About this property

Oak Creek Retreat - Cozy Cabin by the River. Fish Hike Swim Pets OK

A Cabin that is steps to the river with Mountain Views and a back entrance into the most popular West Fork Trail in Sedona, AZ on the Oak Creek River. 20min to Flagstaff and 10 min to Slide Rock we are in the most perfect and sought after location. If you don't want to be stuck in the traffic of Sedona and get away from it all then consider making this amazing place, your next Arizona vacation.

This 3B/2B Cabin was built in a very special area to this red rock region which is secluded just outside the main congested city of Sedona. This is the area everyone comes to see and visit while they hike and fish and this cabin is perched 150yds above the river in the middle of it all. The amount of time you will save not having to drive while you circle the area for hours looking for a legal parking spots is priceless, especially when on vacation. Behind our two level cabin is the National Forest that provides all the privacy you need to relax and enjoy pitch black nights that smell of pine needles and wood burning stoves. With this seclusion does come some draw backs and that is snowing weather with rapid melts that swell the river and can at times, make our small private road that crosses over the river difficult. * Read below for all the details. 95% of the year there is no issues with accessing the cabin.

Comfortably sleeps 7 (4 adults/3 kids) Three bedrooms...Master King and bath with shower, 2nd queen bed and 3rd upstairs kids bedroom bunk bed with pullout trundle bed. 2nd bathroom on top level has a larger shower with a larger full size stack-able washer dryer. Large open living room with amazing canyon views and extra large balcony for outdoor eating, BBQ, lounging and sitting around the safe propane fireplace (no wood fires permitted due to fire hazards within the cabin) 3 cars max with three parking spots up on our parking pad. There is no parking anywhere else as you will block the road or our neighbors parking. The driveway is steep and can be a problem in the winter, not allowing you to park in the designated parking area. If there is snow or ice on Shady LN we require you to have real 4x4 This is a cabin tucked in a canyon with only a few other homes close by so we ask all guests to be mindful the road and parking.

There is a small country store down the road with a coffee shop and limited amenities. Although we have satellite internet (Starlink) which works great for internet browsing and emails it is not consistent enough to stream Netflix and other apps on a consistent basis. We have a large DVD collection and Direct TV DVR. We as owners enjoy the fact we have limited internet and can really unplug from the rest of the world and take a true vacation. Verizon and other major carriers have decent LTE coverage out on the front part of the cabin.

Weather issues explained in more detail:
There is a dry river crossing and short dirt road with a steep driveway access to the cabin for 95% of the yr that even a sports car can easily use but winter months can make access difficult. Let me repeat this may only happen a couple times a yr during extreme winter snows and flooding, this does not happen very often but when it does you need to understand this information below. The worst time is simply snow (3" or more) a few times in the winter which most 4x4's can handle with off road style tires but the real problem is if the driveway freezes and gets icy not allowing you to get up to the parking area. Then after the snow stops and is followed by warm weather or rain it can cause the river to flood. Best thing to do is book your stay around those winter months then reach out to us and we will advise you best we can if snow and floods are going to be a possible issue. Up to date weather info is only available 2 weeks out and not super accurate till days before. If weather prevents your stay we will refund you according to our refund policies. Two other things that can cause issues is if the state closes the main highway but, that is usually only during extreme weather and if they haven't plowed the road yet or second if the weather has been sever leading up to your reservation we still need time to get our cleaners in to clean after bad storms and it has been keeping them out. We will try our best to alert you of stormy weather but we cannot guarantee it. If it overflows or the road is closed while you are at the cabin you will not be able to drive out but there is always walking access out through West Fork parking/entrance by using a 1 mile long trail that is accessed at the end of shady lane via trail head which that has a very high bridge over the river. That trail might be muddy or snowy so I don't recommend it for elderly or small kids, but it is there and you can get out to the main highway. When I personally stay there and I feel like there is a chance that the river will rise on me I will sometimes park a vehicle at the West Fork Parking and leave a note for the rangers telling them not to tow and why I am parked there with my phone number. So I can walk out and have a vehicle. We will do everything we can to keep house open and available during those times.

Finally there is a septic tank so you must be conscious not to flush anything other than waste and septic safe toilet paper. Most cabins in this area have self contained sewer so we are one of a few that has the convenience an actual septic tank.
With all that said this is a special place despite it possible difficulties in the winter. You can fish along the river with a fishing license (rangers patrol and write large tickets if you don't have a lic) we just ask to be mindful of our neighbors, their private property and not to over fish the small creek. We practice catch and release with the browns and brook trout and when we want to keep fish we catch at Sedona Rainbow Trout Farm a few miles down the road. Very easy for everyone and guaranteed to catch trout for $. In late summer there are wild blackberries and crab apple trees which you can pick right around the house and all along the river. Pretty amazing to catch your dinner, pick fruit for desert pies and drink spring water collected only a few miles north.

Max 3 cars. Two cars is more do able but there is room for 3 if need be. There is no parking for any additional cars.

Propane tanks are available at the cabin and sometimes may be full, but refills are the responsibility of the guest and can be done at the Home Depot in Flagstaff or any gas stations that offer it.

Trash Cans must be strapped closed and there is an additional cleaning fee if renters negligence allows wildlife to shred open the trash and make a mess. it will happen trust me even if you leave open one night. The raccoons don't miss a meal...ever.

**Please note that we do have security cameras located outside at the property.

Nestled in the canyon
We loved our stay. This home is lovely inside, clean, warm, and cozy. Our kids loved it here, and enjoyed the creek. It was a mini adventure coming down the driveway! The creek gently flows over the passage to the property, very cool! Great location away from the bussiness of Sedona, but close enough to go to town for fun. Even has a heated toilet seat!!

Great spot
Great home with plenty of space for a family of 6 to 10. In the middle of Flagstaff and Sedona but closer to Sedona. Secluded enough for plenty of privacy and peace. Great place to visit.

Lovely stay with WiFi problems
The property was in great condition. The beds were very comfortable and cozy. The WiFi password was not listed correctly, and the host did not return our call when we checked in. We had some trouble with the light switches, but overall, we had a very nice stay and were able to walk over to the West Fork Trail

Retired Firefighter and was always my dream to own a cabin along this river I fished so often as a kid. This is my favorite location in all of Arizona. I know you won't be disappointed.

What makes this property unique

Fishing, hiking, picking wild fruit, laying in the hammock listening to the wind chime as you dose off for a nap and a short drive up to collect spring water are our favorite things to do. Plus unplugging from our digital connections to just laugh and tell stories with family and friend around the fire place and topped of watching scary movies at night.
