Lakefront Forest Getaway

Wonderful waterfront view, with Canal access to Lake Kerr. The property sits on a ¼ acre with large windows offering nice views of the water and sunsets. Deer, otter, and a variety of birdlife, including Sandhill cranes and hummingbirds are often visible. Recreational activities may include hiking, fishing, canoeing, boating and water skiing. Lake Kerr covers 2,830 acres of deep water roughly 2 miles by a mile wide. Shoreline unblemished by developers abounds.
The home is cozy, and comfortable. Sleeping arrangements include a bed and futon upstairs, or convertible couches downstairs. The kitchen is well equipped including a microwave and dish washer. Central air/heat keeps you comfortable, whatever the season. An upstairs balcony overlooks the lake and various board games are provided to fill in-between outdoor activities.
It’s a great weekend getaway within a few hours of Disney/Orlando, Tampa and Jacksonville! You can visit Historic St. Augustine, Daytona Beach, or attend a UF Gator game, all about an hour’s drive or, simply enjoy the forest, the quiet, the wildlife, and natural springs.
Salt Springs is nestled in the center of Ocala National Forest off SR 19, just West of Lake George, Florida’s 2nd largest lake. This is the area that inspired Marjorie Rawlings to write The Yearling, an academy award winning story about a boy who befriends an abandoned fawn.
Salt Springs offers two small restaurants, bait shop, grocery store, ice cream stand, Dollar General, and a Subway at the gas station. Palatka and Silver Springs are about 20-30 minutes away for shopping and golf. Nearby Mount Dora is a noted haven for artists and antique shops are salted around the community as well. Most weekends feature a flea market offering various regional souvenirs and goods.

Great place for a short or long stay.

Very cozy place in the Ocala National Forest. Great location near everything, forest ,water , you name it. Quiet enough but much more quiet at night. I would highly recommend to anyone.

Great location for what we wanted. Very peaceful and quiet. If you are an older couple and get up to go to the bathroom at night, you cannot stay upstairs. Stairs are very dangerous. Need to do something different. Thank goodness weh had a friend that lived clode because my husband had to stay with him.

Very beautiful location and quite peaceful.

We had a very nice stay here. Lots of accommodations and natural sightings of wildlife everyday. The stairs were a bit steeper than anticipated, so we decided to stay downstairs. Thank you!

Great place to relax

A+ All the way around. Very clean and comfortable. Yard well maintained with a beautiful view of Lake. Very relaxing. If you are looking to have fun in silver springs or the National Forrest this is the place to be. Biking and kayaking can be done directly from the cabin. Over all wonderful experience. We will be back.

Very nice and quiet place!

My husband and I stayed 4 days at this nice place! It is very clean and quiet. We enjoyed the rest and relaxing time. The birds that come up each morning we feed cracked corn that was provided, it was awesome watching them. We grilled, played out outdoor game, built a fire and fished. We would definitely recommend this place and Dave and Jessica are awesome and will answer you right away with any questions you may have. 5-Star all the way! Thank you Dave and Jessica!

Cozy vacation home

When you step into this property, you can tell it is a home that is loved by its family. There was a lot of thoughtful attention to details that made our stay more enjoyable. The home was immaculate and smelled clean. The kitchen was well-equipped. Like the listing describes, the stairs to the upstairs sleeping area are very narrow and steep; however, there were other sleeping options on the ground floor; not a problem for us. The location was perfect for exploring the springs in the area. We enjoyed listening to the peepers in the evening and even saw a bear. The hosts were very responsive and friendly.

A True Floridian Getaway

We enjoyed a long weekend stay at this peaceful home. The hosts were very accommodating and communicative, whether via email or at the propertym with friendly notes and tips. The host was so kind in allowing us to bring our dog with us on our family trip. Property and home was clean and quiet. I noticed in other reviews comments being made about the neighborhood. While the host obviously doesn’t have any control over other neighbors upkeep, we didn’t feel like the neighborhood had any impact on our stay or safety in this quaint A-frame house. The kitchen was very accommodating with our meal preps during our stay. There was even some pantry staples on hand that we forgot to pack. But we always enjoy leaving behind extra items that we don’t take home with us as a gratitude. We also appreciated kindly emails from the host during our stay to check on us. Overall I feel like the property deserves five stars because of all the ways the host was accommodating. The only downside that didn’t really work for our family during our stay was the narrow staircase. Due to my husband and I being very tall and fluffy, and me having arthritis, the staircase posed some challenges. Especially at 4 AM when our dog needed to go outside and trying to go down the steep staircase sleepy-eyed and groggy. Thus, after that adventure we decided to enjoy the rest of our stay downstairs on the couches which were a nice supplement for the stairs experience. We really appreciated the extra features that the homeowner provided in the home to accommodate safety for the staircase; lighting, signage, and a landing door. The shower and shower curtain was a little bit small and short for us. But again we’re just tall people. After walking into the rental for the first time, the Budweiser pictures made more sense. Wonderful decorative feature. I would love to hear the story of how the homeowner was able to get such an awesome decor. Thanks again for a wonderful trip!

Family retreat

It was a wonderful stay. Between the wild life, and the location. My family and I looking forward to booking the place again, very soon. The host of this property is very good. They truly want you to be happy. I just can NOT say enough good things about this place. This was our first time booking with them too.

Very Quiet and Relaxing Stay

We really enjoyed the peaceful atmosphere and easy access to the lake. It was a treat to see some wildlife—two bears even walked through one evening, and we got to watch them safely from the large windows. Overall, it was a great stay. One note: the stairs to the upstairs area are very steep—almost vertical—so anyone with mobility concerns should keep that in mind.

This was my dream retirement experience . Nice cabin on the water where my son and I can drive our 4 wheelers from the cabin to the trails. Jessica and Dave are fantastic hosts. They were a quick message away to helping with all our needs. Can’t wait to go back for another trip.

Weekend getaway

Had a wonderful weekend at this fully stocked rustic little cabin. Kids loved catching minnows off the dock, roasting marshmallows in the fire pit and feeding the cranes who brought their 2 little babies. Great place to unplug for peace and quiet.

Short getaway from the city life

Cabin is adorable. Took long walks. Sandhills cranes visited us a lot. We feed them with the food that was provided by the owners. Watched a lot of movies. Very quiet and peaceful.

Why they chose this property

We have enjoyed the place for a little over 14 years. Only recently have we decided to share it with others.

Built in 1965, the original entrance was the center 2 steps leading into the dining room/kitchen area. Originally a hunting cabin with few creature comforts, it also served for Sunday Bible meetings. The wooden folding chair next to the TV is a remnant from that time.
