About this property
Idyllic retreat with log burner near Danby Castle
Summary:
The perfect country retreat, this beautifully appointed, fresh cottage combines comfortable modern design with an idyllic location, making for the perfect family break or group get together. Neighbouring a traditional coaching inn and surrounded by the incredible North York Moors, your whole family can combine exploring and relaxing in ample space with a bonus games room, ensuite, washing and drying facilities, bike storage and wonderful outside space for al fresco dining and plentiful parking.
The Space:
This is a spectacular place in which to stay, combining all the modern comforts to make for an exceptionally relaxing break. Whether you're taking in the breathtaking natural landscapes that surround Hillsover Cottage on foot, on a bike, by visiting the coast, or thanks to a wedding at Danby Castle (a three-minute taxi ride or 25 minute walk), it makes a wonderful home from home.
Located less than a mile away from the North York Moors Visitor Centre and two miles from the Yorkshire Cycle Hub, the cottage is ideally located. The pretty fishing villages of Yorkshire's heritage coast are less than 20 minutes away by car and a railway station in adjoining Danby offers visitors easy access to the moorland villages along the Esk Valley and the busy seaside town of Whitby.
With ample living space spread across a living room, large kitchen diner, utility, office and a games room to boot, the cottage is perfect for groups and will comfortably accommodate your whole party. The addition of two ensuites, as well as the family bathroom and the downstairs WC means you've all the room you need to get ready in the morning and relax in the evening too. Whether you're a multi-generational family or a group of friends, Hillsover Cottage will feel plenty big enough for all eight of you plus 1 well-behaved dog.
The lounge is perfect for winter retreats, with the games and log burner on offer, as well as relaxing after a sunny day's walking. In winter, fire lighters, logs and kindling are provided to get you started, and there are three sofas for lounging, setting you up for cosy nights in with the whole family.
The kitchen dining space is ample, with seating for the whole group, making it the perfect place to share a celebratory meal with loved ones. The island bar includes four stools, so everyone can gather while making a special breakfast (perhaps with a bucks fizz for a wedding morning!). The dishwasher means easy clean ups and the integrated fridge freezer provide plenty of space for your food, drinks and holiday snacks! There's ample glassware and crockery, so that you can celebrate any occasion. There are also two ovens, meaning you can really cook up a storm for the whole family. The patio doors make for a beautifully light and bright room.
Off the kitchen are the utility room and downstairs WC. The utility, with it's own access through the back door, not only makes a great space (including a sink) for dealing with any muddy gear resulting from exploring the moors, but also houses the washing machine and dryer, meaning you can head home without laundry in tow!
And there's more… a games room! With a sofa, bean bag and multi games table (football, air hockey, table tennis), it means everyone will be entertained at Hillsover Cottage even on rainy days. Select from the books and board games in there, too; perfect for enjoying by the fire!
The study houses a designated office space with a writing table, chair and lamp. Combined with fast broadband, it means you can enjoy a hassle-free space to work when you need to, too.
Upstairs, the four plush bedrooms are made up of two kings with ensuites, a double and a twin room. There is a family bathroom and not one but two ensuites. The bed linens are all 100% cotton and a 300 thread count, making sinking into the bed after a busy day on the Moors all the more lovely.
Bedroom one makes for a particularly special stay. It is the largest, and includes plenty of hanging space and storage for you to settle in and unpack as well as bean bag seating and a coffee table, so that you have your own space to relax too. The roof windows add to the light and airy feel that your holiday home enjoys, despite its traditional feel.
The master ensuite is first-class: it is large and airy, with a large bath and shower, standing mirror plus two sinks and two towel rails. It makes for a superior holiday experience or the most gorgeous place in which to get wedding-ready!
In the second king room you will also enjoy an ensuite. There's more storage with a full wardrobe and chest of drawers, so plenty of room for a longer stay and for anything you need for wedding prep, should that be the reason for your visit.
The third bedroom is a double. You can take in views out of the front of the house and onto the green beyond. There's plenty of wardrobe space here too.
Bedroom four is a twin, with two single beds. It provides flexible accommodation so that your group will fit comfortably.
The family bathroom is just across the hall. You'll enjoy room for both showers and relaxing baths as well as the luxury towels that are provided.
Outside, the lovely large patio, lawned garden and ample parking make for more room to share with family, enjoying the fresh air and room to play. There are idyllic views over the moorland. The addition of a bike rack as part of your outside space means its perfect for cyclists exploring the Moors too.
The cottage neighbours The Fox & Hounds Inn, a high quality traditional country pub with rooms and a well-reviewed food offering, meaning you can stay close to other members of your group staying at the pub and dine in comfort just a short stumble away for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The bar has an open fire and a beautiful oak-beamed ceiling. As well as freshly prepared food, which can be enjoyed in the bar, restaurant, games room or outside, the pub has an excellent range of cask ales and wines.
