Great Place

We really enjoyed our stay. The kitchen had everything we needed. Beds were comfortable. First floor gaming area was great for the grandkids. Back yard was very large and fenced in, great for the pup. I like the location. It's a pleasant walk to the beach, and also a pleasant walk to Duck's downtown area and the boardwalk. All around, a great place.

We chose this property because it is more adult centric as our party has mostly young couples as opposed to little kids needing bunkies. Well equipped TVs, we were able to stream all the games while we were down and not have to hunt down any bars. Very easy beach access and fabulous back yard and decking. Special appreciation for the mix of kitchenware that includes solid stainless knives that are easier to sterilize since we cooked more due to celiac in our group. BYO Tupperware tho, low stock. Shower heads are high enough for tall people, several in our group are at our about 6ft tall and could easily stand under every shower head with room to spare. Huge hot water tank allowed for several people to shower at once normally (without having to take 2-minute military showers). The only drawbacks, remember that this place is well loved and does have some imperfections, like it had a magnetic dartboard over a regular one but the magnets were broken (tile floor), so if you're that serious about darts bring your own. Loved having a main fridge in the kitchen and a second on the game room. Comfy beds, plenty of linens and extras in the closet (we didn't use, but were available). One minor issue with a clogged dryer hose, but the rental company was friendly and fast with response. Absolutely would rent again with this group if we do this trip again!

Great OBX week

The Sands was as advertised. The location was perfect and the house was clean and ready for us. Grandkids made good use of the pool and we all enjoyed the hot tub (I think it is leaking tho). Thanks for a great vacation.

The property was as expected from the description . We all had enough space to sleep and enjoy each other’s company . The kitchen had everything we needed for our meal prep and we enjoyed sitting together at the large dining room table . The exterior of the house needs some updating , The outdoor furniture by the pool is dated and dirty from age . The only other real issue we had was getting laundry washed and dried with outdated machines that dont work effectively . The maintenance company advised they were being replaced but didn't offer us a solution for our stay . The dryer took three cycles to dry towels . I would advise bringing at a minimum two extra beach towels for each person as you only get one large bath towel with the house per person and laundry takes a long time to complete . Outside of this we had a wonderful enjoyable week with our loved ones .

This property was in walking distance of so many things. The hot tub was great and the elevator proved so useful to my friend who needs a knee replacement. Great deck privacy from the main bedrooms. We would rent again

Awesome house for active family !

Great house and location! Thankful for the fenced in backyard since it is right off the main road but that would honestly be my only complaint. overall it had everything we could’ve asked for clean and a fun spot for a family with young kids for sure!

The Sands

We had a great week at The Sands. The house is laid out out well and has all of the toys one would want to keep everyone entertained. The kitchen is well stocked with all the necessary. The pool was a great relief, but could use a little TLC. Location to town is great and makes for a great walk.

Nice Home

Home was nice with a pvt bathroom for all. Management very responsive to an issue with a box spring. The only negative of the week was the initial ride up beach road to Duck which took nearly an hour and 30 to travel 4 miles.

Family Vacation

We loved the location. We could walk into town and boardwalk along the bay easily. The beach was just at the end of the block. We had a few issues that were addressed quickly with both housekeeping and maintenance. Be aware that there is no ramp at the beach entrance. We rented a cart and beach gear, but couldn't roll it onto beach.

This house could not of been more perfect for my family and dog! We had minor issues but they were there to address the situation as soon as I would call. This home had everything you need and you did NOT have to leave the house. The pool was the biggest hit for the kids, they never wanted to go to the beach!! I would recommend this property to anyone! FUN FOR ALL AGES!

Family vacation plus 3 2023

We had a great time! Little kids loved the skew Val table , air hockey and pool! There were lots of pool floats for young and old… short walk to the beach . We did park a vehicle at the beach a day or 2- 5 spots available for use. Wonderful communication with management before we arrived and taking care of issues while we were staying there. Kitchen was fully stocked with everything you could want for cooking or baking! Our group ate in every night and plenty of dishes and utensils for all 12 of us. We had nice hot summer weather and ocean temperatures just right!

Great location, great house and a great yard for the pets!

We started off a bit slow with some issues but they were quickly taken care of. Don't remember microwave installer but quick, efficient and respectful. Patrick did a great job with the two things he needed to fix. Could use him around my house! House is within walking distance to so many things including Duck Donuts!! Yard is huge and my two dogs loved running around in it. We were there during Hurricanes Sally and Teddy and a nor'easter but there was plenty to do inside and away from the house. Pool was nice and plenty of parking. Did I mention the kitchen had anything you could need? One of my favorite parts of this house was the decorations. The boats were wonderful! Third year for us to enjoy this house.

Review of The Sands Week of July 19th-July 26th

We enjoyed out vacation rental. It was well equipped. A few criticisms however were that the grass should have been cut. We had 2 dogs with us and at times difficult to pick up after them due to length of grass and made the yard unattractive. Also work needed to be done to the coupling around the skimmer. The fan on the first floor needs to be addressed. it was very noisy and could be heard in some of the 2nd floor bedrooms. Also the lights on the caps around the pool need new batteries. Only one light was functioning. These criticisms are not meant to take away from the quality of the house. It was nicely decorated. Also the elevator made bringing our supplies in very easy and as some guests were senior citizens it made life much easier for them.

Yearly Vacation

This house was comfortable and surprisingly not stinky due to being a pet friendly home. There are some stains on the carpet from inattentive pet owners. This house has everything you'll need to make meals and having all the games was a plus. The beach is at the end of the block and the town is close so having a bicycle is essential. I wish the light switches were labeled since there are so many but we managed. The elevator was great to have. The pool area needs some attention as there are weeds over growing, the neighbors trees encroach over the fence and the one tree by the pool needs to be trimmed so more sunlight can hit the pool. Even though it is situated next to Route 12, the traffic noise was not bad. Not related to the house but just a common knowledge tidbit for beach goers, don't park your chairs, tents etc at the entrance to the beach. That is inconsiderate and just rude. Also, checkout time was very early, maybe add an hour and make it 10am. That would help with teenagers that like to sleep in! Overall, great house, clean and comfortable.

Duck - The Sands

I am giving two stars for several reasons. First the 3rd floor bathroom has a leak and the second floor bedroom has a massive hole where water leaks through. Potential mold issue. Next, second floor bathtub fills up with water when showering as the drain is very slow/partially clogged. Water builds up to about ankle level after about 3-5mins of showering. Also, all the box springs are super squeaky, which leads to waking up every night if you switch positions. Further, the one side of the pool is sinking and the side walk around the pool is very steep leading to a tripping hazard especially with small children and handicapped guests. The grill flamed up on us upon arrival, but someone came out to remediate the next day which was nice but left us improvising for dinner the first night. Finally, the location being on the side of the main hwy lead to a high level of noise. For the price I felt overall the house was very dated and needed some immediate updates before I would consider staying again.

Side note

You can't park a trailer at the property due to community rules. Reach out to Storage King in Nags Head to rent a spot for the month at half the price the tourists traps charge. Talk to Barb th see manager. She's really nice and will make sure you're all set. She'll even take care of the cancelation paperwork so you can "just enjoy your vacation" (her words) Highly recommend!

Relax

Great house with large in ground pool, fenced yard for our furry buddies and plenty of gaming for a rainy day. Elevator is a super bonus!! Also, there is parking at the beach access (even though it's not a really long walk) I was happy to drive instead. Nice open floor plan with plenty of bathrooms. Worth the extra money. My only complaint is the pool lights didn't work and only one solar light on pool fence posts worked. Not a deal breaker as past renters left battery powered pool lights that worked fine for night swims. Would rent agqin!

Great time in Duck

Great location. A 5 minute walk to the beach entrance at the end of the road. Very close to town we rode bikes which we got with our credit into town. The house was perfect for our needs with the elevator and fenced yard. The walk-in showers were good for my 77 year old father in law. Sometimes house pictures don't tell the whole story but this was exactly as pictured. Really nice and bright on the inside. The bedrooms were big and the third floor common area was really nice. The only minor complaint I have would be no lights at the pool but we didn't really do any night swimming. I looked at a lot of different houses before picking this one and definitely made the right choice for us. Everyone in our group enjoyed the house.
