The region
Old Cleeve is a peaceful village on the edge of Exmoor National Park, tucked between the harbour town of Watchet and the seaside resort of Minehead along the A39.
The village has a timeless feel, with thatched cottages, the medieval church of St Andrew's -- dating back to the 12th century and Grade I listed -- and quiet lanes winding through rolling farmland. The neighbouring hamlet of Washford, a short walk away, is home to Cleeve Abbey, one of the finest medieval monasteries in England, cared for by English Heritage.
Despite the rural tranquillity, the village is well connected. Washford has two traditional pubs, a cider farm, and a station on the West Somerset Railway. The coastal hamlet of Blue Anchor, approximately one mile to the north, has a sandy beach, a beachfront pub, and a popular cafe. Watchet is approximately 3 miles east, with a working harbour, independent shops, cafes, and a museum. Minehead, approximately 6 miles west, has larger supermarkets (Tesco, Morrisons, and Lidl on the outskirts), petrol stations, and a range of high street shops.
