Family and dog friendly spacious 4 bedroom self catering holiday cottage situated in a quiet location in Porlock, Exmoor National Park has breathtaking sea views Exmoor Holidays offers the perfect peaceful retreat to relax, unwind and explore the stunning Exmoor coastline and countryside by car, bicycle, horse, landrover safari, or on foot. Numerous footpaths including the South West Coast Path and Coleridge Way are all accessible directly from our doorstep.
For those wanting to get away from it all our large south facing garden with sheltered patio and sun terrace captures the sun from dawn through to dusk and is a haven of peace and tranquillity where one can quietly sit and listen to birdsong whilst the sun goes down.
Situated in a peaceful lane in the traditional Exmoor village of Porlock but only a couple of minutes walk from the historic Ship Inn and traditional Porlock village centre. Because the property is built on a hillside most of the accommodation is on the first floor, accessed via a flight of stairs. Bedroom 4 is on the ground floor with its own kitchen & lounge diner for 2, perfect for friends/families who wish for their own space or who require ground floor accommodation. We are very popular as a generation vacation where the grandparents or older children sleep in the downstairs where they have their own ground floor kitchen, bathroom and lounge diner so they have a bit of their own space should they wish for it whilst the younger children and parents sleep in the 3 bedrooms upstairs.
Also popular for groups of extended family and friends who are on a walking, mountain biking or riding holiday, or just seeking to escape and relax in beautiful Exmoor countryside and require 4 bedroom accommodation.

Plenty of room for the family and fury friends to get together in this well and comfortably provisioned holiday home in the lovely village of Porlock. Ideally placed for exploration of surrounding area and beautiful walks from the door. Also a great selection of pubs within close walking distance.
Lovely house in a lovely village. Cant recommend highly enough.

Many thanks for taking the time to review. We are pleased you liked our house and that you enjoyed your stay. We hope you will return to stay another time.
Superb location, just right for exploring the area, very close to all amenities including welcoming pubs serving good food, try the Ship, literally next door to the property, good food and beer, but if you don’t feel like going out to dine this property has an excellent outside dining area with bbq and very comfy garden chairs and table. Within walking distance of the Weir or Beach but the better option is a short drive to the National Trust car park at Bossington then walk to Hurlstone Point the views are spectacular. As I said this is a fantastic place for a, in our case, family holiday, we all returned home relaxed and happy. Thanks to the owners for letting us stay

Thank you Margaret for taking the time to review our Exmoor home from hom. We are delighted you enjoyed your stay, felt relaxed and rested and took advantage of the beautiful walks and good food available nearby.
We stayed here as a family of 8 adults (and 1 small dog)in August and it was our first getaway since lockdown for Covid. As well as being spotlessly clean, the house was really spacious with several different places to relax without all being on top of each other. At the same time it was exceedingly well equipped, seating 8 around the main table inside or the patio outside and with plenty of crockery, glasses and kitchen equipment. We all enjoy cooking and it was unusual in a holiday rental to have access to the right number of pans, knives or chopping boards. There was even spare cupboard space for our own food.
For part of the week we had a heatwave and an unexpected bonus for us was that the downstairs bedroom was beautifully cool, as it’s built on a hill so that all the main rooms are upstairs but they are also at ground level at the back.
There was enough in Porlock and the surrounding area to keep us busy but it was also nice to sit and relax in this comfortable house and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a getaway for a group.

It was a joy to stay here. The property is lovely and clearly well looked after and in a lovely location too. The village itself was also really lovely with great walks and a nice park which both the younger and older children enjoyed. Jacquie was great to communicate with and always prompt and helpful in her emails. We’d love to visit again if we get chance

Great property and Location, very clean and just as described, the pictures shown do not do it justice.
The village of Porlock is lovely with some nice shops, a well stocked Spar shop, chip shop, Chinese and three pubs. The top ship and the Castle serve lovely food.
There is a lovely woodland walk or coastal path walk to Porlock weir where you will find another nice pub The bottom ship.
The house has everything you need and a lovely well kept garden. Would not hesitate to go back to this property, it’s lovely.
This was our second stay in this spacious house. Wonderful sea view from upstairs living room. Even a pair of binoculars provided.
Plenty of activities nearby. Family enjoyed paddle boarding at Porlock Weir and would recommend Dunster Beach.
The house is well equipped, comfortable beds and sofas for relaxing.
Great property in a super location with hot and sunny weather. Property catered well for our 3 generation family holiday. House has interesting multiple level layout, has everything you need inside and out and views to the coast. Older guests must be comfortable with steps and stairs to enjoy the whole property. Located a few doors from a local pub/Inn offering good food and close to a bustling village catering for most needs. 30 min walk to Porlock Weir and coast make it a good location for dog walkers. Well placed to explore Exmoor. A great week for all the family...thank you very much for use of the property and excellent communication re questions asked.

Great, well equipped property in an ideal location, close to local pubs, restaurants and minimarkets and within easy drive to main Exmoor tourist spots. Excellent local walks nearby. Enclosed garden is ideal for dogs. Very helpful and responsive owner. Thoroughly recommend, particularly for larger multi-generational groups who would benefit from combining Maxwelton and Bracken.

About the host
Hosted by Jacquie Haylett
The property was original purchased in the 1980s by my mother, who resided in the upstairs and rented out the ground floor as a holiday apartment.
Having been brought up on Exmoor I love to return to stay in the house with my family as often as time allows, we therefore love the house not only as a holiday cottage but also see it as our own home from home.
Although we no longer live on Exmoor I still consider it to be my home. I was brought up in the nearby village of Wootton Courtenay, went to primary school in Timberscombe and then Minehead and Porlock village hall was where I went to local disco's in my teenage years! My mother was brought up in Brushford near Dulverton, where her father was the parish priest, and my father was brought up in Exford where his father was the vicar, so l consider myself to be very much an Exmoor girl at heart.
Why they chose this property
Spacious comfortable accommodation. Breathtaking sea views. Ideally situated in a peaceful but central location in the picturesque village of Porlock. Perfect base for exploring Exmoor National Park, with beautiful coast and countryside walks from our doorstep. Traditional thatched country pub close by.
What makes this property unique
The views from the upstairs of our accommodation across Porlock Bay are magnificent. In clear weather you can view right across the sea to Wales, and often watch hang gliders from the lounge window who take off from Hurlstone Point.
The charming traditional village of Porlock is very friendly with a strong community spirit and hosts many events to suit all ages throughout the year. There a historic traditional thatched country pub just a minutes walk from our cottage, and the shops, cafes, and local village amenities are conveniently located just a short walk away.
Dogs are welcome in many establishments and there are numerous walks directly from our doorstep. There is a good selection of traditional English pubs, restaurants and shops close by. Exmoor is home to a wide variety of wildlife including red deer and Exmoor ponies.
Lots of outdoor activities close by including kayaking; cycling/mountain bikes, horse riding; fishing, coasteering, etc, but equally you can just relax and unwind in peace and tranquility. The beautiful scenery inspires artistic creativity. Ideal for exploring the numerous woodland, moorland and coastal walks that are all accessible from our doorstep.
