About this property
Ashgrove--Farm and Gardens on the Ocean
A delightful location on Penobscot Bay, five-minutes drive from Camden, with its picturesque harbor, full of sailboats from around the world and its own schooner fleet. Trail heads, accessing Camden Hills State Park, are just a few minutes away. Views from the high points in the park are renowned for their extraordinary beauty and expansiveness, inspiring artists and poets for generations.
Surrounded by woods and fields, with a path to our private ocean shore, our deliciously cozy apartment is perfect for couples of all ages. It is situated in five acres of woods with several hundred feet of shoreline and is located about 100 feet from the main house. A footpath leads to the shore with views of the islands and passing sailboats, and where wind and tide bring sometimes subtle, sometimes dramatic changes, from day to day.
Guests may stroll through our organically certified vegetable garden nearby, where vegetables are free for the picking!

Very cozy apartment on the coast. Clean and well kept. Had everything we needed. Close to the cute town of Camden with nice shops. A not to far drive to Acadia. Host was very attentive and left us helpful local suggestions. Very much enjoyed our stay!
Very nice, comfortable, affordable apartment over outbuilding. Place had everything we needed. Cute and tidy. Bright with windows and light. Owners on-site were accessible and agreeable. Great shore path to rocky beach, with seating and views.
We had a wonderful stay at Ashgrove Farm!! Lucy and John were fabulous and attentive to our needs! Very nice people! The apartment was perfect for me and my husband. The location is central to Belfast, Lincolnville, and Camden which we enjoyed going to…great places to visit and shop! I would definitely recommend staying at Ashgrove Farms!!
We visited for our 20th anniversary and had a great time! Things were cozy and comfortable. We especially enjoyed the back porch and the private beach! We had everything we needed and more.
A thoughtfully-designed second-floor apartment with woodland path to private pebble beach. Beautifully decorated, comfortable furniture, functional appliances, well-stocked with amenities, games and books, and very conscientious, attentive, and friendly hosts. Especially appreciated thorough written information about the apartment and area, and quick response to any questions that arose.
I’m not even kidding you, the apartment above the garage is lovely, very clean, great kitchen, small bathroom, basically all you need or could want. However, The walk down to the private beach and the private rocky beach itself is breathtaking, completely, and totally worth the price of the admittance. We had a fire on the beach every night and it was amazing. We could not possibly be any happier, hated to leave! Thanks again.
Lucy and John’s apartment has everything you need, and then there’s the beach! What a special place. I got up to watch the sunrise there many mornings.
Lucy and John are wonderful hosts, attentive and friendly but respectful of privacy. They provide a great list of insider things to do, too. I’m so glad to have met them. And John even drops off veggies!
Lincolnville is a perfect location to explore the mid coast of Maine; even Acadia NP is just a 90 minutes drive, very doable for the day. Easy distance to Camden/Camden Hills, Rockland, Belfast. Lots of hiking, swimming, paddling. Megunticook Lake is a charm. Recommend!

Wonderful hosts; Convenient but private; Peaceful setting.
We really enjoyed our stay at the Ashgrove above-garage apartment! The open design was fine for us; windows across the living area wall gave an airy feel, with nearby trees and a view to a field. The steps to the apartment entrance are somewhat steep, but we had no trouble with them. The bathroom is small, with a small wash sink in the adjoining room, along with a day bed there. It was unusual, but we adapted to it okay. That bed became the platform for our suitcases to lay, for easy access to clothes, etc. The queen bed was very comfy for us, even tho' I'm hard to please, spoiled by our Tempurpedic adjustable. We couldn't really take advantage of free produce Lucy kindly offered from their farm because we ate out almost all the time. Another time, we might plan some meals in, but the seafood is so good in the area, we eat all we can stand while we are there. I am confident we would stay at Ashgrove again in the cooler seasons. (Though most locals tend to think AC is rarely needed, we don't do well without it, so we wait till September, when odds are better that even with too-warm days, the nights will be cool enough to cool the space down with open windows. We had no trouble here on this visit, even though it did get a little warmer than average. Fans are provided, and we did use them some.) We didn't stay around the place that much because we stayed on the go a lot, but we definitely enjoyed sitting on the deck drinking coffee or eating a bite, and we walked down to their private shore a couple times to watch the loons and ducks and enjoy the sounds of the waves lapping the rocks. Considering the very reasonable price of this rental, and the absolutely wonderful hosts in John and Lucy, we are very thankful to have found this rental, and we hope to return again!

Hi Dale –
Thank you for your kind words, and I am so glad that you really enjoyed yourselves. I have to apologize for not explaining that the heater in the wall next to the tuner is a heat pump and so provides either heat or AC as you need it— maybe next time! :)
This lovely, very well appointed apartment was a great base for our explorations and adventures in midcoast Maine. Access to the beach to greet the sunrise was a treat.
We stayed here for 5 nights at the end of an 18 day tour of Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine. Ashgrove Farm was the perfect ending for us. Our hosts, Lucy and John, were easy to communicate with, and we met them just as we left. Gracious hosts! Their place has easy access to all that the Camden area has to offer and yet the cabin is peaceful and secluded. We enjoyed the private beach, the deck overlooking the woods, it was all great!
Very respectable ,kind, helpful with unit, how thing's worked, place's to visit, very nice walk to water front, privacy is just so relaxing, very nice people!Enjoyed setting on deck in evening, quiet ,also all the Lobster we ate,ha,ha!Thank's guy's for a sharing your home with us,God Bless!
The apartment is very convenient to everything in Camden and Belfast you might like to visit. We greatly enjoyed sitting and walking along the shore and had a beautiful hike in Camden. Lucy was lovely and easy to communicate with.
We had an amazing stay here. The accommodations and hosts were more than we could have hoped for. We will definitely be returning next year for another stay
With a combination of woods and ocean, it was the PERFECT getaway for a couple in their 60's. The ocean-view was PERFECT, as were the HOSTS! THE place to detox from the world surrounding us. The carrots and beets were the best we have ever tasted.
The mostly open living space combined with lots of natural light was wonderful. The set-up is quite efficient. We enjoyed having the deck and our own private beach. The owners are friendly and easy to chat with. They go the extra mile to make your visit personalized!
This quiet little apt was a great find. Peaceful, quiet, comfy hidden setting near the sea. It has everything you need for cooking, relaxing and close to Camden and ferries, bike paths, hiking and more. Thank you both for your sweet hospitality.
This rental was perfect!! Great size for two people enjoying their honeymoon. The setting of the location is so calming and peaceful. Awesome location between towns so travel was minimal. Definitely recommend and would stay again! Huge thanks for John and Lucy!
We loved staying in Lucy and John’s place. It was so serene, close enough to the water on a great little path and close enough to both Lincolnville Beach and Camden for easy access. The rental was clean and had everything we needed. They were available for what we might need and welcomed us warmly when we arrived. It was a great getaway!
The apartment is spacious and open with plenty of counter space and is equipped with everything we needed for our 3 week stay. The deck looks out into the woods and is a perfect place to enjoy breakfast. The path to the water is very well maintained. We were lucky enough to see a double rainbow from the beach and enjoyed views at sunrise and sunset. John and Lucy were great. Would love to return for another extended stay!
From the beautifully cared-for woodsy path to the beach, to the friendly chalk board messages and texts reminding us to try the organic strawberries on the farm and check out the fireflies in the meadow, our stay with John and Lucy was nothing short of amazing.
There is a wonderful deck right outside where we shared many meals, read, and did yoga. The kitchen was simple but had everything we needed to cook. If we needed anything, our John and Lucy were quick to provide it.
Short walk to a wonderful coffee shop (Green Tree) and artisanal foods cafe / small shop (Dot's). We could easily walk into Lincolnville beach area and have a proper Maine seafood meal by the ocean, then walk home along the rocky beach. Short drives to great hikes (Camden Hills) and swimming spots (Fernald's Neck) in Camden.
Thank you, John and Lucy! You were wonderful hosts! We cannot wait to return.
