Breathtaking view

The home on Cape Newagen has breathtaking views that immediately capture you as you enter the home. When having coffee or eating a meal, we watched the lobstermen work and the boats come in and out. It is also conveniently located near a wonderful resturant. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Wonderful Family Getaway

We had a wonderful stay here during our spring break. Our family had plenty of space and we were quite comfortable. The house has one of the most spectacular views we’ve ever experienced at a rental while also having all of the amenities we needed to cook a few meals. Can’t wait to come again!

View is a 5 star, but house needs fresh eyes

The view is stunning from all locations. Outside second floor deck is great. Location is great…But the house needs a fresh pair of eyes to address a few issues. We traveled with family and a broad age range. The stairs are twisty and uneven depth- top few stairs did not have a hand railing and made it difficult for senior family members to use alone. Trash cans full to the brim on arrival and were not picked up during our stay. Weird smell in lower bed room , so we all slept upstairs. Dirty nail clippers left in silverware drawer. Felt like these issues should/could have been addressed before our check in and noticed by the cleaning crew prepping the house…having said all that again the view is amazing and enjoyed time with family.

Perfect!

This was a lovely getaway and we hope to return next year! The view is amazing and the deck is the icing on the cake. Good to know: Wifi and cell service are spotty. You'll want to bring your own water for cooking/drinking.

Any discussion of this property has to start with the view and location. The view is postcard-worthy. Lobster boats, an island, and a lighthouse make it look like the Maine Department of Tourism designed it! Southport Island is a perfect location. Quiet and forested with easy access to great food and activities. The Southport General Store is a national treasure! The house itself is perfectly nice. Very clean. Excellent kitchen. Tasteful decor. No AC but the ocean breeze through the windows kept it very comfortable. Indoor furniture is not fancy, but perfectly serviceable. Lots of nice touches such as many, many towels, shampoo & body wash dispensers, high quality hand soap.We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would visit again! That said, I have to dock them one star for the deck. The furniture there no longer looks anything like the picture. Wood has weathered badly and looks so disgusting that you don't feel comfortable touching it. Cushions have been replaced - but the current ones are dirty and stained. We only spent about 30 minutes up there in five days. Fortunately the living room has a wall of crystal clear glass with the same view and comfy chairs (and no wind, sun, or bugs) so we were happy. I realize that outdoor furniture when you are oceanside has challenges. If it were me I would use high quality wrought aluminum or composite furniture with a mesh sling.Nevertheless, we would highly recommend this home for a Maine vacation. We hated to leave.

People who give a 10/10 review for a home like this do a disservice to future renters. The only thing 10 about this property is the view. There were multiple major problems and the communication with both VRBO and Viscasa were problematic. The view is absolutely stunning, but the photos were very old. Most of the furniture on deck and living room were old and faded. The deck cushions were not stored in any way and so left out in the rain, which took days to dry during which we couldn’t enjoy the deck. Beds were hard and Linens scratchy. We had very little hot water, you had to turn it up all the way to get any at all and this reduced the pressure in the shower. Washing my thick hair was very difficult. When reporting this the answer was “as water is not mentioned as an amenity, this may be the reason there is less of it!”The sink upstairs did not drain and the bathtub did not hold water. When reporting this and the hot water again the reponse was “we have contacted our local team and they report no issues.” So I. Guess we imagined the whole thing! I finally got a call from Viscasa the day we left and they assured they would check it out.The glass ware was very old and cloudy and knives so dull they were dangerous. The view and location however were outstanding! The best we have ever had in 20 years of visiting the Maine coast. We had our very own lighthouse and island and loved watching the light change and wildlife and boat activity in the harbor.

Initial impression was not positive as we entered a hot, no air flow, musty and another unidentifiable bad smell. In fact the 1st floor bedroom was not usable. Your staging photos are nice, but the actual unit leaves a lot to be desired. Layout of house is not good, with steep, tight stairway, doors that can’t fully open, and old rusty fixtures throughout.

Enjoy the view

The house across the harbor was well restored after the horrible flood last year. Actress Margaret Hamilton from the Wizard of OZ who played the wicked witch of the west lived in that house.

Beautiful, view. Slice of Maine. Interior could be cleaner

Beautiful view. Slice of Maine. Should be cleaner. Bad smell in downstairs bedroom. Twisty stairs without hand railing on top steps are tricky and not for the elderly. Had a good visit with family.

Beautiful View does not make up for the condition of the home

People who give a 10/10 review on a property like this do a disservice to future renters. The view was a 10/10, but the house itself had several major issues. For one we had very little hot water. You had to turn it up to the highest level to get something close and this reduced the pressure such that washing my thick hair was out of the question. The bathtub did not hold water and the upstairs sink did not drain. The photos are very old. Couches and deck chairs very faded and worn. The glassware was pretty gross and knives so dull they were dangerous. The most frustrating thing was the crazy answers to our communications about the problems. When reporting the problem with hot water one answer was” we dont see water as an amenity, so that must be why there isn’t much!” Another was “ we have contacted our local team and they report no problems with the hot water or the sinks.” So I guess we imagined the whole thing. The plus is of course the view. This is the best we have ever had, we loved watching the changing light in the harbor and the cute lighthouse on the horizon. The house had binoculars which was a plus. With some updating and plumbing fixes this house would be a 10/10. As it stands now a generous 3.

A slice of heaven!

The location of this house and the view were spectacular! Ocean views are nice, but when you have islands and lighthouses and wharfs and boats in the harbor to look at ads a dimension not to be beat! The house was designed Face the view with almost total glass walls to look at it through. And then you have the upstairs porch and the upstairs deck and an outdoor sitting area to give you different advantage points. I can’t imagine a better view of the main coast! The house is great, very clean and very quiet neighborhood. Definitely recommend this especially for photographers and painters!

Perfectly Pleasant

They thought of everything, including binoculars. We watched seabirds and lobstermen working and didn't leave the house until late in the day for the Botanical Gardens. They only communicate through Vacasa, email, and text. Good communication, though. Final payment is through Vacasa.
