We really enjoyed our week on the lake. The view is amazing. The cabin was cozy and comfortable, the location was excellent. Definitely great place to

Thank you for your kind review and I am so happy that you found the place comfy and cozy. I can't wait to go there at the end of the week.
We were unlucky with wet weather the 3rd week of September but this cottage is so charming and comfy that we greatly enjoyed the indoors: wood fires in the fieldstone fireplace, working remotely on laptops while looking out at the lake (beautiful in all weather), and plenty of seating for family members who came for coffee or cocktails or to curl up and read a book by the fire.

Thank you for the review, and informing folks that bad weather doesn't necessarily mean a "bad" vacation. Hope you choose to return in 2023. And your guest suggestions and information was helpful. Personally, I love to have an excuse to "curl up" in front of the fireplace, put my feet on the bench and read a book, or in some cases just stare at the flames. I am due to arrive on October 8th for my time in "heaven".

If there were six stars, we would rate it six stars!
We loved it! Everything you need in a Maine vacation, and more, is here. The cabin is clean, quite large, super comfy, and decorated perfectly and filled with just about everything you need for a week (or more) getaway. Just steps from the dock and lake, which is gorgeous. Breathtaking sunsets every night, which photos don't begin to do justice.
Dick, the owner, was super helpful and extremely thorough. One of the best hosts we've ever had.
We will be back for many years to come! Can't recommend this cabin enough.

Thank you for your kind words, and hope that you will consider us again. The access to the water, the nearby conveniences, and the sunsets should make up for any blemish like, erratic fishing results and rainy weather.
Had a wonderful week on Long lake staying at this rustic cottage. Found this place last minute and was a great option for the area during July 4th week. This cottage is vintage Maine, with knotty pine paneling, well worn floors and lots of character. The cabin was clean, the beds were comfortable, the front porch overlooking the water was great for reading and puzzles, and the dock was amazing. You'll see some gorgeous sunsets on this lake from the dock. If you stay during 4th of July week, you just have to paddle/boat a little ways out to see the fireworks on the water. That is the best part.
The kitchen island was a bit small to cook from at times but that's what a typical Maine cottage can be like and we were too busy enjoying the outdoors to focus on cooking. I will say that pine pitch makes the outdoor furniture a bit messy but that's to be expected with all the trees. Also, some items outside were a bit mildewy and mossy but that's nature. Inside, the cabin was fine, no musty smell that is typical of cottages/cabins like this.
The washer and dryer work well, so does the grill, and the shower was good. The canoe is great, although a bit heavy to move. We paddled out in the evening when the water was calm. The kayak is great too, although it looks a bit beat up on the outside. There are life jackets and floats for use in the water and it is very fun to jump off the dock and the swim float. This place will take you back in time to a good old fashion summer vacation.

Thank you for your kind words about the cottage. We really love it when someone appreciates its uniqueness in character and location. If interested in renting for 2025, message me on fb or VRBO.
We had a great week at Loon Lodge. Dick is incredibly helpful, forthright and genuinely seemed to want us to enjoy our vacation. The cottage is charming and very comfortable. There are a lot of nooks in which to relax, from the front porches to the dock to the beautiful and expansive deck. The location is private although the neighbors we ran into were all very friendly. Naples is centrally located to many great day trips. We hope to return again next year! Thank you!
My wife and I stayed at the cottage for a full month with our 7 month old. Dick was an extremely communicative and helpful host from the time we booked all the way until we left. The new AC units worked great and came in handy on a couple 90+ days. The internet connection was also very strong, which was important given this was a working vacation. The location was also great - a grocery store right down the road, as well as the causeway.
We spent many hours sitting out on the porch - it was exactly what we were hoping for from a lakefront house. We already have our next stay booked!
We enjoyed a wonderful week at Loon Lodge. The pictures and description were accurate. We were very impressed with how comfortable all the beds were. This location is convenient to everything you need, groceries, firewood, restaurants and the marina. Richard was an excellent host. The previous renters had reported a couple of minor things in need of repair and Richard made sure they were taken care of immediately. Thank you for a wonderful stay!
This is a great place to vacation with family. The location is really what makes it so special - from the deep water dock with stairs into the water to the amazing sunsets all just a few steps from the cottage. Also, the convenience of Naples and groceries are just a few minutes away. We found the the beds to be of good quality and extremely supportive and comfortable. The cottage has a lot of charm and is very comfortable. Finally, the owner is very good with timely communications before and during our stay. If we have opportunity to vacation again in Naples/Long Lake we will definitely stay here again.

Doris and I are always delighted when some family enjoys the beauty of Long Lake and the uniqueness of Walden/Bonaventure. Due to Covid, and various quarantines, we were unable to get the split/units installed before your arrival, along with some other planned improvements All work came to a halt in March. I hope you were able to enjoy the cries of the loons, took many pictures of the sunsets, the Songo River Queen passing by, and the outside seating area - my favorite spot for morning coffee. If you can think of any improvements or suggestions for next year, please email me. We are looking forward to our first trip there since 2019 in October.
Loved the tranquility of off season. Looking out over the beautiful lake and listening to the loons was very relaxing. Fireplace was a great bonus! Enjoyed kayaking and swimming. Very glad we found this place.

We agree about the off season, we think it is the best time between Labor Day and Columbus Day. No heat, humidity, lake traffic, etc. very relaxing. We were there for almost three weeks before your arrival and enjoyed the 5 loons and a sighting of a bald eagle whom we think is nesting in a tree on the property. The water temp is still swimmable for the hardy, and the sunsets just as stunning as in high season.
We are so happy to have found this lovely cabin on Long Lake. With its 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, we had plenty of room for us and our two kids. We loved the dock, our favorite part of the property. With the stairs, it made entering and exiting the water extremely easy. (And the sunset views are breathtaking!) We truly enjoyed exploring the lake by boat. We went to Sebago (through the locks) and travelled to Harrison a couple of times! Richard was extremely helpful and responsive which was very much appreciated. We had everything we needed for the week and even access to a canoe and kayak (nice to not have to rent)! Thank you for a great week of family fun and memories we’ll cherish always.

We are always delighted to rent to families who will create memories at our cottage just as we did for our children and now our grandchildren. It's a special place and look forward to seeing you next year. I will be sending you a PM, with new pictures of the dock improvements we ordered in March!. You will have to come back to enjoy the extra space.

All we hoped for and more.
Often when you rent online, sight unseen, you cannot be sure of what you will get and you hope for the best. Loon Lodge nestled among the tall pines was more than a warm cozy, inviting cottage. It was an experience. We awoke to the call of the loons, clear and haunting, echoing across Long Lake. As the sun came up the heavy mist on the lake rose and dissipated as the air warmed and the Mount Washington range came into view. The private dock provides easy access to swimming and boating or just laying out in the sun listening to the water lap against the rocks. The area is lovely for hiking and exploring. The owners gave us many suggestions of things to do and places to go. They were delightful to deal with and we feel more like friends. We highly recommend the Loon Lodge Experience.

Thank you for your kind words and we are delight that my incorrect and unclear directions regarding the damper, didn't put too much "smoke" on your experience.

My husband and dog and I loved this spot on Long Lake. We are seniors and it was great to have
Level ground from the car to the house and from the house to the dock was easy to walk down. The lake was so peaceful and exactly what was needed. The king sized bed was so comfortable , and the screened in porch was a but if heaven.

Lovely lakefront location! Fantastic views and screened porches.
Loved our stay here! Good layout with enough private space for our family of 3 (1 preschooler) and my parents visiting from out of state. Stairs for water entry for swimming off the dock we're great and made it easy to get in and out (good for preschooler and someone with a bad knee). Especially loved the covered porches. We had rainy weather for part of the stay and it was still lovely to sit and watch the rain and the lake.

Thank you for your kind review. The stairs were new last year after my 73 year knees cried for stairs with railings. Now, I can at least, sit and dangle. Hopefully you did not experience an intense storm rolling over the lake. Lightning striking the water is an awesome view, especially when it directly hits the Songo River Queen when it passes by. Originally, under the Chute Homestead, there were two rental units - Walden and Bonaventure. One side had a kitchen, the other did not, so one side had to eat at the Big House or a different restaurant each night while the other got to cook. Each side had its own open porch ( not enclosed at the time ), waterside dock sitting area and point of entry. With 4 children we needed two separate indoor spaces.

Why they chose this property
We had never been to Maine before and stumbled upon this unique property called Chute's Homestead and Cottages. It consisted of 13 waterfront cabins of which there are only two remaining in essentially the original condition - Loon Lodge which was actually two separate rental units - one side had kitchen facilities, the other(where the master bedroom and twin bedroom and bath are, did not) Those guests were able to eat their meals in the Common Area where breakfast and lunch was available each day. Dinners were BBQ's and Lobster Bakes twice a week. Otherwise, they ate at local restaurants, many of whom no longer exist. On our first visit, we rented a different cabin, fell in love with the area, and came back for several years, renting a different cabin each year. In the Common Area, folks gathered for breakfast and lunch and it was quite social, many returned to the same cabins each year at the same time and long-time friendships were developed. Currently there are only three owners left who ever experienced the hospitality of the Chute Homestead. There is a diary with pictures and postcard underneath a table in the living room giving more details. During the summer of 1985, I received a phone call from the owner, Phil Chute, whose health was beginning to deteriorate. He decided to sell the cottages that had been in his family for over 70 years. For some reason, he created a short list of potential buyers from a former guest list whom he liked and thought they would appreciate the opportunity to experience Life as it Should Be. My family and children were thrilled to be considered on that list. Over the phone, I said "yes" and agreed to purchase the cabin sight unseen. 80 % of the original owners were folks who had rented in the past, the rest where local flippers who were in for the fast buck. Why this property? Location, Location, Location.
What makes this property unique
Waterfront, Deep Entry, 40 miles of boating. Closeness to North Conway, New Hampshire, the coast of Maine, Portland, skiing, hiking, fishing, lobsters, etc.
