A Restored Retreat in Presque Isle: The Ultimate "Up North" Escape After a period of closure and extensive repairs following a 2023 hail storm, we are thrilled to welcome guests back to our freshly updated salt-box style home. Located in a quiet corner of Northeastern Michigan within the Presque Isle Harbor Association, this home is a true sanctuary for our family and we're happy to share it with those looking to unplug and enjoy the natural beauty of Lake Huron.
The Space Our home is thoughtfully decorated and designed for comfort and relaxation. Please note that to maintain the peaceful atmosphere and protect the curated decor (including glass tables and delicate ground-level items), our home is strictly for adults only and we do not allow pets.
Living & Entertainment: The main floor features an open living area with a Bluetooth speaker for your favorite music. While there is no TV, we provide board games and puzzles for old-fashioned fun.
Kitchen & Dining: The newly remodeled kitchen is a chef’s delight, now featuring a blender and food processor alongside standard appliances like a coffee pot.
Bedrooms: Three cozy bedrooms (one on the main floor, two upstairs) feature two queen beds and one full-size bed.
Outdoor Living: Enjoy the back deck featuring a propane grill and outdoor seating, perfect for watching the local wildlife or stargazing.
Climate & Connectivity This is an authentic "Up North" experience. The home is equipped with a furnace for chilly nights but does not have Air Conditioning. However, the area is very comfortable in the summer with natural breezes.
While cellular service is unavailable at the house (cell service can typically be found in a 5 minute drive towards the marina), we have recently installed Starlink Wi-Fi so you can stay connected as much or as little as you like.
The Location & Events We are perfectly situated for nature lovers and maritime enthusiasts:
Presque Isle Harbor Wooden Boat Show: If you are visiting during the third Saturday in June, don't miss this iconic local event just minutes away!
Knaebe's Apple Farm & Ciderworks is a local seasonal favorite and definitely worth the visit if its open.
Outdoor Adventure: We are a short distance from the historic Presque Isle Lighthouses, Michigan State Parks, and the Grand Lake and Long Lake marinas.
Stargazing: Located near a "light-free zone," the night sky here is breathtaking.
Day Trips: We are 30 minutes from Alpena or Rogers City and just 90 minutes from Mackinac Island.
Guest Notes - Winter Stays: Please note that many local businesses close during the winter. - Guests do not have access to the Association Clubhouse or recreation areas.
Wildlife: Expect to see birds, squirrels, rabbits, and deer right from the windows.
Parking: Plenty of on-site parking is available. Follow us on Instagram for more photos: @rentbwell

The house was beautiful the yard and everything was kept very clean and nice. The check in process was a breeze. We will be staying here in the future! Thank you!!
Everything was exactly as described. Peter made things very easy. The property was great. I wouldn’t hesitate to stay there again if in the area or recommend to someone else.

Beautiful place in a beautiful town!
The property was beautiful, very clean and nicely decorated, with all the amenities you would expect - and more! The addition of the gas grill outside really took it up a notch too. We did all the outdoor summer activities we could find, and it was very nice to come back to such a beautiful and comfortable home at the end of the day to rest up!

Thank you Angela, we're happy you liked the grill. It's one of our favorite features of our house due to the modest kitchen. We couldn't agree more about how beautiful the area is.
We rented for a wedding. The hosts were so nice and let us check in 2 hours early so that we could change prior to the wedding. House was exactly as described. It was quiet and relaxing for our short stay.

So glad it worked out for you and that you enjoyed your stay!
While traveling for work in the area, my co-workers and I stayed here and it was a wonderful place to relax each day after working. The home was clean and cozy and the beds were comfortable! We were able to check out the lighthouses which were very close by and found the surrounding location to be very scenic and relaxing. The home was exactly as described in the listing and I would recommend to others to check it out.

Perfect Hide-a-way
We enjoyed our stay and the property itself. It's the perfect hide-a-way because there is no cell coverage. Very peaceful. And the place is immaculate. Thanks.

Thanks for the kind words Bob, glad you had a great trip.
Very clean and well equipped. Beds and other furnishings were especially comfy. I loved the nautical décor; it inspired me to up my nautical theme at home! The stargazing at night was spectacular! This is a very peaceful, cozy, retreat with many amenities to enjoy in the surrounding area. I had a wonderful time, and I will definitely stay there again.

So glad you had a good experience and that you enjoyed our cabin as much as we do!
Loved the location, great for two couples to unplug & unwind for the weekend! We thought there would be a fire pit and there wasn't, otherwise loved the privacy with a great deck and grill to use. Beds were very comfortable. We loved no service but had wifi for what we needed. It was a great escape for sure.
We rented this home to celebrate our sister’s 75th because she’s always loved Lake Huron, and this property is very close.
The home was very nice and clean, with updated appliances and terrific bedroom and washroom spaces.
The property owner was very good with communication and promptly answered any questions I had.
I only stayed for one night for a family memorial in Posen. But I really enjoyed the cottage. The only thing I can say is there is no cell service from the house.
We enjoyed our stay at this lovely, nicely decorated home that’s just a short bike ride away from the Presque Isle, MI harbor marina. It’s a nice spot to get away from the noise. There is no tv or cellphone reception, but there is wi-fi internet reception. Lovely deck to read a book. Had a great bike ride from Rogers City north to Hoeft State Park and back.
Communication with the owner was wonderful. Hopefully we will be back:)
This property is accurately represented in the listing. It is a clean, quiet house in a beautiful area. Plenty of space and adequate provisions. The only negative thing I have to say is that there is no cell or internet service which made communicating with other members of our party and our dog sitter at home with our sick dog very difficult. If you’re looking for a place to relax and unplug, this is it.
Beautiful area. Nice cottage for a getting away from it all. Took a day to get used to no cell service at cottage - Only a short walk or drive to find it - but once I adjusted and the people at home understood. It was perfect.

About the host
Hosted by Peter Bagwell
We grew up in Southeast Michigan and always wanted a cabin 'up-north' in Michigan. Even though we now live out of state, we are happy to have this little place to enjoy the beautiful Michigan summers with family and friends. We also come up in the winter for a change of pace and to relax.
Why they chose this property
We chose this property because it is close to the water, fairly secluded, but within an hour of everything we need. It also reminds us of what 'Up-North' was like as kids - plenty of woods, beaches to explore and as quiet as you can get.
What makes this property unique
The interior has a nautical 'cabin' feel with many updated furnishings and comfortable linens. This is definitely the more undeveloped side of the state, giving guests a more natural and rustic experience with the luxury of a comfortable place to come home to. Its very quiet here despite being in an active neighborhood. The area is also known to be very safe and the locals are friendly.
