Writer's Retreat or Romanic Getaway? (31+ days only) Month Long Vacation Rental

Heartland Studio is a former Writer's Retreat. With it’s ocean view, private entrance and parking, barbecue area, outside table and direct walkway to Zikar Park, the studio also a perfect a romantic getaway.

We encourage you to take a pleasant stroll down to the pond and explore the redwood groves beyond. You’ll find chairs and little tables are up within them, perfect for simply sitting around, enjoying the rustling of the breeze as it makes its way through the trees.

The wall décor are original pieces of history. In the bathroom are early works of Van Arsdale (circa the 1920’s) and Alberto Vargas’ work from Esquire in the mid 40’s. Over my desk, you’ll find Alex Raymond’s 1934 Flash Gordon and Buck Rogers from 1935. We hope you’ll enjoy our collection of movie posters including Laurel & Hardy, Charlie Chaplin, Marilyn Monroe, Shirley Temple and Ronald Reagan, and the westerns of John Ford. All the happy pieces around the fireplace are the work of my wife, who loves collecting these treasures from the golden era of film.

Sweet serenity

Such a lovely place with lovely hosts. Clean, quiet and comfortable. Perfect amenities with a few unexpected extras like a wide selection of books or movies to choose from, if that’s your pleasure. Enjoyed my stay and would come back to Heartland in a heartbeat.

Lovely view, comfortable space, too bad about the wildfires

Really lovely getaway, and the view of the ocean from the balcony is just as great as pictured. Studio is clean and comfortable (though be warned that the bed is VERY soft - a bit of a stiff back in the morning as a result). The owners communicated well, especially when natural disaster struck: first power outage and then the water pump stopped working. They were helpful as we figured out Plan B. Highly recommended for relaxing and enjoying the area, but avoid fire season!

Perfect little getaway

This was a perfect spot for my husband and I to get away from all those house chores, garden chores, etc., and enjoy each other and the beautiful area of Gualala. The place was perfectly appointed, plenty of space, sweet old movie themes everywhere, and very comfortable. We are coming back for sure!!

Magical Cabin in the Woods

What a lovely, lovely property Ray and Pauline have chosen to share. It was precisely what was advertised and what we hoped for- quiet, with a gorgeous landscape around it and a lovely ocean view. Ray made our stay just lovely. An added bonus was getting to go on walks around their amazing property- full of magical redwood circles and wildflowers. Ray, thank you for making our stay so lovely and sharing some of your vision for the property. We will definitely be back. Highly, highly recommended!

This studio is just perfect! My husband and I needed a couple of days to get away and rest, and the owners have created this lovely peaceful retreat with all the conveniences you need. We were able to cook our dinners at home, and enjoy Gualala and its cafes during the day. There are also two great supermarkets there so we didn't need to bring a ton of groceries. It was pouring rain the first day, but the apartment was so nice, we were actually kind of excited to be able to enjoy it fully. A really great place!

Ideal Getaway!

We loved, loved, loved Ray’s and Pauline’s beautiful, immaculate, and very comfortable retreat on their tree-filled hillside estate overlooking the bright blue Pacific. This wonderful studio is spacious and airy, surrounded by beautiful gardens and pathways, yet secure and secluded with a very relaxing vibe. The private location is perfect for exploring ocean-side villages with postcard views of coastal landscapes and wildlife. Or you can view the ocean and surrounding area from the balcony and living area which we also did every day. This is one trip we will make over again and again due to the great temperate site, wonderful open concept accommodations, and outstanding hosts. The only thing we regretted was that we could not stay here longer this time! Thank you again for sharing your California Heartland Haven.

Wonderful romantic hideaway!

The Heartland Studio is the perfect romantic hideaway, just for two, so leave the kids or in-laws at home. Roomy and airy with windows on all sides to catch the wonderful breeze, the studio is clean, cozy, and very secluded. With modern appliances, you have everything you need for a relaxing vacation. Great surroundings with gardens and easy walks. Just a few miles from the ocean, which you can stare at from the balcony or the living room.
