We couldn't ask for a better place to stay. The house was absolutely perfect. The neighborhood is quiet and so peaceful. The view is absolutely gorgeous!!! I couldn't ask for anything better and can't wait to go back again!
Beautiful house, with everything that you need. We had a wonderful time, really enjoyed the lake view. Absolutely an awesome place to visit, spend time and create memories.
Enjoyed our stay. The cabin was very homey and in a quiet location. It was perfect for the two of us but would definitely work for a bigger family. It was a short drive to visit Marquette, a great day trip to plan. Munising had a nice downtown also. We love visiting the UP and now know of a great place to stay.
We stayed at this nice place and enjoyed the beautiful view of Lake Powell and appreciated the use of the paddle boat and small rowboat. My son caught a 16” small mouth bass. Location is convenient to travel up to Munising.
We had a phenomenal time here! The lake is so beautiful and there were plenty of great hiking trails nearby. I saw some previous comments about the cabin needing a deep clean. We found it to be fine. It’s a cabin, not 5 star accommodation. It has everything we needed and was comfortable. The beds were actually very nice. Our dogs had the time of their lives.
I recently had the pleasure of staying at Powell Shores Lodge and it was an absolutely delightful experience. The lodge is conveniently located, making it easy to get to and just a short drive from Munising. The view of Powell Lake is simply breathtaking and adds a serene backdrop to the entire stay.
Although cellular coverage wasn't the best, the lodge's high-speed internet more than makes up for it. Whether you're looking to relax by the lake or explore the nearby attractions, Powell Shores Lodge provides the perfect base. Highly recommended for anyone seeking a peaceful and enjoyable getaway!
Todd, the owner, was fantastic. It was a rustic experience, a real escape from city life. Gorgeous lake and area. If you're after luxury though, this is not it.
The house was cozy and comfortable especially the beds. The lighting in the kitchen could be better.Todd was real responsive and nice. The directions to the house are a little off .There is no Holiday gas station, its a circle K.
We loved our stay at this cabin by the lake! Close enough to town if you need anything, and yet very much away from everything. The time we spent there was very relaxing (sunrises over the lake, sitting by the fire, cooking, teen/college age liked the loft). The stars at night were beautiful. Enjoyed quiet walks. Beds were comfy and great views from the living room and back deck! The lake was still frozen and it was so pretty this time of year. The host was extremely helpful and responded quickly to a couple of questions about weather and activities-very descriptive answers. Lots of great info at the cabin about things to do locally. Great location for outdoor activities at Pictured Rock National Lakeshore, local beaches, waterfalls, and not too far away from Marquette (Black Rocks at Presque Isle). 5/5 for a great stay, had everything we needed. Very well represented in pics and descriptions. Would definitely go back:)
We wanted a comfortable cabin to relax away from crowds and COVID, yet close enough to the amenities of Munising... this was a perfect fit! We cooked most meals on site in the well-equipped kitchen, kayaked the beautiful lake each day, and even caught a bass or two right off the dock. It was hot, but the provided box and window fans kept it bearable.
Internet and streaming services were a nice touch when relaxing. Todd was very responsive to our questions when we had them before our stay, and made sure our kayaks were ready and waiting when we got there. Overall a very positive experience!
Great location, beautiful lake & everything you need
We loved this cabin. Check in was very easy. Powell Lake was beautiful and quiet. Todd was easy to get ahold of when we had a question. The location is perfect for getting around in Munising and surrounding areas. Our bed was really comfortable. The living room felt very cozy. The access to the lake was perfect. We really appreciated having a washer and dryer. The kitchen had everything we needed. The only reason I didn't give this five stars is because I had to wash some dishes and utensils before I used them. With that being said, it was a wonderful place, and I would recommend to friends and definitely consider staying again. Thank you again for having us.
Property reminded me of “up north” resorts I stayed at with my family as a child. Everything was clean and orderly upon our arrival. We only used the first floor, but the beds were comfortable. Plenty of room. WiFi and whatever the service was for television was every bit as good as home. We ate most dinners and all breakfasts at the cabin. Everything we needed, other than the food itself, was in the cupboards. Todd was responsive and helpful when we needed him, which we really didn’t after day one. He was also very kind with his communications. We spent one day kayaking and fishing on Lake Powell. The lake was quiet. We caught a lot of fish. Nothing too big, but plenty of action. The rest of our time was exploring a dozen+ waterfalls, hiking in national and state parks, and visiting Mackinac Island (amazing). We got, at least our feet wet, in three Great Lakes and many waterfalls. If you can’t have a blast here, you’re not trying. Thanks, Todd!

Could have been awesome
The propery is on a great spot but there is a trailor being set up about 35ft from the bedroom window. We caught 3 massive small mouth bass and countless sun fish from the dock.
Unfortunately the rental was not very clean and the inside and outside is in need of maintenance.
First thing we noticed was the ceiling above electric heating stove has water damage and part of the ceiling was on the floor.
Then there was dust on the head boards and end tables in bedrooms (adsurd amount on headboards).
The stove top had grease splatters, counters was dirty and some of the table chair cushions have large crusted food spots.
There was multiple dead bees upstairs and a spider in the shower.
The outside is in need of some safety upgrades as the stairs to the dock are dry rotted railroad ties with wobbling piipes for hand rails and the vegetation is over grown the walk way.
The row boat did not have the drain plug and one of the paddles didnt last many rows before snapping and leaving us in a tough spot.
Everytjing seemed to be old and worn except for the wifi and camera(s) on the property that was not in the ad nor was i informed the propery had hard wired camera(s).
I sent 3 emails and 1 text message about the above issues with NO response back.
For just under 1k for 3 nights I would atleast expect the curtesy of a response.

Where to Begin?
We’ll begin with the good. Powell Lake is a clean, quiet location offering seclusion, nature and water sports close to Munising, Pictured Rocks and other U.P. attractions. Owner Todd was kind and responsive to inquiries. This being said, our stay was not what we expected based on the listing, the reviews given or the lodge’s website. It is understood that the U.P. has different standards than much of the country, and that this is a fishing cottage and snowmobiler’s hangout. However, there is no way that the property delivered a 5-star experience. The 4.5 star “cleanliness rating” is the most baffling to us. We found cobwebs and dust everywhere, and we had to wash all the bath towels in hot water and hyper-dry them to kill the mildewy smell in all of them. We literally found dirty dishes in the cupboards. We cannot understand where the glowing reviews came from. There apparently has been a serious and damaging rise in the lake level, as the advertised beach and firepit are under four feet of water, as is the former dock (there is a “new” dock sagging into the water which is usable). Obviously, the level of the lake is beyond the owner’s control, however, amending the listing is not, and it constitutes truth in advertising. An honest listing would mention that some features are unavailable this year, due to lake levels, as we have seen other VRBO owners do with Lake Michigan rentals. Even IF the listing was not amended, it would be common courtesy to inform a potential renter of the differences in the rental in real time vs. the listing. There were a multitude of other issues, but we don’t want to go on and on because the point here is not to berate someone who is trying to make his property work for him. However, given our disappointment, we don’t want anyone else to be misled (intentionally or unintentionally), so we’re being honest for the sake of future customers.
Our family had a wonderful stay at the Powell Shores Lodge! The view of the lake is phenomenal and was our favorite part. The owner was very responsive and was happy to give us all the great recommendations in the area. Will definitely be visiting again!
Overall I was pleased with my stay. The fire pit area could use some new chairs and it needs a little outdoor love such as hand railing and landscape. The inside was cozy and clean. The view of the lake was beautiful. I would definitely stay there again
This property is a wonderful place to get away with the ones you love and relax. If you are looking for a five-star resort atmosphere this is not the place for you. If you are looking for a great, clear/clean private lake to fish, swim and kayak/boat on without a lot of boat traffic, offering comfortable but not fancy amenities you will be thrilled. Being a nature nut who loves to explore, Munising is one of my favorite places in all of the world. It's natural beauty is pure and picturesque. The beaches on Lake Superior rival any I've visited in the tropics on a warm, black fly free day. Pictured rocks hiking trails, and other area trails, are unparalleled with breathe taking beauty. Powell Shores is an awesome home base for your UP exploration.
We really enjoyed easy access to the spring-fed, crystal clear lake. This was the first time we rented a house in the UP with great internet access. It was very close to Munising and communicating with Todd always got a quick response.
We loved our time at Powell Shores. Todd was great and was very easy to communicate with. The place was clean and cozy. Away from the hustle and bustle of the city, Powell Shores provided a relaxing getaway for a few snowy nights. The cabin was 15 minutes outside of Munising, a quaint town on Lake Superior. We found trails to ski and hike in the snow that were close by and enjoyed being a little more secluded. Can’t wait to spend some more time in the UP and at Powell Shores!
We had a wonderful time at Powell Shores! We came at a perfect time in the Fall, the leaves were at their peak! Todd was very responsive and checked in with us to see if we needed anything on the day of arrival. He also set out kayaks for us and we got good use out of the cabin's rowboat. He even had life jackets for the kids! We went to all the popular falls in Munising and also did the Pictured Rocks Boat Tour. The private lake , however, was the favorite of our trip. Not only were the views right out of the living room window but we enjoyed it's tranquility, stillness and quiet. At night, we enjoyed looking at the stars against a backdrop of pitch blackness. We made good memories here:)
Cute and cozy cabin! Just what we were looking for to get away (: Loved being on the water with the picture window to see it every morning. Super close to munising, so many nature walks, waterfalls, and exploring to do! Our GPS took us on a two track trail (legit) when we first were on our way to the cabin but there's another route that's an actual road! Just double check gps!
Cabin has nice privacy, a fire pit, a dock (a bit crooked but totally functional!) A canoe and rowboat, washer and dryer with access outside and downstairs. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay!
We had an excellent time. There was so much to see and enjoy at the property, as well as in the surrounding area. The lake was wonderful. We loved having access to boating/water crafts. Quiet, private, & cozy retreat. There was so much space. Our family of 5 could really spread out. Glad for lots of seating indoors and outdoors too. So great that there were info pamphlets on the area at the lodge. The beaches near by were amazing too. Loved hiking to many waterfalls. Overall a great experience!
The "Lodge" is in a wonderful location to visit the many attractions around Munising. Owner provided good directions and instructions for TV, Gas Fireplace, etc. Plenty of supplies to last us for our 3 night stay. One of the very few area cabins to offer larger than full size beds. The queen we used was very comfortable. What a pleasure to wake up each morning, turn on the gas fireplace, and enjoy a beautiful lake view. The living room chairs/couches were comfy. Powell Shores Lodge will always hold a special place in our vacation memories.
House was nice and clean. It was very peaceful. Close to everything we wanted to do. Close enough to get essentials. Fishing was good considering all the rain. Had everything we needed.
