Region: Cornwall’s visitors are constantly tempted back to the beautiful coastline, tiny fishing villages, hidden coves and the world-class surfing. Whatever the reason, Cornwall has long cemented its place as one of Britain’s premier holiday destinations.

Town: Just outside Redruth on the road towards Falmouth, Lanner was once part of Cornwall’s mining epicentre. Today, the village is welcoming and friendly, with a number of convenience stores, a well-stocked petrol station, a bakery selling excellent Cornish pasties, a village hall and several good pubs, including the Coppice public house and the Fox and Hounds, both of which serve traditional pub fare. You'll also find a garden centre that serves breakfast and lunch for hungry visitors. Numerous cycling trails can be found in Lanner, along with Carn Marth that overlooks Lanner village and the coastline from its hilltop location; a former granite quarry, this site now hosts a small, open-air theatre with performances held throughout the summer. In neighbouring Redruth, you will find a multi-screen cinema, whilst in nearby Carn Brea, you will find a former medieval castle (now a restaurant), which once belonged to Lord Bassett, the most influential mine owner in the area during the 18th and 19th centuries. The beaches at Portreath and Porthtowan are just a short drive from Lanner, and there are several off-road cycle trails in the area, including the Coast to Coast Trail which follows the original tramway from Portreath on the north coast to Devoran on the south.
