Relaxing visit to a beautiful part of Maine
This is our second visit to Bella's Bungalow and we enjoyed our visit even more this time! The cottage has been upgraded with a renovated bathroom- lots of storage and all new fixtures and flooring. The cottage is simple, yet everything you need is here- wifi, comfy sofas, tons of books, pillows and cozy nooks to settle into. The outdoor space has a small patio and grill with an outdoor eating area. Colorful Adirondack chairs can be moved into the sun. The upstairs sleeping area has air-conditioning and fans for cooling. There are tons of beds, a fully stocked kitchen- everything needed for a fun getaway. The cottage is about 2 1/2 miles from Port Clyde and 2 miles or so from the center of Tenants Harbor, so lots of eating and shopping options. Shawn-Elise is very responsive and helpful and checked in with us when the wifi was down- very appreciated. One of the easiest, most fun rentals because of the location, the experiences (definitely take the mailboat to hike around Monhegan Island!, the cottage and the towns. Thanks Shawn-Elise!!

Nice place, great location, but a few concerns
The cottage is spacious and clean, much as described, and it's in a great location. Guests who like hiking or nature walks should look at the websites for the Maine Coastal Land Trust and the Georges River Land Trust for great ideas. We loved the region and liked the cottage for the most part. Guests who want to watch televised sports (or televised anything) in the evenings should be sure to have the passwords for the providers handy. We had to log in even for channels such as Fox or NBC. The TV runs on wifi and the signal can be quite weak, causing blank screens lasting as much as 2 minutes. We also found we had to turn off the wifi on our other devices, including our phones, for the TV to work well. I would suggest asking to see the rental agreement *before* paying the (non-refundable) rental fee. I did not do so and found it a bit draconian when I saw it two days before we left home. I would not have rented the cottage had I thought to ask to see the agreement before I paid my rent. Problems with wifi, smart tvs, and agreements are not issues we have experiences we have had renting other Vrbo properties in the Penobscot region.

Maine Cottage Keepers (MCK) is a small property management and vacation rental company. Pat & Shawn-Elise Lapomarda are both the property owners and operators of the business. We are local to the MidCoast and Sebago Lake Region areas, operating and living in both.

Back in 2013, we bought a cottage down the road from Shawn-Elise's dad, near where she grew up. It was a special place to her because as a child, it was her friend’s great aunt’s home and she visited there often. We both love the location and lived there full time for a short while. In 2016, we weren’t there as much as we wanted and still paid for it each month. So we decided to rent it out when we weren’t using it. We accelerated some projects we had been putting off. We did a thorough cleaning and took some new photos. Then we listed it and our first listing, Sea Rose Cottage, was born.

Why they chose this property

We bought this property as a 20th wedding anniversary gift to each other. We always block out time in the summer for ourselves. On the way back from dinner, we both made note of something that changed everything for us. We saw a group of people sitting out in front of a classic Maine farmhouse overlooking the ocean around a fire. The next morning, I received an alert that the house we had seen had was for sale. I created that alert when we were looking for another cottage we own in Owls Head. We called our real estate broker and asked if to see it the next day, on our 20th wedding anniversary. We blown away by the possibilities it offered and decided to buy it.

A little more than a month later, we closed on that farmhouse. We started renting the three season cottage ourselves as Bella’s Bungalow. The former owner’s bed & breakfast name: Pointed Fir B&B. inspired the name Salt and Fir Farmhouse. The old barn had a family room downstairs and the old hayloft was an enclosed studio. That fall, we tore the roof off the barn and added a full length dormer to it. Over the winter, it became the Loft at Salt and Fir.
