About this property

Charming country home in Roxbury

Charming country retreat located in the beautiful northwest corner of the Litchfield hills in bucolic Roxbury, CT. Roxbury is famous for historic sights and architecture and rural ambience. It has been the home of great figures in art and literature including famed playwright Arthur Miller and his wife Marilyn Monroe, artist and sculptor Alexander Calder and noted author Frank McCourt as well as many other contemporary artists and celebrities who still live there today. Roxbury and the surrounding areas also boast excellent hiking and pristine lakes and rivers, which are perfect for boating and kayaking as well as fine restaurants and taverns, art galleries and cultural events. The house is a cozy 2,500 sq ft 3 level home with 3 bedrooms and 2.5 baths on 3 acres of wooded property with manicured landscaping and mature trees. The house has a well equipped kitchen with top appliances, 2 king size beds and one queen, central air, a stone fireplace, high ceilings, wooden plank floors and floor to ceiling windows that look out over the woods and a small stream. The patio has a teak dining table that seats 8, a gas grill and hammock for an afternoon snooze in the shade.

Lovely Roxbury Retreat

My husband and I stayed at this charming home for the month of July 2024. The house is beautiful and well suited for additional guests (main floor primary with bath, two separate bedrooms and bath upstairs). The kitchen is bright with a wonderful window seat for enjoying morning coffee. The back wall of windows on the main floor provides a wonderful view of the forest beyond. The highlight of this property, however, are the amazing grounds. Stunning! The extensive landscaping and curated flower beds are so beautiful. We made many wonderful memories on the side patio where we enjoyed most evening meals. The owners are very responsive - no issues with check-in or check-out. Communication was a breeze. Great central location near restaurants, shopping, festivals, galleries, recreation. We hope to return again in the future.

Great retreat for our group of 6

As a group of 3 couples, we enjoyed our stay here. You’ll find lots of well-appointed common areas and small nooks throughout the home. We particularly enjoyed the amply stocked kitchen and furnished patio - complete with a fire pit that can be assembled as long as you’re off the grass. Spacious finished basement with a media system and plenty of puzzles/board games. The master bedroom on the first floor is your best bet with its en-suite bathroom, doors that open to the yard and a TV. The two bedrooms upstairs are adjacent and connected by double doors so don’t serve well for complete privacy, but the shared bathroom does have a nice soaking tub. The couple own an adorable bulldog whose likeness you’ll find throughout. But that also means pet hair and some odors, so not best for anyone with pet allergies. The host was very responsive and forgiving of our lagging checkout. All in all a great home base if you want to stay in or explore the number of parks and preserves in the area!
