St Just in Roseland is famous for its 13th century picturesque church, and due to its sub-tropical climate it offers one of the prettiest churchyards in England, set on a hill overlooking the church and creek. Wander along the paths past rhododendrons, camellias, bamboos, giant sub-tropical shrubs and small streams The property is a few minutes’ walk from the water’s edge, and the village also has a local shop where you can buy local produce, a tearoom/café as well as a pub.
You can walk beside the estuary to St Mawes Castle and the historic fishing village of St Mawes, which is popular with visitors with a selection of boutique shops, restaurants, pubs and cafés around the harbour. From the harbour you can hire your own boat or take a pleasure cruise to Mylor or Flushing, or catch the passenger ferry to Falmouth. The King Harry ferry will take you to Falmouth and Truro, passing Trelissick National Trust House and Gardens.
If you prefer you can drive around this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty visiting the round houses at Veryan, the quaint village of Portscatho, Portloe and Caerhays Castle and Gardens. Nearby beaches include Carne and Pendower, probably the best beaches in the Roseland. There is so much for everyone, including wonderful walks along the coast, historical landmarks to visit, outstanding beaches and wonderful places to eat along the estuary, where children will love catching crabs in the estuary. At the end of a busy day, head home and relax in the garden or on the comfy sofa to plan your next trip.
