Treat yourself to a stay in one of the Scottish Highland's most remarkable locations. Doune, Knoydart, is a tiny community of only five houses, accessible only by sea or on foot. There is no traffic apart from the odd boat passing through the Sound of Sleat.
Your properties sit five metres from the shore, looking west across the sea toward the Isle of Skye and the Cuillin Ridge. You'll have exclusive use of our two stone buildings that house five bedrooms, fully equiped kitchen, dining room and lounge. There is also a beautiful stone terrace, pizza oven and outdoor seating. We are entirely off grid, producing our own power with a combination of hydro and solar, with extensive battery storage. All rooms have central heating to complement the incredible view!
Knoydart is a remarkable peninsula. It is part of Scotland's mainland, but is not connected to the road network, so everything arrives by boat. Doune is five miles west of the hustle and bustle of the main village of Inverie, so you have complete peace and tranquility and your own space without any interruptions. However, a visit to the village with its famous Old Forge pub, tearoom and shop is only a beautiful walk, minibus or boat ride away.
There is lots to do during your stay. Knoydart is home to three Munros (Scottish mountains over 3000' in height), and with Gripper we can access four more. There are many other shorter, easier and lower level walks available. You'll have exclusive use of paddle boards and kayaks and ebike hire is available in Inverie, Beyond that you can swim, snorkel or go fishing; or simply put your feet up and relax, soaking in the spectacular views and maybe even spotting an otter in the bay outside your room.
During your stay you'll have the opportunity to charter our crewed boat, Gripper II, for exploring Loch Nevis and Loch Hourn, or even venture to Skye or the Small Isles. You can hope to see whales, dolphins, eagles, otters and countless other wildlife. Gripper II can also be used for sea access to some of the most incredible walking and hiking routes that can't be reached any other way.
Your stay will be typically be self catered. However, we can arrange a fully catered stay for you or provide individual meals to suit your needs. A supply of home made frozen meals, made using home grown and locally sourced ingredients, is also available to buy along with some food cupboard staples should you find yourself short.
Logistics here are an important consideration. We don't have ready access to shops or other amenities, so you need to bring your own supplies. There are supermarkets and other shops as you drive through Fort William en route to Mallaig. The small shop in Inverie has an excellent range of local venison products which are a real treat. The only way to get you and your luggage here for your stay is on Gripper II. We'll meet you in Mallaig at a pre arranged time and your return boat trip is included in the price of your stay. Free parking is available in Mallaig for the duration of your stay.
We really look forward to welcoming you. It's unlikely that you'll have experienced anything like Doune before, but we know that you won't be disappointed and will leave with tales of wonder to tell your family, friends and colleagues.

About the host
Hosted by Andrew Brodie
We’re based on the west coast of Scotland and have always loved wild, remote places like Knoydart. When we’re not working, you’ll usually find us out walking in the hills, on the water, or simply enjoying the pace of life here.
We genuinely enjoy hosting and sharing this special corner of the Highlands with our guests. We have operated as a hotel for many years, however changes to the holiday market has lured us into providing spectacular, luxury self catering accommodation instead.
It means a lot to us that people feel relaxed, welcome, and at home from the moment they arrive. We’re always happy to help with tips or local knowledge, but we also understand the joy of switching off and having your own space to unwind.
Why they chose this property
We chose Doune on the Knoydart peninsula for its rare combination of seclusion and natural beauty. Surrounded by dramatic mountains and sea lochs, and accessible only by boat or on foot, it offers an escape from the pace of everyday life. At the same time, its proximity by boat to Mallaig makes it surprisingly convenient to reach.
What makes this property unique
'Unique' hardly does justice to what we offer here at Doune, Knoydart. Our property offers true remoteness and spacious, luxurious comfort. Set on the Knoydart peninsula, it is accessible only by boat (boat transfer included) or on foot via a 3 day hike, giving guests a genuine escape into one of Scotland’s most unspoilt landscapes. As a large self-catering property, we are ideal for families or groups, with plenty of space to relax together while still enjoying privacy. The views of the surrounding mountains and sea are ever-changing, and along with the sense of peace and isolation, these make any stay here a memorable and unique experience.
