What a great find!

We booked last minute for a quick trip to explore New River Gorge NP and staying here was one of our favorite parts. Loved the porches, the view, the quiet and privacy and the sound of the birds. The cabin was very clean and well stocked and Tina was a wonderful host. We had lots of hikes and exploring planned but always came back early just to spend more time on that porch. Lovely place!

The perfect get-a-way

We stayed here while attending the WV State Fair. The stay was perfect. The host was great with communication! The cabin is peaceful and serene. It was a quiet get-a-way from the hustle and bustle of the fair. We are already planning a trip back!

weekend getaway

Property well maintained. Had everything we needed. Enjoyed the firepit (plenty of wood supplied). Beautiful views. Saw a couple of deer near the parking area Friday evening. I especially liked the master bedroom and upstairs shower. Loved all the interior woodwork and design of the cabin. Also appreciated the seclusion and privacy.

Outstanding Property in a Beautiful Location

We stayed in Tina's cabin for a few nights. It was very quiet and extremely clean! The view from the porch is great! The property owner, Tina, went above and beyond when our car battery died and she helped us to get the car started. The bed we slept in (the King sized bed) was very comfortable. If we come to West Virginia again, we will definitely stay here.

Great value!

Here’s another glowing review for this property and the owners. We really appreciated having the linens supplied by the owners as this was one less thing for us to pack. The king and queen beds were comfy. We came to the area for rafting so most of our time at the cabin was in the evenings. We thoroughly enjoyed the wonderful fire pit. We will be staying here again and have already booked a return stay for this year’s Fall Gauley rafting.

Perfect getaway

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Sugar Camp. It's a wonderful location if you are just looking to enjoy nature for a few days, or want to explore the New River Gorge National Park, Lewisburg, and the Greenbrier Valley. The cabin and its property are well-maintained, stocked, and furnished. We appreciated the hard work, thought, and care that was put into the place. The owners communicated well with us. We enjoyed sitting on the deck and watching the cows, turkeys, deer, and other critters. You won't be disappointed!

No traffic noise

We had a lovely time at this cozy and peaceful cabin. The property is gorgeous and it is very secluded. My kids were amazed at the lack of traffic noise and the view from the top of the hill that the cabin sits on. I saw a large cat during my morning coffee on the porch one morning! The cabin is comfortable and had everything we needed. The owners are very friendly and helpful. We would plan our days before we left and arrange to spend our days at parks, doing various hikes and adventures around New River Gorge, since the cabin is a drive from most of the trails. We would definitely stay again!

Country paradise

Tina and Ed have a beautiful home and breath taking country scenery. Tina even texted me that the place was ready the day before so I didn't have to wait for a 4:00 checkin. We picked up groceries and dropped them off in the morning and spent our afternoon hiking. Then in the evening we had a bonfire, perfect way to end the day.

New National Park.

Tina and Ed’s “Sugar Camp” was everything we would want in a mountain camp had we built one ourselves! First off Tina is a wonderful hostess, has all the answers to any question that may arise. Her husband Ed is a gentleman and hearing some family stories of the area made our stay even friendlier. The Camp is down right gorgeous! Wide deck surrounds two sides, and the view down to the valley is breathtaking in the early am mist with a cup of coffee... at night around a fire looking at millions of stars in the sky dropping down to tens of thousands fireflies in the fields below. The camp had everything you needed, perfectly stocked and immaculate!!!Sugar Camp is a perfect getaway, close to everything The new park offers, and great little towns for dinner and exploring.

Beautiful cabin to escape to for quiet

The cabin is nice, super clean, and fully stocked with anything we might have needed. It is situated on top of a mountain and the ride up there wasn't too bad or steep. We enjoyed the beautiful view from the top. There are some homes to look out on, but it was a bit in the distance and we didn't hear too much except maybe a dog barking a couple of times. Other than that, we truly felt that we could relax in the quiet. We enjoyed visiting Lewisburg, White Sulphur Springs, and just driving around the back roads to see what the area is like. Last but not least, the hosts were quick to help out with a light that we had questions about, and were very kind and accommodating in general. You can tell that they care for their cabin, and that they want to make it special for visitors. Thank you, Tina & Ed!

Best vacation rental we've ever had!!

We booked to stay here with friends while our husbands golfed and we went to the WV State Fair. Unfortunately at plans fell through. But we kept the reservation and Road our Harley. I would caution only a seasoned rider should try going up the gravel driveway to the cabin. My husbands parent said joined us a few days later. We fell in love with the cabin. The location is beautiful and the amenities are far beyond any rental we have stayed. We had all ththe fixings for s'mores, spices, farm fresh eggs, homemade jelly, and all manner of cookware. My motherinlaw makes jelly but enjoyed what was in the fridge so much she bought all 3 jars on ther h counter that were for sale. We used the small charcoal grill to do hamburgers one evening and my husband liked it so well he ordere a grill like it as soon as we got home. We enjoyed Belgium waffles with homemade jelly an also with the fresh syrup in th fridge from the waffle maker there. We set out by the fire pit or on the porch and wanted to stay forever. We missed getting to meet Tima or Ed but know from the wonderful touches all through their cabin that they are incredible people. We definitely plan to return again. I will share a great tip. We were concerned about finding the cabin since it is in a rural area with several turns (but still very close to I64) so we found the address for the church located right before the road the cabin is on and our GPS took us right to the church and we only had one right turn, went about a mile and then up the driveway to the cabin. It worked perfectly. The church address is: 1397 Snake Run Road, Alderson, WV 24910 and our Garmin routed right to it. Tina and Ed, Thanks so ,UHC for allowing us to stay in your rental. We loved everything about it!! Not one negative thing to say!!

About the host

Host profile image
My husband Ed and I live on a working farm at the foot of Keeney Mt in Grassy Meadows, WV. Road name changes and 911 address changes have us with an Alderson mailing address, making it really fun for the UPS and FedEx drivers. I even had trouble listing our cabin on Keeney Mt Rd; the map would not recognize the location. When my husband told me our road was forever called Ford Hollow Road, I plugged the name in and it came right up!
Ed is the full-time farmer. I work as a USDA Consumer Safety Inspector with a local patrol assignment. Every spare minute I have though is used to be outside helping with the animals and farm chores. Ed along with a cousin or two, would spend summers here as kids helping his grandpa in the hay. In 1979, at 20 yrs old he moved here to be with his grandpa. I am from this area, raised on a dairy farm, and graduated from the local high school. I received my B.S. in Ag. Business from WVU in 1987. I have three grown boys of my own, all out working and making me proud! Eddie has a daughter just out of college and headed out on her own. We both love this way of life; although sometimes heartbreaking and back breaking, we wouldn't change a thing.

Why they chose this property

You know the quote from the Kevin Costner movie, Field of Dreams, (I think this is how it goes), "If you build it they will come".

What makes this property unique

We offer a quiet and simple get away in the country with the best of access right off the interstate. When things slowdown in the late fall and winter months we can offer one-night stays for people traveling through the area, if the request will go through the site, try that first, if not contact us directly!!
