About this property

Hot Tub Cottage Near Bury St Edmunds | Log Burner | Dog-Friendly | Sleeps 5

Wake to the medieval church spire from one bedroom and the thatched village rooftops from the other. A character Suffolk cottage on the historic main square of Woolpit, with a private hot tub, fire pit, and wood burner.
Sleeps 5 across two bedrooms — both superkings, both split to twins on request. Around 10 minutes by car to Bury St Edmunds, 20 minutes to Lavenham, under an hour to the Suffolk coast.

THE COTTAGE

Downstairs, the open living and dining space is split by exposed vertical beams, with original features throughout and the lounge centred on a wood burner — the obvious place to land at the end of the day. The kitchen runs to oven, hob, microwave, dishwasher, espresso machine, and toaster — everything you need to cook properly, rather than getting by. A downstairs WC sits just inside the back door, so wet feet and muddy boots stay out of the main house.
Upstairs, the bathroom has both a full bath and a separate shower — useful when more than two of you are getting ready at once. 500 Mbps fibre Wi-Fi throughout and a dedicated workspace for two.

THE BEDROOMS

The first bedroom has a superking bed plus a pull-out trundle, sleeping up to three — well-suited to a family with a child or three friends sharing. St Mary's church spire is visible from the bed.

The second has a superking with views over the garden and the thatched rooftops of the village. Both beds convert to twin singles on request.

THE GARDEN

Outside is where Church View earns its keep. The enclosed private garden centres on a hot tub kept heated and ready 24 hours a day throughout your stay, with a fire pit and BBQ alongside and outdoor seating set up for long evenings. Soak after a day exploring Bury St Edmunds, light the fire pit as the sun drops, or sit out with a glass of wine while the kids roast marshmallows.

THE LOCATION

Step out the front door and you're on Woolpit's historic main square — pub, tearoom, bakery and the medieval church of St Mary's all within a few minutes' walk. Bury St Edmunds is around 15 minutes by car for the Abbey Gardens, the cathedral, and the restaurants.
Lavenham — the most-photographed medieval village in England — is 20 minutes away. Sutton Hoo, Constable Country, and the Suffolk coast (Aldeburgh, Southwold, Walberswick) are all within an hour.

PARKING & ACCESS

Guests have full and exclusive use of the entire cottage and its enclosed garden. Free, secure parking is available at the church car park two doors down or on the street in front of the cottage.

About the host

Host profile image
Hi, I'm Jake — based in York. My day job is in the NHS, so hosting is the side of my life where I get to slow down and look after people in a different way.
I like good food, long walks, slow Sundays, and the kind of stay where everything just works without you having to think about it. That's what I aim for here: a place that feels properly looked after, with the small details sorted so you can switch off.
I'm responsive without hovering — here if you need me, out of the way if you don't. If anything comes up before, during, or after your stay, just message. I'd rather you ask than wonder.

Why they chose this property

Woolpit is one of those Suffolk villages that quietly rewards anyone willing to slow down. There's a beautiful green, a striking medieval church, good local pubs within walking distance, and a sense that not much has changed for a long time — in the best way.
What I love most is how easy it is to do nothing here, and how easy it is to do plenty. Bury St Edmunds is twenty minutes away for markets, the abbey gardens, and properly good food. The Suffolk coast — Aldeburgh, Southwold, Dunwich — is around an hour. Closer in, there are footpaths in every direction, tucked-away churches, and lanes that feel a century out of step with everywhere else.
It's the sort of place where guests arrive a bit wound up and leave noticeably softer. That's the bit I enjoy most.

What makes this property unique

Church View Cottage is a properly old Suffolk cottage — exposed original beams, antique features throughout, and a sense of character you simply can't build new. It sits looking straight out at one of the prettiest medieval churches in the region, with a private hot tub tucked into a corner of the garden, surrounded by flowers.
What the photos don't quite catch is how quiet it gets here. Nights are deep and peaceful
