About the host
Hosted by Jaya Chakrabarti
My husband and I fell into hosting accidentally when we were trying to buy a home with an annexe that could allow us to take care of our elderly parents. Sadly they got too frail for us to have them live with us so we started hosting to help cover care costs. We managed to keep hold of our first home, and began hosting with it after learning the ropes with our annexe.
Our day jobs are actually running a social enterprise, tackling modern slavery and labour exploitation in supply chains (try saying that really fast!) but following the pandemic, the costs for our offices got too high to keep using them. Enter plan B: we transformed our tiny offices into a huge 6 bedroomed city centre home-from-home. We've poured our hearts and souls into making it as comfy and as eco-friendly as our budget could allow. Duel House is a work in progress but we hope you'll immediately see how unique and characterful she is.

Why they chose this property
Bristol's Old City is filled with charm, and Broad Street itself is often used in filming. Most recently we had Young Sherlock, but we've also had Christine Keeler through to Alex Ryder and Doctor Who gracing our fair and lovely corner of what is left of the Old Quarter. It has a walkscore of 100 (according to their site!) so everything you need is within walking distance.
What makes this property unique
Duel of Bristol House is a stunning Grade II listed 6-bedroom Georgian townhouse in the heart of Bristol’s historic Old City — steps from the Registry Office, Bristol Beacon, and the Hippodrome. Named after the iconic Conor Harrington mural on its façade, this unique home sleeps 12 across five super king rooms (convertible to singles) and one twin bunk room.
Inside, each double bedroom features a dedicated workspace and superfast broadband, ideal for work or relaxation. At the top of the house, a spacious open-plan lounge, kitchen, and dining area comfortably seats 12 — perfect for retreats, reunions, or group getaways. The house includes three toilets and two showers to ensure comfort for all guests.
No on-site parking, but multiple car parks are 3–8 minutes’ walk. Temple Meads Station is 15 minutes away on foot or 8 minutes by taxi.
Duel of Bristol House is family-run — we’re Bristaliens (not born here, but very much at home), and our kids are born-and-bred Bristolians. We’re not a hotel, and definitely not a multinational. When you book with us, your money stays in Bristol — helping to support our family and fund our social enterprise, TISCreport.org, which works to tackle modern slavery and promote corporate transparency.
The house itself blends historic charm with eco-conscious living. Her Georgian exterior — frequently used in film and TV — houses a modern interior warmed by air source heat pumps for a more sustainable stay. You’ll also have access to a private internal courtyard with a covered bike shelter.
You’ll fall asleep and wake to the rhythms of a neighbourhood that doesn’t just whisper history — it lives it. Stay with us, and be part of Bristol’s story.
