Vacation in paradise

My third visit to Blind Pass. As my friend retired to his unit I needed to find another unit to rent. This met our requirements and was about as close to the beach as possible.

Our happy place

Even though the walk to the gulf is longer than most, crossing the bayou provided manatee and alligator sightings. The canoes and kayaks were fun and easy to check out. The condo was very comfortable and the kitchen was well appointed.

Mostly really good

Property as advertised. Central location to both Sanibel and Captiva. Well appointed condominium in a really cool environmental area. Manatees, alligators, bald eagle, snakes and more. Not so busy beach with beautiful sunsets, but it’s a 10 minute walk or so. Nice pool and tennis courts. No restaurants or shops in reasonable walking distance. No cleaning supplies Greatest disappointment was this unit does not have a porch or lanai of any kind. Otherwise great stay and would consider again.

Great value for the price; beautiful beach, quiet and kid-friendly

This unit is very clean and spacious with all the expected amenities. One note is that the bedroom doors are thin with open slats, so conversation/TV noise from the main living area can be heard easily, especially in the master bedroom (living room TV is right outside the master bedroom door). Not a big deal, but just something to be aware of if you have kids who go to bed before everyone else. The complex is very quiet and well maintained. The pool is big and clean. Obviously the beach is the main attraction, and it is a short 5-minute walk from the condo. Not being right on the beach you won't necessarily want to run back and forth a lot, so just double-check you have everything before you leave the condo. That being said, a trip back to the condo for bathroom breaks or to get the forgotten sand toys is no big deal. The beach is always pretty quiet as there's lots of room to spread out. Early morning walks to the east (left, away from the public beach) were great. Very few people out, but lots of shells and wildlife. Saw dozens of dolphins on multiple occasions, sometimes fairly close to shore, mainly in the early morning (7-9 am). Note that the map in the guest binder did not clearly mark where to access the beach. Here's what you do - go back down to the covered parking, facing the dumpster across the road. Turn right and walk down the road about 100 ft to the last building. There the road ends and becomes a sidewalk with tennis courts on your right. Go past the outdoor shower / wash station to the gate in the chain link fence. Go through the gate, turn left and go over the bridge. After the bridge go straight through the trees to the beach. Note that if you turn right after the bridge you will end up at the public access area, which you probably don't want to do. Blind Pass is very convenient if you plan to spend time at Ding Darling NWR, Tarpon Bay Explorers, CROW, or generally want to avoid all the traffic on the east end of the island. It's still only a short drive to Bailey's to get groceries or ice cream, and you avoid all madness more to the east. Finally, it should be clear from the unit's description, but just so there's no confusion, you cannot see the beach from this unit, or any unit in the complex, I believe. Our first time at Sanibel we stayed at a condo farther east, with a balcony overlooking the beach. That was nice and all, but we actually prefer the much more affordable rates and quiet beaches at Blind Pass.

Disappointed. Not returning.

Arrived at check-in to find cleaning lady and her child just starting to clean. She could not speak English, but through sign language, she allowed us to at least store our perishable food in the fridge. Her young son spoke some English and told me they would be done in about 40 minutes. We had been up and on the road since 3 AM, so this wasn't much of a first impression. I went to car and called office number. They were very good and sent head of maintenance over. He went up to condo, then came down and said she would be done in 10 minutes?? Said he would get others to help??? Ok. We decided to walk down to beach and came back about 40 minutes later. Room appeared to be done, but in spending time there, we noticed some areas were pretty dirty. Cups and dishes put in the cabinets without being washed, toothpaste on the wall in the bathroom, thick layer of dust on the blinds, a used mask left under the couch, food stuck on glass dining table, etc. The linens seemed off too. I ended up relaundering them all. The linens the cleaning person removed from our unit sat on the porch outside our door for 4 days before being picked up. New linens were left in bags outside our door two days before we left. With the humidity, etc. This might explain why the sheets and towels seemed off to us. We attempted to go to the grill area once, but there was a large group there playing Spanish music very loudly. We opted to bake the food in the kitchen instead. I will say that the kitchen was well supplied with cookware, etc, but we had to make sure we washed everything very well before using. We couldn't get out of our parking area one night because someone without a permit parked along the fence behind us. We noticed a lot of cars doing this throughout the week. Didnt seem like there was anyone monitoring. Beach was nice. Pool was nice, but a little crowded the days we thought of using it, so we just went to beach. We've stayed at a few different places over the years. Sadly, this was the worst and the only one I've ever given a negative review of ever. Wont be returning.

Great variety of activities for family!

Perfect location for beautiful beach access. Pool, kayaks and tennis kept us busy. Great access to bike trails too. Friendly staff and met lots of families and new friends for our kids. Will definitely rent here again. Highly recommend for anyone that enjoys nature, beach and a quieter area of Sanibel island.

Sanibel Nature at Your Doorstep

Amazing!! This was by far my family's best trip. The condo is so clean and very tastefully decorated . Very comfortable . The pool was great we spend our mornings there and our afternoons at the beach which is just a short walk from the condo . We saw manatees while going over the bridge that connects the condo to the ocean , my kids are still talking about it ! We went canoeing in the river and saw flying fish . It really was the best vacation ever. We will be down again next year!!

The perfect setting for any type of vacation.

This place is the perfect setting for any type of vacation. Beautiful, semi private beach exploding with shells!! It is an easy and picturesque walk from the condo, where you will pass the tennis courts and walk over a bridge where alligator and pelican sightings are likely. The beach has relatively calm, warm waters making it easy to swim and fish. The pool is quiet and clean for when you need a break from the beach. There are also countless paths for biking, hiking and sightseeing surrounding the complex to easily experience Florida's unique ecosystem. When you are looking to return to the indoors this condo is particularly cozy. My family especially liked that the bedrooms are on opposite sides of the condo so that my parents could go to sleep a little later and not risk waking the baby. There are also two finished bathrooms (one with a Jacuzzi tub) which was necessary for the 6 people we had staying there. The kitchen is fully equipped and the condo also has a full washer/dryer for anyone who has an extended stay or has young kids. The condo is conveniently located by Captivas bridge so it is a short drive to both the main attractions on Captiva and Sanibel, the best of both worlds! In brief, this is the perfect location for a family vacation, quiet girls weekend or a romantic getaway. You will leave feeling refreshed and have seashell souvenirs to last a life time!

Perfect vacation

The unit is updated, spotless and has all the amenities needed for a great stay. The area is amazing, across from ding Darling sanctuary and a short jaunt across a lovely wooden footbridge spanning the lagoon to Bowmans beach. Shells were amazing and my husband caught a shark. Tennis courts and pool in great shape, perfect!

Girl Trip

Paradise as the name implies and a great location on Sanibel for a southwest Florida vacation. It's location has easy access to a gorgeous secluded beach where the shelling was abundant and a spectacular sunset was witnessed. I also enjoyed our visit to the J.N. "Ding" Darling National Wildlife Refuge (great birding) which was close to our rental. Nicely decorated with all the conveniences needed for our stay. Looking forward to a return visit...
