About the host
Hosted by Chris & Luisa Pullin
We are Chris & Luisa and we've been regular visitors to Skye since 2014. We first came to Balmaqueen in 2021 and fell in love with its serenity, the only sounds were the waves and the birds. Our home here is our peaceful retreat from the hustle and bustle of life down south. Photographer Graham Niven has helped to show our home at its best.
Why they chose this property
Wherever we’ve been in the world, living on an island is always special, the Isle of Skye especially so. The ‘North End’ – as the Trotternish peninsular is known – has much to offer, with walks from the door, tall basalt cliffs, sea-stacks, bird-life. The Skye Trail passes along the shoreline just below the house.
Away from busy Portree, the only traffic on the road will be the crofter and the postman. Being away from the stores and bars (nearest 6 miles) requires you to plan ahead, so your time here is more about slowing down and appreciating what’s on the doorstep.

What makes this property unique
We designed Ceol na Mara to make the best of its position just above the sea. The weather plays an important part of staying here – one day, the waves crashing on the rocks and the next, sun sparkling off the water. Cooking with that view is such a pleasure! Looking inland, the Trotternish Ridge is right there in front of you, disappearing into the clouds, ever changing.
You have all of this, while cossetted in a lovely warm and quiet space, free to enjoy the peace and the beauty of the island.
