About this property

Stay in a classic American log cabin on Lake Superior’s North Shore

Just three miles south of Two Harbors, MN, our vintage 1925 log cabin “micro-resort” waits for you with 11 acres of woods and 450 feet of private Superior shoreline! Our Mom&Pop retreat is small on capacity (maximum 12 guests), so your Up North stay will be definitely off the crowded path.
Mni Wiconi Cabins are modernized for year-round comfort with fully-equipped kitchens, heating, fireplaces, bedrooms and bathrooms.
We offer weekly rental only from Saturday noon to Friday noon during high season of June-October. There is a minimum 2-night rental during low season, November-May.
The main cabin, named “Big Rock,” is our only VRBO selection, for the moment. This iconic cabin has two bedrooms for 6 guests, a very large kitchen with two eating areas and is stocked with kitchen linens, dishware, Mr. Coffee, Keurig and filters, pots&pans, etc. Bring your own food and consumables like coffee.
Big Rock’s bathtub/shower combo has a vintage pedestal sink, toilet and closets full of fresh indoor towels and washcloths. Bring your own towels for the beach and consumables like shampoo&conditioner.
You’ll also have a beautifully furnished living room featuring an original fieldstone fireplace with new heatilator, an enclosed porch with stunning lake views, rocking chairs, kids games, a flat screen tv w Blu-ray player, VHS player and family movies. No WiFi or cable.
Large resort lawns are great for croquet, soccer practice, smelling the garden, watching resort chickens and ducks, or just relaxing. Bring your own lawn toys and beach gear. Then, explore 450 feet of Lake Superior shoreline, ledgerock and pebble beach for your agate-hunting pleasure.
Local people have a healthy respect for the legendary lake; so be careful of her sudden mood changes, uneven rocky ledges and slippery pathways. A screen house, Adirondack chairs, BBQ grill&tools, and campfire ring round out outdoor amenities. We provide firewood but bring your own briquettes for grilling.
This peaceful setting is perfect for enjoying the ancient waters, abundant wildlife, area parks and trail systems and pristine “up north” living. Please leave loud party plans, firearms, pets, 4wheelers and tobacco products at home. Mni Wiconi Cabins welcome guests for a respectful, quiet but fun-filled stay.
(NOTE about the micro resort activity :
The second cabin, named Hilltop, is not listed yet on VRBO. Hilltop is for owner use/private rental and may have 2 guests staying. There is a separate lounging area on the lakeside for Hilltop guests.
The third cabin, named Bywater, is not listed yet on VRBO. It is for owner use/private rental and may have 4 guests staying. There is a separate lakeside fire pit down the front lawn for Bywater guests.
We do have a chicken coop with 7 chickens on the resort. Feel free to watch them in their enclosed run.
Resort maintenance like lawnmowing, painting, snowplowing, gardening may occur unannounced during your cabin stay. )
The 2024 season begins January - May with minimum 2 night rentals. Check-in at 3 pm, check out at 11am. June - October are weekly rentals from Saturday through Friday. Check-in Saturday at 3 pm, check-out Friday at 11am. Daily prices are $325 unless posted differently on the reservation calendar. NOTE: The main cabin, Big Rock, that you see here, is scheduled to close to VRBO reservations in mid-September 2024. Due to a family death, I was too foggy to get my 2024 reservation schedule organized properly, so you may see “less than weekly” reservations were made during June-September. Oh well. That is why you may find some “less than weekly” opportunities during these months for 3, 4, or 5 day vacations……

Amazing weekend away!
From the moment we arrived...we were amazed at the property, the cabin, and the lake! It is truly the perfect blend of a rustic, up-north cabin and modern conveniences! Pillows and blankets thoughtfully placed to snuggle is and enjoy the breathtaking view. The location is simply perfect: within 30 minutes of Duluth and a couple miles from Two Harbors. You can unpack and enjoy every minute on site, or venture out to fish and hike and see the sights. Within minutes we knew we would be back!

Great place with perfect setting
I would say better than advertised. This is a quaint cabin with updated amenities. The sunrise over the lake was simply beautiful. This place has a great rustic cabin charm that gave me "I am home" feeling. I am looking forward to coming here again.

Thanksgiving on Lake Superior
This log cabin was absolutely prefect for our Thanksgiving holiday stay on the North Shore. It is located directly shoreside, with easy access to the rocks and the lake. The views of the lake from multiple rooms are stunning. There were blankets readily available in every room, just an arm's length away, so we were cozy at all times. The full kitchen was great for preparng our Thanksgiving dinner, and dishwasher made clean up simple. There were bookshelves filled with all types of books for every reader - fiction, nonfiction, children's books. And many games to play and movies to watch. We were able to easily reach the Superior Hiking Trail for a morning trail run and hike. We were very pleased with our time here and highly recommend it.
