We stayed at the lake house Thanksgiving week to visit with family in the area. Luckily, the weather was perfect. The house was clean, comfortable, and well-supplied. Although it is surrounded by other houses, it feels very private. The absolute star of the property is the view. The spacious kitchen/living area is all glass (with drapes) giving a panoramic view of the water, wildlife, and gorgeous sunsets. We all agreed that we'd happily book this again. As questions arose, the owner was quick to respond and always helpful. I must caution that this is not a good property for very young children or anyone with significant mobility issues. There are a number of steps, open railings, and no grab bars in tubs or showers.
we were only there for 3 nights out of 7 nights because nothing in the house worked and the pictures on here are not what you see in person. Felt like we were staying at a motel 6. I would never stay there again and he keep my deposit and calmed we broke stuff and I told him to send me proof because he has cameras ever where.

The guests damaged 2 interior doors. When they attempted to fix 1, they caused more damage to the paint and left black grease on the area. There was also 1 bar stool chair damaged beyond repair.
Aside from damages, the guests broke into 2 locked areas, tried stealing 1 registration tag from the pier, and had issues with trash can management.
The longtime property manager and cleaners had never seen the property left so dirty by guests.
Naturally, the damage deposit was withheld due to the damaged doors and bar stool. We also have video proof that the guests did a full-stay at the property and did not leave early.
We enjoyed this property so much! The house is very clean and comfortable! The outdoor space is simply amazing! The views from the house and the deck are gorgeous and the pier is a great place to sit back, relax and fish for hours!

Fishing for hours is definitely one of the highlights at this place. I'm so happy that you were able to experience the tranquility and get some great fishing. We hope to host you again soon!
Wonderful host, the house has all you need in its own quirky, fun way. Love the extra guest room with separate bathroom across the driveway, good for separate but together feel for multiple families or couples. Host was so gracious with his time and communication on everything! Really wonderful stay and the views and lake access could not have been better!

We live in NC & came to the Houston area, to visit our family. We loved the house & the view is amazing! The neighborhood is quiet & relaxing. There was plenty of room to have our family come over, for meals & fishing together. We hope to stay there again!

We're happy you enjoyed the waterfront views. We hope to host you again.
Lots of room for everyone. Boat lift makes life easy for getting back in quick from time out on the water. The water in the cove where the house is located is very smooth.

So glad you were able to use the recently upgraded boat lift. You're right, the water is smooth in Indian Shores. It is protected from the daily South winds coming from the Gulf. I look forward to hosting you again.
The view was lovely and the area was peaceful. We did some fishing and caught a few fish. The house was clean and had everything we needed. You will love this property!

Happy you enjoyed our Lake House. We enjoyed hosting you.
We greatly enjoyed this property and our stay. The views of the lake are wonderful and despite many homes around us, it felt private and secluded. The property owner was great to work with and communication was excellent. It is clear he cares about each family having the perfect stay and was a wealth of information about the area. We even ended up extending our stay by a day. We hope to visit again soon!

So glad you enjoyed yourselves. We hope to host you again soon. The waterfront views are my favorite part of the property.
The house was right on the lake just like the pictures show. Steve and his property manager were easy to reach and responsive. We needed a few more towels and the property manager Charlene was quick to respond. She even brought us a hair dryer and shampoo.
We would definitely recommend this house .

Thanks for your excellent review. We love sharing the lake house. Glad you enjoyed it.
The property was amazing. It has a large barbeque grill which we utilized several times during our stay. The large driveway can accommodate several vehicles at once. Peaceful nights and beautiful days. The private dock provided shelter for us to fish on rainy days. Steve was nice and shared many tricks of the trade with my family. Only experienced a slight issue with the water heater during the stay.

Sounds like you had a great time at the Lake House. So exciting when the kids catch their first fish.
The property is five stars in our book! From the spacious lake house to the spectacular views and lake access for swimming and fishing, it's a perfect family gathering place. We loved the house with big picture windows overlooking the lake, but our favorite was the big gazebo with hanging lights. It has a porch swing, so you can look at the lake, plus seating for lots of people. The view - sunrises and sunsets - is fabulous. The owner and property manager were easy to work with and answered any questions promptly. It was a wonderful place for our family gathering!

I'm so glad you enjoyed your stay. It sounds like you were busy, golf, swimming, fishing, and family. Can't wait to host you again.
We spent a very relaxing week here. My kids (5yo and 8yo) caught their first fish and had a blast. We enjoyed the beautiful sunsets and peaceful mornings looking out over the lake. The house is well set up for great views from almost every room. Everything was nice and clean and ready to go. Steve was a great host and quick to provide answers to any questions as well as great tips for enjoying the lake, best fishing, etc. Appreciated the well equipped kitchen and the board games in the front room, as well as the smart TV for easy access to our streaming and music subscriptions. Would definitely visit again. Thanks for a great week!

We love hearing when kids catch their first fish at the lake house. Glad you enjoyed you stay. Thanks for the excellent review.
The house in Indian Shores was exactly what we needed for our overflow guests for a long summer weekend. Beds were comfortable and there was plenty of room for everyone. We had two families with young children staying in the house and the only unexpected issue was the location of the second master suite - it is actually in a separate building across the carport which is a bit awkward for those with young children. We made it work and it was not a showstopper - just something of which to be aware.

Happy that you enjoyed your stay. That outside room is the perfect place to sleep-in after rustling kiddos.
We loved the property but it had listed a hot tub which it doesn’t have and that was disappointing. The electrical was out on the gazebo so we couldn’t put a fan out there and that would have made it more enjoyable outside for the sunset. More fans would be a plus!
We never did figure out how to get the hot water to work in the kitchen.
Thanks to Steve for the information about pulling curtains in the afternoon, it does help.
We fell in love with this house. Very clean and amenities offered, it went beyond expectations. It is an open layout with windows all around. Beautiful views of the lake layer out in front of you. The owner landscaped so any views of other residents were instead plants and trees giving a secluded feel. Fishing off the dock or sipping your coffee in the gazebo. Rocking gentally in the swing as you watch the waves lap amd the sun set. It was perfection. Close enough to town for a run to the store, but far enough out there is no traffic to disrupt your peace of mind. Our time at the lakehouse will be one of those memories that will be looked upon fondly until we are able to visit again.
I strongly suggest if you are reading these reviews, look no further and book it. You will have a wonderful time.

Disliked: Location, listing accuracy
Underwhelming. If you have children or a large family or interracial, consider another location.
I thought the owner / I had good communication on bbq gatherings at the property.I should have went with my instincts when I noticed flying confederate flags and difficulty with checking in early, even after I offered to pay an additional night.
I have screenshots of our chats immediately after my booking clarifying a mini hs reunion (all successful college grads from U of H, A&M, and UT), with 4-5 families and a subsequent family bbq the following day.Given we were traveling such a far distance, from CA,we were trying to maximize our time w family & friends & keep the kiddos comfortable at the same time. And his replies saying thanks for the clarification and sounds fun, enjoy!
I had traveled via car w my mom and 2 toddlers,2 & 5. Since they did surprisingly better than expected,we arrived in the morning.I immediately contacted the #s in the vrbo listing & spoke to the prop mgr. The owner still contacted me in a scolding fashion after the prop mgr gave us the go ahead to enter.I explained to him & told him he could verify via cameras & he said he had already done so & it was okay. So I wondered why the grief but okay... he is willing to let us in early and minimize more travel with the tots so seems good!
2 days later, day of mini HS reunion, the prop mgr arrived to come into the home, as I was putting the 2 year old down to nap.My husband let her in since we had nothing to hide. All families except one couple had kids. 5 families, avg 2 parents/2 kids = 20 ppl minimum. But he seemed livid & asked if it was what we had previously discussed & agreed to.I said yes, and again, recommended he review the cameras or let the prop mgr come over. At that point, he stated she had already been over. I don’t get it, but again, he is the owner so trying to provide reassurance...No loud music. No one trashed the place. No one stayed over.
The next day, it unravels. We had less people over... for a bbq. My husband sets up the girls’ fishing poles for fishing that night. Then one of my nieces asks why there are cop cars out front!? What!? The owner was thinking of evicting us. He was basing on # of cars parked & neighbor inputs. Considering some of the neighbors had flags flying,I could see their concerns. That is the only concern they could have had.
Even the cops said they wouldn’t even be staying unless we were planning to be unorderly.
TLDR: vacation ruined. Homeless for several hours in Houston, pregnant and with two tots. Shades of color.

This tenant was evicted for breaking house rules 3 times. Naturally, their response will be unfavorable.
Regarding the inflammatory, racist remarks. If the tenant wanted to comment about the house rules or an amenity we offer, that was fine. To use a racist reference, is unfortunate. It is a throwback to another time and another place that I wish the tenant had thought twice about using. To infer there were racial motives behind their eviction is unfortunate. I support diversity across the spectrum. That is reflected in my rental history.
Prior to their stay, this tenant asked me if they could host (2) parties on the property. I responded, “The clubhouse would be best to host parties”, with the detailed response below.
"The property description says, ‘no parties’. Unfortunately, if you're having a party, this would NOT be the best venue. You can have the party at the waterfront clubhouse, 7 houses down the street.”
Also, before their stay, the tenant asked if an early check-in was possible. I told them a couple of hours early was possible, and then asked for clarification on what time they would be arriving.
I tried contacting the tenant (4) times to confirm their early arrival, leaving (2) voicemails and (2) text messages. Since guests were checking out the day before their arrival, we wanted to insure the property was ready in time for their early check-in. The tenant did not respond to me until they had arrived at the property – 10 hours early. This did not allow us to adequately prepare for the tenant’s arrival.
I accommodated the first request, in good faith, by allowing a very early check-in.
I accommodated the tenant a second time when they asked if they could host a family party with small children. I chose to accommodate this request based on personal experience. In my experience, the average family party lasts 2 - 4 hours and commences well before sundown. We agreed that the tenant could invite 4 additional family’s.
During that first party, the tenant hosted 7 additional family’s. That's almost double what we agreed to. The property manager went to the property and spoke to the tenant, reminding them that we agreed to 4 additional families. The tenant apologized for having additional people and assured me that this was the last party.
The next day the tenant threw a second party. That is when we chose to act. Officers described the party as having “between 30 and 40 people”. It was clear that the tenant was not interested in abiding by our signed rental polices, nor in keeping to our verbal agreement. It was a very difficult decision to make - one that I haven't had to make before. I chose to evict the tenant after the second violation of the "No Parties" rental agreement rule.
The Tenant" chose to have (2) parties in (2) days, along with checking-in (10) hours prior to the established check-in time. I feel that I gave the tenant a reasonable amount of opportunities (3) to abide by the signed rental agreement. Ultimately, they chose not to abide by the house rules.
This was a wonderful property for our family to gather and finally hold a memorial for our parents who passed away last year during Covid. The lake, the house, the amenities were all just perfect. The host is super communicative and helpful. Wildlife watching and incredible sunsets every evening made this a spectacular rental. Thank you for everything.
This large & beautiful home is planted on the side of a lake and has its own pier with great fishing. The sunrise/sunsets are spectacular. Nicely stocked place with all of the amenities, and chatting with the host about fishing was really helpful. We will absolutely be planning on a future visit :) Thanks!
Charlene and Steve were great in providing amazing experienced staying at this property. We enjoyed every aspect of this magical place. My brother in law and my husband enjoyed fishing right on the lake, captured memories to cherished. The views of the lake from the bedrooms, living room, kitchen and dining room was so beautiful. The serene feeling of watching the sunrise and sunset over the lake was breath taking. I will definitely be booking this magnificent place again! Thank you for the memories!
Our family really enjoyed our stay here. The property was very spacious and the interior was nice and clean. We really loved the large outside deck and patio. The house was equipped with everything we needed and Steve was very responsive and communicated with us to make sure we had everything and knew of all the things in the area to make our stay memorable.

About the host
Hosted by Steve Huskey
Having lived in 3 countries and traveled the world, I can appreciate this house as being special.
Why they chose this property
The sunsets last for 2 hours. Featured in Better Homes and Gardens, The Houstonian Magazine, and Coldwell Banker Real Estate as one of the Top Custom Homes with a View in Houston. The floor to ceiling windows offer panoramic views that are unmatched. Lake Houston is the drinking reservoir for Houston. As a result, there are virtually no boats on the lake. It really does feel like your own personal lake.
This was the very 1st house on Lake Houston and the 2nd pier on Lake Houston. My grandfather got the first choice of lots. He chose 2.5 lots with the best sunsets.
This house has been in my family since I was born. I have spent thousands of hours fishing this property and installing fish habitat.
What makes this property unique
The View! Floor to ceiling windows in the living room. Terrazzo floors and a deck that surrounds the house. The Gazebo is perfect for meals. The privacy of the lot, the lake, and the serenity pond all serve as anti-stress.
