Set on the northern coast of the River Dyfi, the picturesque harbour resort of Aberdyfi (also known as Aberdovey) has miles of sandy beaches and a championship golf course and is a great spot for a range of water sports including sailboarding, rowing, canoeing, and sailing. The village hosts yachting regattas in the summer and is popular with surfers and anglers. Aberdyfi has a choice of independent shops, pubs and restaurants serving local seafood, and makes a great base for keen walkers and climbers exploring the southern reaches of the Snowdonia National Park. The cottage lies in the Penhelyg area, ideally situated close to a popular village pub, with the Old Roman Road and a Cambrian Coast railway halt nearby.
Immediately in front of Rock Bottom is the Memorial Gardens, a lovely, horticulturally distinguished garden commemorating the heroes of World War Two. With mature shrubs and a wonderful lawn, it makes an excellent place to walk the dog or have a picnic and admire the sea views before popping into the friendly pub or cafes.
Stepping into this bright and inviting holiday home, the ground floor features a spacious and welcoming open-plan lounge, kitchen and dining area. With beautiful original slate flooring, TV with Sky, Echo music speaker, plenty of seating and a coal-effect gas fire for cosy nights in, the lounge is an ideal space for everyone to unwind in at the end of a wonderful day.
There is a large dining area with comfortable bench seating, a great place to eat a cooked meal made from the local ingredients grown and sold in the village. A luxury, contemporary kitchen with Corian work tops was fitted recently (January 2026) and has a wide range of useful equipment including a dishwasher, fridge with ice compartment, electric oven and hob, microwave, air fryer, 4 sliced toaster and a washing dryer machine. The kitchen is very well-equipped; crockery, cutlery and utensils of a high standard are supplied. A built-in glass cupboard, in an original alcove, stocked with every conceivable drinking vessel is delightful – bringing real class to a sociable drink with friends and family.
From the lounge, a sunny front terrace features garden furniture and makes a lovely spot for al fresco dining. External steps lead up to a brand-new very large, south-facing decked area (built March 2026) with stunning and enviable views over the estuary and out across Cardigan Bay – positioned to look at the iconic view looking into Aberdyfi. It’s a wonderful sun trap, but there is shade under a few lovely trees if you move the sun loungers! Deck chairs in the shed! The private garden surrounding the decking is a peaceful place to sit – there is sheltered woodland where beautiful snowdrops, daffodils and bluebells can be seen when it’s their time of the year to put on a show!
A free car pass is provided for a wide range of local pay and display car parks, which will save you quite a bit of money over the course of your stay – one is just 150 metres from the cottage, another is by the beach in the centre of the village, others farther afield.
