About this property
Beautiful, family-friendly home in private wilderness setting
Brook View House is an ideal location to gather families or friends who want to visit the Adirondacks and Lake Placid region, take in the sights, experience nature at its best and then come home to a beautiful and comfortable house. It is spacious, with cathedral ceilings and large windows surrounding the open-plan living area, and yet incredibly cozy, especially with the heated floors and a roaring fire on a wintry night. With five main bedrooms and a sixth overflow room, the house can accommodate 12+ guests.
Brook View House is located in the town of Wilmington, just six miles from Whiteface Mountain Ski Area. It sits on the back corner of a wooded five-acre property that backs up on 60,000 acres of public New York State Wild Forest lands. New Bridge Brook runs by the house year round and offers beautiful views as well as the pleasant sounds of flowing water. There is plenty to explore in the woods behind the house, including a hiking/biking/skiing trail that you can access from the property and take for many miles to a pond and lean-to. Along with the wonderful wooded areas, there are also open grassy spaces for outdoor play, trails that wander around the property, an unheated garage and a fire pit with seating for large groups. Smooth roads with light traffic beckon cyclists, extensive trails nearby serve mountain bikers and trail runners, and local swimming options abound.
** FOR WINTER GUESTS: We highly recommend an all-wheel drive vehicle to come up the driveway!! We keep it plowed, but the winding uphill slope can be difficult in snowy conditions.**
The main entry takes you into the open living/dining area, with soaring cathedral ceiling, large windows, couches and a flagstone wood-burning fireplace. It includes two rectangular tables and twelve chairs that can be arranged in a variety of ways to accommodate your group. The dining area opens onto a deck with a gas grill, Adirondack chairs, a picnic tables for outdoor meals, and a view of the brook. The kitchen is large and well stocked with everything needed to prepare meals for a group. It has an island with a counter and four stools and a large pantry with plenty of space for all your food items, coolers, etc.
Down the hall on the main floor, you’ll find the bunkroom with two twin-sized bunkbeds, great for kids and adults alike, as well as another bedroom with a queen bed. There is a full bathroom, with shower and bathtub. The laundry room, which has a washer and drier for your use, also accommodates overflow sleepers with an extra set of bunks.
From the entryway, you can head upstairs to the library loft, which has couches and books, magazines, puzzles, and games to entertain your group after a long day of outdoor adventures or if the weather turns bad. This loft overlooks the living/dining room below, adding to the open feel of the main living area. Through the library loft, you enter the master suite, with high ceilings, large windows, a sitting area and a king-sized bed with memory-foam mattress. Grab a book or a cup of coffee, put your feet up and take in the sights and sounds of the brook below. The spacious master bath and its Jacuzzi tub look out at the Jay Mountain Wilderness beyond. Above the master bedroom is a lofted space that has been converted into a bouldering loft, where kids and adults can practice their climbing skills. Attached to the master suite is a small office for anyone who wants to work remotely during their time away.
From the main floor kitchen, you can go downstairs to the ground level daylight basement, where you will find the movie room, with comfortable couches and a collection of VHS and DVD movies for family movie nights or just a quiet afternoon. There are also more games and a piano (not in perfect tune, but still quite functional.) Adjoining the movie room is the play room, which has a ping-pong table as well as a collection of toys for younger children. Just past the movie room, there are two bedrooms: one with a queen bed and one with a full bed. There is a bathroom with shower between the two. The ground level has its own outside entrance, as well as a mudroom area with closets to hold your skis and boots, hiking gear, or whatever other equipment you will bring for your trip.
The house has a geothermal heating and air-conditioning system for comfort in all seasons. There is fiberoptic Wi-Fi internet at the house and a TV with a DVD player and VCR, a large collection of classic films to enjoy, and an HDMI cable to hook up a laptop for streaming purposes. There is no cable service.
If you have young children in your group, please let us know, as we have a variety of items (high chair, booster seat, gates, pack and play, etc.) that we are happy to provide for your use. The many toys, games, puzzles and books that you will find around the house will also help make younger guests feel at home.

About the host
Hosted by Hannah Morris

We purchased Brook View House as a home for our family. Having spent many years vacationing in the area and created many special memories (getting married, doing triathlons, teaching kids to ski) just down the road, we knew we wanted to find our own place in the Adirondacks. We fell in love with this house for the adventures it affords outdoors and the comforts inside. We travel from Connecticut for weekends and longer vacations, but when we cannot use the house, we enjoy sharing it with others who want to experience the area.
