5 star rating , Elena R.

Michael and Dawna could not be nicer hosts. They had everything we needed for our family of 5, even access to their extensive spice collection, stocked paper towels, toilet paper, detergent, floss, lotion- the works ! They really went above and beyond to ensure we had a comfortable stay. The property itself is very secluded. I liked that all 3 bedrooms are located on the same floor. At night we could hear owls which was really cool and during the day we picked fruit from a variety of hearty fruit trees on the property (lemons the size of baseballs , limes, oranges, grapes, advocados , and figs). There is no traffic where the house is tucked back on a private road and it Is so peaceful and quiet . We did a lot of day trips during our stay- Monterey , 17 mile drive , San Fransico , big basin , Santa Cruz, etc and chose the house for its central location . There is a little market , coffee shop and pizza shop nearby. Of course downtown Santa Cruz is not a far drive and that has a lot to offer. Loved their iron skillets for cooking and reverse osmosis system drinking water from the mountain spring. We are from Maryland and couldn’t believe we could sleep with the half door open and no bugs came in. Perfect weather at night . Oh and the hummingbirds come out to visit around 6 pm along with the deer. Lovely property , great location, private hot tub, majestic redwoods on the property, lovely hosts - thanks again

I love this area and would be happy to assist you with recommendations and such.

We are centrally located on the Monterey Bay on the central coast of California. Coming in from San Francisco area it takes about 1 1/2 less depending on traffic.
You will be heading south from San Francisco on highway 101 or 280 headed to Hwy 85 and going through the Santa Cruz mountains- hwy 17 - until you drop down to sea level in Santa Cruz. Then you are on Hwy 1.
You can also take highway 1 south along the coast from the San Francisco area. It's a lovely ride.

For reference purposes we are approximately 5-6 hours north of the greater Los Angeles, CA. This depends on which route you take. The coast route along highway 1 will be more time consuming than highway 101

LOCAL SITES & PLACES OF INTEREST:

You are 45 minutes drive to the 10,000 acre Nisene Marks State Park for miles of hiking or dirt biking in the Redwoods and along the Aptos creek.

Monterey has excellent attractions such as Cannery Row, a wharf and the world-famous Monterey Bay Aquarium

Easy access to Highway 1 and 17. Also there is a scenic back road to San Jose. Avoid the Highway 1 commute traffic.
Sunshine, Redwoods, hot tub, serenity ..a true refuge . Yes , even with all this serenity, we have internet service. It is not high speed cable, however it is fine for most applications. Video streaming is not available. Dish satellite is the provider.
The cell service is not great , however it does work with most carriers. We also have a “hard” line for telephone service.
A great place to come and a break from the work a day world.

Beautiful escape
Didnt realize we had booked our stay during the Perseid meteor shower and it was absolutely breathtaking. Theres barely any phone service, and the wifi is slow, but that was the whole purpose of our trip, to disconnect. If youre super scared about losing service in the forest for a weekend, accept it with open arms :)

Dawna and I lived on the property for 3 years without electricity ( we had a generator) during that time, we harvested redwoods. We had the redwood milled into lumber. The lumber dried for over 2 years. During this time period , we also had 2 children and adopted a 9 year old boy. We then developed the property. We designed and built our home using the redwood lumber from the land. We also brought in electricity, developed the artisan well and paved the private road. We raised our four children at our home. They continue to come back and stay as often as possible, They and our 14 grandchildren love the home as much as we do. The homes name is Kopjekia, which is an Africiakans word that means: mountain home. It had this name when we bought the property. (Quite a story about the name)
We truly love the home and property. You will too. !!!!!!!
