About this property

Ca' Dei Greci Canal View

A beautiful canal side address to impress – the epitome of style and understated elegance on the Canal Dei Greci with its famous leaning tower nearby. This really is the best of both worlds… less than ten minutes from all the must-see sights of St Mark's Square (including the Basilica, the Doge’s Palace and the Clock Tower) and yet right next to the quieter, more atmospheric neighbourhood of Castello.

Fans of Donna Leon’s fictional crime-buster, Commissario Guido Brunetti, will certainly feel at home here. The offices of the “Questura” where he works are a few doors away.

Ca’ dei Greci is an unusually light and airy apartment with lovely views over a wide canal - gondolas glide past and a water taxi can drop you at your front door. It offers spacious and classically Venetian surroundings for up to eight guests with four very private bedrooms and three bathrooms.

The main sitting-room has three double-height windows opening directly onto a balcony overlooking the canal, with a park beyond. It’s a charming, central room, very Venetian in style with an oriental rug on a traditional terrazzo floor, old mirrors and tasteful artworks.

The informal TV room to the side has huge, comfortable sofas, an upright piano for the musically inclined and two windows also overlooking the canal. The air-conditioned dining room is a picture of elegance in which classic wooden cabinetry and the bold geometric patterns of the polished parquet flooring are offset by the delicacy of a fine crystal chandelier and pretty cane-backed chairs. If you fancy a formal Venetian dinner, this is the place!

The dining room looks out towards the Campinale of St Mark's which you can see over the terracotta rooftops. Next to it stands the white, light-filled kitchen which is fully equipped and features traditional terazzo flooring plus a scrubbed wooden country style table for lazy breakfasts or preparing lunch or dinner.

There are four large and very tasteful bedrooms – three doubles and a twin - each stylishly presented with antique furniture, comfortable beds and beautiful wardrobes. The master bedroom has a secret door leading to its own hidden bathroom and canal views. The double bedroom at the back looks out over a pretty, palm-filled garden and the twin is charming and roomy.

So – ideal for a large family or for couples staying together (and needing their own space), Ca’ Dei Greci is a Venetian home from home.

OUR COMMENT

Space and relaxed grandeur in a fabulous spot…

A short walk to the atmospheric Scuola di San Giorgio degli Schiavoni and its wonderful Carpaccio paintings, the monumental Dominican Basilica di Santi Giovanni e Paolo (one of the largest churches in Venice and burial place of no fewer than 25 Venetian Doges), and to Campo Santa Maria Formosa (site of the Querini Stampalia) passing Palazzo Grimani on the way.

And even closer to home - moments to the cavernous and newly restored Church of San Lorenzo (long closed but now home to Ocean Space - a collaborative platform focusing on ocean conservation) and to the Museo di Dipinti Sacri Byzanti (Museum of Icons) just along the canal.

Also within easy reach of the local Punto supermarket for easy self-catering and to the vaporetto (water bus) stop at San Zaccaria for easy travel around the city.

For arrivals between 8.00 p.m. and midnight there is an additional cost for "late arrival" of Euro 50, to be paid in cash upon arrival. We organize arrivals between midnight and one o'clock with an additional cost of Euro 100, after this time we reserve the right to accept the customer always with a supplement to be quantified according to the time of arrival.

Venice

Great location near San Marco square. The apartment is huge and well equipped. A little dated but that added to the charm. Quiet at night with a view of a busy canal during the day. The manager was great to deal with, explaining the apartment and organizing out water taxis. We highly recommend and would return.

Family stay in Venice

The apartment was spacious, lovely and well-located, a five minute walk to the Piazza. Views on Venice arranged several outings for us, and were very helpful when weather interfered with our plans. We loved our time in Venice

Castello area of Venice apartment

I would highly recommend this property. The Castello area is an 8 minute walk from the heart of the San Marco Rialto Bridge area. It is located in a residential area avoiding the chaos and crowds. It is just a block over the bridge to the grocery store, 2 doors from the police station (no noise) and steps from many restaurants choices. If you have a private vaporetto it drops you steps from the front door. BONUS! Marco met us at checkin and did an incredible job showing us around the apartment and mapping out places of interest and restaurant recommendations. The apartment was a unique and great cultural addition to our stay. Note that you do have to drag your bags up 3 flights of stairs. It is spacious and everything worked great inside. I would say the photos look more updated than the actual unit presents but nothing to keep you from booking it. The floors need some work. They are very old wooden detailed floors but pieces are missing and it tends to move a bit. It's like walking on a kids wooden jigsaw puzzle. The ability to stand on the small balcony and overlook the canal was an added treat. All in all I would stay there again. It made the adventure memorable and authentic.

Great apartment along a canal, lots of room for three couples with everything one would need. Away from the crowds but close to anything you would want to experience. Great communication with the property manager, very helpful. Just wonderful all around.

Fabulous Property

We loved this property, very spacious, clean and in a perfect location. St Marks square was a short 10 minute walk and the Rialto bridge about 15 minutes. Plenty of very good restaurants within a very short distance also. Highly recommend.

Beautiful, spacious apartment - Great location

This was a perfect stay for us. We had 3 couples so each had our own room and bathroom plus one bedroom extra we didn't need. Location is great and the staff are very helpful. Everything went without a hitch.

Best location for a Venice vacation

The location of the apartment was perfect! It's far enough from St. Mark's Square that it's quiet and peaceful, yet close enough (just a 10 minute walk) that's it just a short walk to almost anywhere in the city. The apartment was comfortable and spacious. The rental agents, Views On Venice, were delightful to interact with.

A great apartment in Venice

3 day Venice Stay

The location of the property was fabulous and the apartment was very spacious! The host was fantastic - very responsive and helpful. Check-in and check-out was very easy. The apartment appeared much older than the pictures would suggest and the floor in certain rooms were very noisy.

Beautiful Venetian property with professional management.

The apartment was very spacious, much more than we even imagine from the pictures, everything was clean and attended to with no complaints whatsoever. Can’t say enough about the staff of the management company and how helpful they were arranging our arrival and departure. For anyone first time travelers to Venice, this is a must stay property for the convenience and Professional management. Five stars + !

Beautiful palazzo

This is a walk up property on the 3rd floor. So, if you have elderly in your group or those who are mobility challenged, this may not be the place for you. Aside from that it’s a lovely space for up to 8 people. We never felt cramped. And we even had a chef come in and cook an incredible meal for us. I recommend this place.

Fantastic home in Venice

This apartment is beautiful, a short walk from St. Mark's and many top sites, but just on the edge of a quieter, more local Venice. The management team is incredible and was very responsive to our questions and requests before and during our stay. I have nothing negative to say! Be aware, only, that the unit is on the third floor (U.S.)/second floor (Italian) and there is no elevator, which is common for Venice, especially in historic buildings.

Top story apartment on a canal

Three couples traveling in Italy stayed for three nights at the Ca Dei Greci. The apartment is located in a quiet section of Castello; with a small grocery store (with cheeses, meats, wine and some liquor) a block's walk away; and with major attractions within easy walking distance (all less than a mile). The rooms were large, airy, and well air-conditioned. Water taxis daily picked us up literally at the front door, making travel to various parts of Venice very convenient (including the rail station and the airport). There are two canal-side restaurants within 100 feet. The apartment managers were always available by phone to help with transportation, schedule changes, restaurant reservations, and general information. Very much enjoyed and highly recommended .

Great location

I looked at quite a few properties for an extended family holiday before I chose this one . I have stayed in Venice several times but never in Castello. The apartment was as advertised and very comfortable for 8 people ranging from 15 to 64 . We had everything that we needed for our stay and the property was well maintained and clean . The small balcony overlooked a very quiet street with gondolas and other water traffic going past which added to the authentic Venice feel of the area . We walked everywhere from our base and found it easy to use water taxis to reach Murano and Burano with our 48 hour passes. The booking process was easy and I found the staff to be quick to reply to my queries and requests . We booked water taxis from the station and airport and then back to the airport and everything was arranged perfectly for us . I would certainly recommend this property that is away from it all if you want it to be , but close enough to get to all the sights easily .

A Very Beautiful Canal Side Apt!

We arrived in Venice after a very long day ...3 flights from Canada and 6 hours time difference. There were 7 of us including 2 children. My sister joined us a bit later. We so enjoyed the water taxi arranged by V on V. It was convenient, stress less and such a great way for a first experience in Venice. The apartment itself was wonderful. Very spacious rooms and we loved the windows/balcony on the front that looked down at the walkway, canal and 2 bridges. So Venice! It was really nice to have 4 sets of keys too. The locks themselves were all part of the experience. We didn't cook in the apartment but did have most meals there, lots of space and dishes etc. The location is perfect and not so busy as some parts of Venice. Great area to explore and we could hear the bells from St Mark's. We were pleased with the maps provided and the service was excellent. We decided to have a water taxi take us to the train station and were pleased to have that arranged for us ...so easy! I would not hesitate to recommend this place and company to anyone visiting Venice. Thank you so much!

Fantastic location w/in minutes of St. Marks, vaparetto, Castello’s great restaurants & much more.

You should rent this apartment; it was fantastic in so many ways. First of all, Francesca, Annalisa and Camila with Views On Venice were wonderful. They arranged our water taxi from the airport right to the apartment, purchased groceries & wine and put them away in the kitchen for when we arrived, booked us a great class on mask making for our kids, a kid-friendly tour of the Doge, St.Marks and much more, and cheerfully hustled about to meet the crazy demands of two American families traveling together. Their hospitality and help were beyond any measurable amount of money. Bravo! As for the apartment itself, the location is fantastic. It is an easy walk to St. Marks Sq. And the Grand Canal; dozens of nice, less-touristy restaurants in Castello; vaparetto stops (a huge help); museums; public gardens; and, thankfully, a grocery store (2 min. walk). We had 4 adults and 3 children and having groceries for breakfast, snacks, appetizers to hold kids over to dinner (which is after 7) was huge help. So the location was the incredible. The apartment was beautiful and charming. Lots of big windows and sun light. It was also very clean and well maintained. Air conditioning and wi-if and all the appliances worked great. It has lots of fun public spaces for our group to congregate, and the bedrooms felt private.

Perfect location and accommodations.

Took the water taxi from Marco Polo Airport directly to the front door of the apartment. Doesn't get much more convenient than that. Kitchen was well supplied and roomy. All the bedrooms are spacious, as is the full apartment. Restaurants, shops, grocery market, bars, etc., are close by. Only a short walk to all attractions and vaporetto stops. Negatives: Showers/baths need bath mats, because of the slippery bathtub. Back bathroom flooring is soft; possibly a sub-floor problem. We were provided with three sets of keys, which caused part of our party to be locked out of the apartment for a period of time. We needed at least four sets of keys. Other: Was the listing description accurate regarding the location, layout, facilities, etc? Yes, in fact better than expected. Was the property clean, was it well-maintained? Yes Did the owner or manager provide good customer service? Yes Would you recommend this property to a friend or relative? Yes What activities, attractions and restaurants did you like or dislike? Venice! What isn't there to like! Summary: This apartment was almost perfect for our large group.

Large apartment in a great neighborhood

The size of the apartment is palatial. Not only are there 4 bedrooms and 3 full baths (hard to find in a city for sure) the size of the rooms are huge. My husband and l could not tell anyone else was home when we were in a our canal-facing bedroom. The views were great. The property manager was extremely responsive, reaching out immediately and setting up for seamless transportation (private water taxi) from the airport and to the train. Check-in was simple; we were met immediately upon arrival, and allowed to check in early, always much appreciated after an overnight flight. The neighborhood was great, short walk to St Mark's and vaporetto but off the beaten path of tourists. Loved sitting by the canal at my local neighborhood spot to have a prosecco before dinner. Some minor suggestions: the place is full of lovely antiques and artwork, but the upholstered furniture needs cleaning and the decorative pillows need replacing. Inexpensive updates could make the sitting areas so much more appealing. The bed in one of the rooms must have the slats installed up-side-down. The mattress was concave and had to be put on the floor to make it sleepable. Check the slats; we really think they are backwards. And we asked for more towels and was told it would be 20 Euros a set (for one hand towel and one bath towel for 4 days). We declined. At a cost of over $900 USD a night for accommodations, just provide the extra towels. Left us with a bad taste.

About the host

Hosted by Views On Venice

Host profile image
Views on Venice was founded in the late 1990’s when the concept of short term apartment rentals was in its infancy and rarely considered an option by most visitors to the city. As a ‘thirty-something’ Venetian excited by the new business and communication opportunities offered by the internet, I decided to link up with a close childhood friend in creating a partnership which, at the time, was a novelty in Venice.
The idea we had in mind was to approach the traditional management of my family’s apartments from an entirely different angle, while at the same time resisting the attentions of those wanting to transform my family's palazzo into a prestigious hotel.
Our aim was to offer these apartments, as well as those of friends, for rental to an international clientele who’d take pleasure in the comfort, freedom and authenticity of ‘living at home as a Venetian’ rather than merely observing the city from the confines of an anonymous hotel room or suite.
The common denominator then, as now, was to offer ‘something extra’ amidst an already extraordinary city - an added dimension which turns a ‘stay’ into an ‘experience’ and a 'dream' into 'reality'.
