About this property
1 Bed in Walford (oc-t31869)
Boasting a beautiful outlook, walks from the doorstep, and the cosiest interiors to come home to each evening, this Wye Valley cottage, located in Walford just 3 miles from Ross-on-Wye, provides an endearing, inviting base for romantic getaways in enviable Herefordshire. Hiking, biking, adventures on the River Wye, and trips to local villages are on offer when you stay amidst this fabulous National Landscape. You’ve got an uninterrupted view of the medieval Goodrich Castle (1 mile), an English Heritage destination that’s worth exploring, with far-reaching views from its turrets and a dark, atmospheric dungeon. From high up at that vantage point, gaze out and admire the England-Wales border to the west. Plan a trip to Monmouth (7.5 miles) and embark on a long walk along the delightful River Monnow to capture the very best of the beautiful border scenery. To the south, discover the marvellous Forest of Dean, a sprawling wild forest filled with towering trees, mystical woodlands, and tumbling waterways, which is ripe for exploring on foot or by bike.
Venture up the hill and into this provincial stone cottage, a place that’s been updated to offer plenty of comfort yet kept cosy and traditional in its styling. On the ground floor, a small sitting room, dining area and kitchen can be enjoyed on slow mornings and restful evenings. A wood burner keeps things warm and toasty, and a dining table set for two sits beneath a restored picture window which frames a view of Goodrich Castle. The bright kitchen has up to date features with a walk-in larder that you can fill with locally sourced goodies, keeping your food cool and fresh. Moving upstairs, discover a second sitting room, also furnished with comfortable seating and a wood burner. You may notice that this property doesn’t have a TV, allowing you to look forward to evenings filled with great conversation, traditional card and board games, or just losing yourself in a book. For your convenience, superfast broadband is available throughout. When night falls, the double bedroom calls your name, with an antique wooden bed and soft fresh linens to sink into. Completing this floor is a delightful bathroom where you can soak while enjoying the pretty views.
Regularly visited by deer, birds and all kinds of other wildlife, the garden is a haven of relaxation when the sun shines. There’s a flat patio space that’s furnished, allowing you to sit and sip a drink come morning, afternoon, or admire the sunset in the evenings. Alongside, the cottage has its own private gardens and woodland, with footpaths leading further afield, or join a circular Wye Valley Walk at the foot of the property grounds. Around fifty metres away from the cottage, private parking for two cars is located.
