Lovely, peaceful stay

We had a lovely stay at the Zion Chapel. Vicky left us a welcome package including a delicious homemade cake. The dogs had plenty of space and enjoyed exploring the surrounding forest and were welcomed wherever we went. The chapel is ideally located for lots of forest walks. There is a very welcoming pub with a nice garden in the village. And lovely views of the surrounding countryside from the property. We will certainly book again when we need a break from real life.

Hidden gem in the forest of Dean

A unique and lovely place to stay. We had stayed in the forest of Dean previously, only about a mile away, so we were familiar with the area. We had a good idea of where Zion Chapel would be but we were surprised at the delightfully elevated position essentially overlooking Upper Soudley. The chapel itself was and interesting building and full of character. It was comfortable and also very well equipped. It was perfect for the two of us and our two dogs. The outside area was also a nice space to be able to sit and take in the quiet surroundings. Can definitely recommend a walk through Soudley Ponds to Littledean and the Bespoke Brewing taproom.

Pure peace in Zion Chapel

My son (12yrs old), my Jack Russell and me all had the most wonderful time staying at Zion Chapel. So spacious, yet warm and cosy, so comfortable and peaceful with everything we needed in the chapel. Stepping outside directly into the stunning forest to find easy trails to walk for hours was a blessing. The dog was in heaven! We felt totally emotionally reset and recharged to head back to the city after our 4 days there. Simply magical. We will definitely be back! Thank you!

Amazing place to chill out

What an amazing place to relax and chill. Read a book in front of the fire, go for walks in the forest which are right outside the door. The house has everything you need. There is a local pub walking distance (no food, friendly locals). Lovely open space vibe in the chapel. Dog loved it too. The host Vicky was great too. If there was a spa pool or a bath that would have been perfect. But overall it was great.

Magical Hideaway

What a gem! We knew we were getting something special from the photos, but the attention to detail at Zion is exceptional - such wonderful restoration and taste. The welcome pack and huge basket of logs was so generous - above and beyond our expectations. Amazing walks from the door and such a cosy fireplace to return to meant that we didn’t use the car - and we didn’t even switch the TV on. Loved cooking in the well-equipped kitchen, great shower and toiletries, very comfy bed and nice outside space too which our terrier enjoyed. We are even converts to the futon. Looking forward to future visits.

Homely and peaceful haven in the forest

The chapel has been beautifully restored with real care and attention, and we felt at home the moment we arrived. The interior strikes a perfect balance between modern and cosy, with a wonderful log burner and Aga that made it especially inviting on the grey, wet days when we were more than happy to stay in and relax. Despite spending time indoors, it never felt at all claustrophobic — the space is generous and the large windows flood the building with natural light. Everything we needed was thoughtfully provided, along with some very welcome extras, including a delicious homemade cake. One of the highlights was being able to step straight outside and begin walking in the Forest of Dean. Although the accommodation is dog-friendly, it was impeccably clean with no trace of previous four-legged guests. The hosts were friendly and helpful throughout our stay. We had a truly lovely week and would happily return at any time of year.

Amazing accommodation with a surprisingly peaceful atmosphere and absolute solitude. The only sounds from outside were birds singing and the occasional pheasant. Comforts were everywhere: from a very comfortable bed, sofas and cushions to sink into around a huge wood burner with a massive pile of wood and clear instructions for using it, a great sound system for when we wanted music, a luxurious kitchen with an Aga plus all the modern facilities, wonderful little touches in the decor and restoration of the chapel including many original features lovingly preserved, and some treats to eat and drink while we sat outside in privacy or upstairs on the mezzanine enjoying wonderful views and a great pair of binoculars. Our host was just the right level of great communication and hospitality, and leaving us in privacy to enjoy the run of the place all to ourselves. Lots of beautiful walks close by, and plenty of places to visit within a walk or short drive. Parking was easy and convenient. Clean, comfortable, beautiful and atmospheric; we will look to return to enjoy this wonderful place again.

Beautiful Hideaway

Zion Chapel is a wonderful place to relax and unwind in a beautiful location on the edge of the forest. Everything you could need is provided and we were welcomed with a lovely food hamper which included bacon, eggs, croissants, prosecco and a home-baked chocolate cake. There were also treats for the dog and dog bowls, beds and towels. The chapel has been beautifully restored and is cosy and welcoming with lovely lighting and loads of seating. The bed is super-comfy and there is a fabulous mezzanine level that looks over the village and forest. We loved the sound system that took full advantage of the high ceilings. We spent most of our time on the front patio enjoying the beautiful views and watching the buzzards overhead. You are surrounded by wildlife and we were lucky to see deer in the orchard on several occasions plus foxes, bats and the free-roaming sheep. There are so many beautiful walks right from the door and our measure of a great holiday is that we only used the car twice in nine days! The Heritage Centre has a lovely cafe and the White Horse pub is really friendly and welcoming, both in the village. We had the most amazing time and are looking forward to returning to this beautiful chapel. Thank you Vicky.

Fantastic stay

We had a fantastic stay at the zion chapel. The chapel had everything and more to make a lovely comfortable stay. The food hamper and gorgeous chocolate cake was a lovely surprise. The dogs were not forgotten either and loved their treat left for them. We will definitely be returning, hopefully soon.
