The communication was pretty seamless starting with the booking process and beyond. The host was very prompt when responding. The layout of the Hawk was super efficient given the square footage, so it felt plenty roomy. We thought it was a great place, and enjoyed the rustic nature of the setting. Very quiet. Comfortable bed. Just enough amenities, while keeping with the rustic feel. The property was pictured with a deck, which we learned was removed for safety reasons. Certainly not a deal breaker. They did replace it for the time being with a ground level patio area.Bottom line is that I would stay there again, and hope to in the future.

We really enjoyed our stay at The Hawk. The cabin was clean and cozy. Having the fireplace ready to be lit after a long drive was much appreciated. Carl was very responsive when we reached out and it’s clear they truly care about their cabins. If you’re looking for a cozy and quiet spot on the North Shore, North Country Cottages is exactly that!

Perfect spot for an end-of-winter getaway

We loved our stay. It was the perfect location for our Easter ski trip to Lutsen. Quiet woods getaway just down the road from the ski resort and easy access to Grand Marais to enjoy that locale as well.

Great location to explore the North Shore. Cozy cottage, good place to slow down and explore the beautiful area. We loved the fireplace (they make it so easy to enjoy).

Annual stay

We have been coming for the last 4 years with our dogs and love our stay. It is close to everything and feels removed enough as well. Quiet, beautiful fire place. Well maintained and cozy.

Great North Shore getaway

The Hawk is a fantastic little cabin on the north shore on a quiet road with the sound of the lake in the background. As a heads up, the cabin is much smaller than the pictures seem to show, and the front porch no longer exists, but otherwise it was clean and comfortable! We will certainly be looking to come back soon!

Beautiful Weekend at the Hawk

We had such a lovely weekend staying in the Hawk cabin. Everything was perfectly clean and even better than described. The hosts are so kind and had very quick and helpful communication. We loved the quiet location that was close to so many trails!

We moved here from Chicago in 2013 looking to settle down in the North Woods and start a family. Our love of nature was a driving force. We were always trying to vacate the big city for camping and hiking excursions, so we decided that before we tried for children it would be great to put down roots somewhere very outdoor focused, so that our hopeful children would grow up surround by nature.

Danielle was born and raised in Minnesota and couldn’t wait to get back “home.” Spending time on the North Shore from the time she was 2, it always held a special place in her heart. Carl was born and raised in Ohio, but fell in love with the area on a visit in 2012.

We got married on the shore of Lake Superior shortly after moving here, bought our first home two years later, and were happy to welcome our first child in to the world in 2016! It’s been an incredible journey since we moved to the North Woods and the opportunity to become business owners has just added to the adventure.

We are so grateful to call these cottages ours, and will continue to put our time and efforts into improving on what is already here and so lovely.
