We enjoyed everything about the house and the location was perfect for visiting volcano national Park. Choices of restaurants and grocery stores is limited. Would’ve liked to known that we were living above somebody. That was not made clear and I learned it from the reviews. House has lovely scenery, only one TV and no cable. We were busy sightseeing most of the days and so it was not a big problem.
So comfortable! Easy to find, easy access, so much room and such a tropical retreat to return to during our family exploration of the Volcano National Park. The Park needs more than one day to explore and staying here gave us the opportunity to get up at dawn to walk the Kīlauea Iki trail without the crowds, get back for a cooked breakfast before moving on.
Large and comfortable spot. Great location to visit the park. The setting in the forest is really cool we even saw wild boar in the yard. Some noise from the owner downstairs is the only negative. The property manager is very responsive and professional.

Wonderful location, musty house, terrible smell
Positives: --The location is perfect for anyone visiting Volcanoes National Park. --The deck is lovely. The grill is great and very clean.--The kitchen is old and there is no dishwasher but it is otherwise very well-equipped.Negatives:--The house is musty and smells absolutely terrible. There are dehumidifiers in every room. --The carpet is old and stained.--The furniture and bedding is very old. The blankets were musty.--There is a washer and a dryer in the unit but they are secured with locks. There is a laundromat in town but it is not nice and quite inconvenient.--Not the worst place but the musty, moldy smell is overpowering.

Rustic and outdated
Setting was beautiful. Great location if you want to be close to the entrance of volcano national park. The yard and the deck were great. Beds and bathrooms needed updating
Very well maintained property. A lot of room. Felt like we are in the jungle. Allows us to visit the Volcano National Park with a lot of flexbility by staying so close.
Love the upstairs covered balcony, and thefloor layout. I was worried about the lack of a/c, but it really cools off at night. Nightime birds can be a loud so bring earplugs if an issue. Great communication with manager. Highly recommend
This house is very comfortable and is surrounded with trees and plants. It’s like living in the jungle! The location is so peaceful and beautiful and very close to the volcano national park.
We enjoyed the large, covered deck and fire pit in the chilly mornings as we started the day. The indoor propane fireplace was also very cozy.
This is a great place to stay and perfect for 6 people.
We were only there from late afternoon to early the next morning but it was perfect for our group. We, of course were up there to see the lava flow. The house is very close to the park. It is tucked in the forest and comfortable - classic Volcano yard...Reasonably priced. It was perfect for what we needed.
The property was a 5 minute drive to the Volcano National Park front gate and a 3 minute drive to nearby restaurants and general store. So, the location was perfect for what we were in the area for.
The house itself was clean and had everything we needed in terms of kitchenware, blankets and things to make our stay comfortable. We loved the huge lanai on the rainy nights with it's firepit that we used to gather round and recount our day's adventures. The indoor fireplace also warmed the main room up nicely.
We would definitely stay here again.
Our family of 4 (kids age 8 and 11) has been visiting a bunch of national parks lately, and this location was at least as convenient as any of the ‘in-the-park’ lodges we’ve stayed at, but way nicer. It’s less than 5 minutes from the park entrance/visitor’s center.
It felt very private, like we were alone in the middle of the rainforest. We loved relaxing on the covered balcony next to the fire pit while the rain came down around us. There was more than enough room for the 4 of us (6 adults would be comfortable).
The host was very responsive, and checking out was a piece of cake. We would absolutely stay here again.
Our extended family of 6 stayed here for 2 nights to explore the volcanoes national park. It was 3 mins away and very convenient to make multiple trips to the park.
The house itself was comfortable and well appointed. It is a bit dated and could use some refreshing, but it was true to the pictures and we knew that going in.
The fireplace and outdoor fire pit was lovely. Kitchen was well stocked. Communication with the host was excellent. Overall, very satisfied and perfect place to stay for exploring the region.

Okay but not great
Unit is close to the Volcano park, so the location is great, but details need attention and the mattresses are too hard and need to be replaced. Also some misc. items did not work, like the fire pit and the gas heater in the living room, both of which we could have used. Also make note of the fact that there's no dishwasher .
We did not stay there because Danielle Barro double-booked the property even though I reserved it and paid for it 13 months in advance. I had communicated with her the week of our stay. I called after 4 PM the day of checkin and she hesitated and said “this hardly ever happens” and then tried to blame it on me because I hadn’t booked directly with her. I told her I had the confirmation fromVRBO but she said she has properties listed on multiple sites. I said I had just flown 5000 miles and asked her where our group of five people were supposed to stay. Danielle offered to try to find a place but it wouldn’t be in Volcano and I told here I didn’t trust anything she would do. After many calls, we found a place that was more than double what we paid for the VRBO. So, I do not plan to trust the VRBO bookings
We visit the Big Island every year and stay in Kona. We usually make a trip or sometimes two to Volcanoes NP and decided this year we just wanted to stay there for a few days and avoid the long drive! And we are glad we did.
It is a different climate, especially in December being near 4,500ft elevation. It rained most of the time we were there (that's why there is a rain forest!! ;))and it never got above 60 degrees, but we loved it and loved the house.
The interior of the house was open and very warm with wood interior and cathedral ceilings. It was very comfortable for our family. The unit it basically the second floor of the house and the first floor was occupied but we hardly knew it.
We enjoyed sitting inside and seeing the rain come down. The house is in the forest and you can't see any other houses. But you can see the beautiful vegetation and Hawaiian flowers growing wild around the house.
But even better than the house itself is the huge bright covered deck, which we loved. We spent much of our time in the house sitting on the deck next to the firepit, listening to all of the bird sounds.(And we had no bugs!!) .
The house was only a few minutes drive to the National Park and the village of Volcano. And even though it rained, we still did our hiking (we're from Seattle so we don't really notice it). Finally, Danielle is very easy to work with and friendly.
We plan on staying again on our next trip.
Everything was fantastic. We really enjoyed the deck and fire table. The little dog Lizzie was a great playmate of our Granddaughter. The bedrooms were spacious as was the main room and kitchen. Our best time was when it rained at night and we sat out under the clear roof with the fire table going. We will be back.
Beautiful location, with Bob the host meeting us and introducing the accommodation. An oasis in the rain forest, perfect for what we were looking for. Everything you need is provided, and the hot tub topped it, listening to the coqui frogs! Recommended, thank you Bob!
