About this property
Minutes from St Ives, Fabulous Beaches and St Michael's Mount!
Hufflepuff Lodge is a two bedroom property that sleeps 4/5 people self catering.
Wake up to uninterrupted, panoramic countryside views as far as the eye can see in one direction and views straight across to St Michael's Mount and the sea in the other. Conveniently located on the A30 Coast to Coast road just outside St Ives, close to Hayle, Mounts Bay (St Michael's Mount is clearly visible from the windows!) and Penzance, you will find Hufflepuff Lodge attached to The Old Schoolhouse in Whitecross.
Hufflepuff lodge is fully equipped with the complete Sky Movies package, plus super fast Infinity broadband and a selection of family board games & books catering for those who prefer to stay in and just relax. Conversely, you will also find a selection of beach equipment, body boards and toys provided for you to enjoy when you're feeling active!
The open top bus in high season (closed top at other times) stops right outside Hufflepuff Lodge to St Ives, Hayle and Truro in one direction or to Mounts Bay, Penzance and Mousehole in the other so you don't even need to bother with your car if you don't want to!
The Star Inn, an award winning pub and home of the Penzance Brewing Company, is only a short walk away, as is a Chinese Takeaway (that delivers!), Spar shop for provisions and Post Office. There are a number of pubs and restaurants to choose from within a short 5/10 minute drive from the property or take the bus if you prefer to leave the car behind.
With many award winning beaches within very close proximity, such as St Ives, Porthminster, Porthmeor, 3 miles of stunning golden sands at Hayle, Gwitian, Marazion with St Michael's Mount, Sennen Cove, Praa Sands, Peranuthnoe... just to name a few, you'll be absolutely spoilt for choice. All of which are Life Guarded during main season.
Beat the crowds at high season by walking down to St Erth Station where you can get on the famous Lelant to St Ives train, pick the best seats before everybody piles on at Lelant (hot tip for you there!) and enjoy the breathtaking views on that famously scenic journey around the bay.
Easy access to the South West Costal path and there are lots of footpaths and Geocaching routes to enjoy right on the doorstep. The Tate Gallery, Jubilee Pool, Paradise Park, Sculpture Gardens and fabulous tea rooms are within easy reach and the stunning open air Minack Theatre, Lands End experience, Flambards and the Eden Project are just a short drive away.
For those who love to shop, Truro is only 20 mins away by car with all the big names you'd expect to see in any large city. It holds it's Farmers Market on Saturday mornings and Penzance has a Farmers Market on a Friday morning.
Hufflepuff Lodge is ideally situated as a convenient base, without any of the typically hair raising Cornish narrow lanes to navigate to get to it! An ideal location for convenient, quick and easy reach of all of the best that beautiful West Cornwall has to offer.

About the host

The family have set a series of superb Geocaches in the area called “Sammy's Cornish Capers”, full of swaps, aimed specifically for children to enjoy. Why they chose this property
Gastronomic delight! The far west of Cornwall is home to some of the finest restaurants in the UK and Penzance is reputed to be a Gastronomic haven for foodies to flock to and enjoy the finest fresh fish, shellfish and produce in the land.
The Old Schoolhouse holds a heartfelt, sentimental significance to the owner. It was the owner's childhood dream to live in such a property with panoramic views and no neighbours peering into the garden watching what you're doing!! Having visited West Cornwall, specifically St Ives, twice a year every year as a child, after losing both her parents unexpectedly, Julie took the tragedy and turned it into a positive. Not wanting to be right in the heart of St Ives with all the push and shove in high season, The Old Schoolhouse is comfortably on the outskirts and on the bus route right outside the house to pop in & out without the hassle of traffic & parking. Perfect location with a spectacular beach just at the end of the road in either direction - what's not to love?!
Hufflepuff Lodge, named so by her little girl Jennifer, enables visitors to come and enjoy the absolutely stunning big sky views all around and marvel at the landscape as it changes from countryside views to the left and costal views to the right. It combines the best of both worlds yet is on a 'proper' road not up a hair raising narrow lane, with very easy access to several big supermarkets, a huge M&S, Boots and NEXT within striking distance plus all the quirky independently owned boutiques, galleries and artisan food sellers of St Ives and Penzance. Dominoes & various other takeaways, deliver too - the kids are happy!!

What makes this property unique
The views and highly convenient location are exceptional. Hufflepuff Lodge at the brow of the hill in Whitecross, just on the outskirts of St Ives and the views across open countryside, awash with yellow in the Spring with flowering daffodils, are breathtaking. Look to the right and you're looking at the Sea and the top of St Michael's mount, fantastic lit up at night. Behind the property are gorgeous country walks and a footpath route that takes you across to the back of St Ives. There is a high point a short walk behind us called Trencrom Hill, from where, on a clear day, you can actually see all 3 coastlines! The views are truly magnificent and the convenience of location second to none. The beach is literally just at the bottom of the road in either direction, turn left from Hufflepuff Lodge and within minutes you're in Hayle or St Ives, turn right and you're on Marazion beach (owner's favourite) where its great fun to take a disposable BBQ down in the evenings and have a BBQ watching the sunset with a glass of something nice in your hand...
