About this property
Spacious luxury thatched cottage with private hot tub on the edge of Exmoor
Staying at Pilgrim Corner means slowing down and feeling comfortable from the moment you arrive. This spacious, thatched cottage feels elegant and calm, with thick walls and a thoughtful layout that works well for families, small-group celebrations, or relaxed breaks with friends. There is a natural sense of privacy and warmth that makes it easy to settle in and feel at home.
The living spaces are generous and comfortable, with room to relax together at the end of the day. A wood-burning stove adds to the atmosphere during cooler months, making the cottage especially inviting for autumn and winter stays. The house feels peaceful and quiet, even when fully occupied.
The kitchen is well equipped for real cooking, whether you’re preparing simple meals or something more special, and works just as well for longer stays as it does for short breaks. Bedrooms are comfortable and well proportioned, designed for a good night’s sleep, and the solid construction of the cottage helps keep everything calm and settled.
Outside, Pilgrim Corner benefits from a large private garden, giving plenty of space for children, dogs, and outdoor relaxation. The private hot tub is a favourite with guests and is particularly welcome after a day exploring Exmoor National Park or the nearby coast. It’s a place to unwind rather than entertain, fitting naturally with the relaxed feel of the property.
The cottage is dog friendly and suits four-legged guests just as well as people, with space inside and out and easy access to walks in the surrounding area. We have been welcoming visitors to Pilgrim Corner since 2014 and take pride in offering a place that feels genuinely cared for, comfortable, and welcoming — somewhere you can arrive, unpack, and simply enjoy your stay.
About the area
Pilgrim Corner sits on the edge of Exmoor National Park, well placed for exploring both the moorland landscape and the Somerset coast. It is located in a quiet part of Minehead known as Higher Town, a designated conservation area with a timeless, village-like feel. From here, Minehead’s sandy beach and friendly high street are around ten minutes away.
Exmoor itself is known for its walking, scenery, and historic villages rather than nightlife, making it ideal for guests looking for a slower-paced break. The location works equally well for active days out and for simply enjoying the peace and character of the surrounding area.
Exmoor offers miles of open countryside, coastal paths, and quiet lanes, while nearby picturesque villages provide traditional pubs, local shops, and places to eat. The coast is within easy reach for beach walks and seaside days, and the surrounding area works equally well for active breaks or simply enjoying the views and fresh air.
Guests often comment on how convenient the location feels — close enough to explore widely, but peaceful enough to properly switch off at the end of the day.

Your host
With a degree in history, a passion for property and interiors, and a deep love of Exmoor, buying the Grade II listed cottage The Oval in Dunster as a weekend bolthole felt like a natural step. In 2008, the purchase was made and a careful, loving restoration began. I was quickly seduced by the thrill of restoring — and in some cases rescuing — these beautiful old buildings, each steeped in history and character. Over time, this grew into Exmoor Character Cottages, a collection of four much-loved holiday homes. Sharing them with appreciative guests from across the UK and around the world continues to be a real joy.
Why they chose this property
Pilgrim Corner was purchased for its history, character and setting. Although charming from the outside, it is deceptively spacious inside — elegant, light-filled and with a real sense of the generations who have lived there. Tucked away in the oldest part of Minehead, the cottage offered the chance to restore and care for a small piece of local heritage, while enjoying close access to the coast, Exmoor and the town itself. It felt like a place others would enjoy as much as I did — peaceful, atmospheric and full of history.
What makes this property unique
Pilgrim Corner offers the rare combination of historic character and modern comfort. The cottage is Grade II listed and full of original features, yet carefully restored and equipped to make stays easy and relaxing. The house sits in a peaceful, elevated part of Minehead while still being within easy walking distance of the town, harbour and beach, as well as the coastal paths and Exmoor beyond.
With over 15 years’ experience of restoring and welcoming guests to historic properties in the area, guests also benefit from thoughtful touches, a private hot tub, and the reassurance of dealing directly with an owner who knows the cottage — and the local area — extremely well.
