About this property

Next available date, March 17, 2022

Small but mighty! This 450 square foot cottage with its heart pine vaulted ceiling and its 12 by 24 foot porch has a surprisingly spacious feel and is loaded with country charm. Located on the back of our five acre country property, the cottage offers a safe, quiet environment for your stay in Central Florida. The cities of Mount Dora and Eustis are both just five miles away with their quaint shopping areas and lakeside parks. Orlando with its theme parks, ocean beaches and the gulf coast are all easily accessed .

Originally built in 1941 for use as a milk barn, the cottage has recently been completely rebuilt and reinvented as a vacation rental. A great deal of thought and effort has gone into the design and use of the available space. The use of a drop leaf table and folding chairs for interior dining and a queen size Murphy bed for sleeping, gives the central living space and open, uncluttered feel. A comfortable couch, end tables, recliner, and entertainment center with flat screen tv complete the main living area. Bright colorful accessories and decor have been used through the cottage

The kitchen has everything you need for meal preparation. The granite counter tops and tile back splash make clean up easy, The under counter cabinets contain several drawers as well as shelf space. Wall mounted shelves house a microwave, pots and pans and dishes. A stove, refrigerator and double sink complete the kitchen A coffee pot, toaster, can opener and other kitchen essentials are provided.

The bathroom may be compact but it contains all the necessities plus a lot more. Besides the toilet, vanity, medicine cabinet and shower, the bathroom contains a stack washer and dryer, a three drawer cabinet with a granite top for folding clothes, a shelf for laundry supplies, a bar for hanging clothes and a seven foot tall pantry cabinet for linens or food storage.

The porch is what makes this a very special property. The hand crafted rustic railings, the wing and rockers, the antique dining table and the colorful artwork all work together to create an outdoor living space that is both welcoming and comfortable.

Adorable renovated Milk Barn!!!
This cottage was a perfect place to stay for my travel nursing assignment! Close enough to downtown Mount Dora, but still in the country. Quiet, clean and safe! The owners, Jim and Beth are steps away in the main house and are kind, welcoming and make you feel at home while away!

A gem in Eustis! Perfect location, private, peaceful, relaxing all the amenities you could ask for. And Beth, Jim and Kathy the most wonderful attentive hosts. Can't wait to come back!

Country Quiet
Charming cottage. The porch is perfect for morning coffee or afternoon cocktails. A feeling of being off by yourself in the woods, yet the hosts were close at hand.

Why they chose this property

This property was perfect for us as it had two houses, one for my mother-in-law and one for my husband, 16 year old daughter, and myself. Our house was built in 1924. As I unpacked china in dining room, I felt like the house had been waiting for me all those years. The first changes we made to the property were to add a large woodworking shop to the existing garage and spacious porches on the front of both houses. In 2002 we converted the basement of the back house into a garden style apartment. (VRBO # 437984) and when my mother-in-law passed away in 2007, we began to rent the rest of the house also. It wasn't until 2013 that we switched from long term rentals to vacation rentals.
The Milk Barn was built in 1941 for the original owners cow. We used it for wood storage for many years. In 2017 we started renovating it and turning it into a rental cottage. We finally finished in 2019. It has been rented almost constantly since we started in March of 2019. I asked one guest what made the "Milk Barn" appealing to them...the price, the pet friendliness, the location or its physical charm and style...and they replied, all of the above!
