About this property
Starlit Skies, 1.5 miles to Black Sand Beach, Pet Friendly, Lava Fields, Private
A beautifully quaint house awaits as you explore rural Hawai'i and one of the world's most active volcanoes. Kehena beach is about a mile away where you can swim with wild dolphins, free dive and fish! Kaimu and Pahoa have groceries with a brand new shopping center. The open landscaping provides plentiful, tropical breezes. Uncle Robert's has live music, a bar, food and trinket vendors, dancing and fun for everyone. Dare to discover new tastes and equatorial fruits at local Farmer's Markets.
This studio home built in 2016 has all modern conveniences including the highest speed internet available via BAMF wireless, (about 100-40 mbps download, 15-1 mbps upload) washer/dryer, stove, oven, hot/cold triple filtered water from the catchment system typical in the area since there is no public water utility. Electricity is on grid. It is a clean and simple layout.
Nearby, enjoy rustic hikes through one-of-a-kind lowland tropical rainforests, or surf at the new lava-made Black Sand Beaches of Poho'iki and Kapoho. There are many active farmer’s markets all around. Sunday Funday drum circle and fire dancing at Kehena Beach and Seaview Lawn.
Visit the lava lake up in Volcano National Park, which may or may not be there at Hale Ma'uma'u and maybe you’ll experience one of Big Island’s many commonly occurring earthquakes. There’s even a vineyard nearby! The volcano may not be very active when you visit, so plan ahead!
Watch the sunset from Mauna Loa and explore the sinuous networks of lava tubes and caves that run for miles underneath the surface of the island.
Visit Waipio Valley and imagine the taro farmers of yore.
Be sure to understand your traveling regulations.
Kalapana Seaview Estates subdivision in the southeast district of Puna on the Big Island of Hawaii. Just minutes away from the black sand beach, Kehena, there are smoothie and fruit vendors that pop up on sunny days. Hikes along stark, black lava rock coast lines and lowland rainforests make this area unique. Many agricultural endeavors also go on in the area, worth exploring, including spear and reel fishing. Ecstatic Dancing is a popular happening in the area, as well as a variety of festivals.
Visit punarising (dot) com for some direction on local things to do like a chocolate or mushroom farm tours!
It is recommended that you rent a car at the airport in Hilo, though there is a bus that swings by at the front of the neighborhood. A bike is also a very pleasant way to travel... the red road, or highway 130, is no longer red but is a beautiful road to bike along. The roads are somewhat narrow and winding around the area.
Also, Hawaii charges a 13.25% Transient Accommodation Tax and 4.712% General Excise Tax. This should already be reflected in your payment breakdown.

About the host
Hosted by Jacob Turner

I am the property manager. I built my own house just down the road from this one. I lived in it during the volcano eruption of 2018. The sky was red at night for 3.5 months and you could see and hear the volcano every night. It was wild!
