About this property

Modern Cabin on 41 Private Acres of Spruce and Pine Forest

Important! October-April reservations, 4WD or AWD with adequate snow tires or chains are REQUIRED October-April, and parking or abandoning your vehicle on the right of way is illegal in Park County.

While this house should meet the needs of many different types of travelers, we especially built it to be be friendly to families with children.

The open floor plan is designed to keep the living areas away from the sleeping areas and are separated by a pocket door and insulated interior walls so you can go to bed bed early or sleep in without hearing every sound your fellow travelers make in the common areas.

Come relax by the fire and enjoy looking out the many windows and being surrounded by nothing except trees, or maybe the occasional moose, deer or elk. Spend some time eating your meals around a large reclaimed wood table on the covered porch or crowding around the kitchen island while meals are prepared.

Each bathroom has heated toilet seats and the master bath has heated floors.

The guest bathroom is split into individual toilet, tub, and sink rooms to accommodate groups comfortably.

Each bedroom is outfitted with blackout cellular shades which block out the majority of the mountain sun when you'd rather not see it.

Two bedrooms have walk in closets large enough for portable crib or pack-n-play. Both a portable crib and pack-n-play are available for use.

The kitchen cabinets have child locks that can be easily engaged for your stay. Additional items for traveling with kids are available for you use, such as some additional child proofing items, a gate for around the fireplace hearth, a pressure baby gate, a free standing high chair, a booster/high chair, and a Summer Infant child's potty that is of simple design and easily cleaned and sanitized.

*Firewood is the responsibility of the guest but is sometimes available. (We split as much as we can but can't guarantee the supply during your stay.)

VEHICLE REQUIREMENTS: 4 wheel drive and snow tires are recommended year round and required October-April. Parking on the road is prohibited.
ROAD PLOW NOTE: The road is maintained and plowed by the county and no guarantees are made to when the roads will be plowed after a storm and can be effected by the severity and duration of the storm as well as the time of day that the storm arrives.
DRIVEWAY PLOW NOTE: We contract a plow company to plow the driveway after a storm where more than 4" of snow falls. The timing of the plow is not guaranteed and may be dependent on the county road plow and the plow company's ability to access our driveway. Please notify us if the wind has caused a snow drift the plow company may not be aware of.

This was the perfect get away! The cabin was very clean, updated, and they provided many amenities that made the stay easy. The owners were very easy to get a hold of and were very quick with their responses. They only thing that we really had any qualms about was the gravel road leading up to the cabin being very rough and bumpy but that's what you get with a mountain road. My husband and I loved staying here and are already planning to bring family with us next year. Thank you for giving us an amazing place to make memories!

The cabin was perfect for our late-summer family mountain getaway, and we enjoyed our stay, especially escaping the oppressive heat on the Front Range. The communication with the host from booking to checkout was consistent, timely, and appreciated. The cabin was very clean, and we enjoyed the modern, updated amenities it offered. Our favorite was the covered porch, as we spent a lot of time sitting out on it enjoying the cooler high-elevation breezes. We walked down the road from the cabin one evening and saw a moose and several deer in the nearby marsh area. While the cabin is very private and secluded, it is only 15 minutes to Fairplay and about 30-40 minutes to Breckenridge. The road up to the cabin is gravel and well maintained, but it is very washboarded. It is completely fine for normal-clearance vehicles. In winter and snowy conditions, 4WD/AWD and snow tires would definitely be a must.We look forward to the opportunity to stay here again.

The cabin was very serene, private, and well equipped. It was a little bit further off of the main road than we had anticipated. Easy check-in process.

Everything about our 5-day stay at the Mossy Moose Cabin was wonderful, but what truly stood out was the exceptional hospitality. The host (Bethany) was welcoming, attentive, and quick to respond to any needs. The place itself was lovely, and the thoughtfully provided amenities made the space comfortable and relaxing, truly enhancing the overall experience. Our only issue was adjusting to the altitude, but that was to be expected and in no way took away from how much we enjoyed our stay.

Beautiful, peaceful property about 30 minutes outside of Breckenridge. Very well appointed cabin with just about everything you need for a relaxing getaway. We saw a pretty good variety of wildlife around the property during our stay... Chatty squirrels, chipmunks and even a moose! Highly recommend this cabin!

Excellent property, well-organized and equipped. The layout of the cabin' (it is nicer than that) struck me as efficient, with 3 bedrooms and open-plan living room/kitchen all on one floor. Beautiful porch. Accessible with only a few stairs. Totally surrounded by forest. Great location for outdoor activities. Basic services available in nearby Fairplay.

Quiet relaxation among th pines

This is one of the cleanest, comfortable, well stocked cooking kitchens we have ever stayed. We thoroughly enjoyed the solitude in the pine tries and the deck is marvelous. It has plenty of room for 2 couples and their kids. Host is fantastic! Highly recommend.

Off the grid gem!

Bethany and Jon have an amazing place in the Mossy Moose Cabin. The cabin is spacious, sleeps many, has a great kitchen, and all the amenities you’d need as a guest. The location is off the grid and away from the hustle and bustle of Summit County. My friends and I enjoyed our stay here and plan on coming back again.

Beautiful cabin in the woods

The cabin was modern and well appointed . It had everything we needed for our stay and more . It was clean , check in and check out was seamless and communication was great . The location in Fairplay was perfect for the hiking we wanted to do and close to Alma and Breckenridge . We enjoyed the full kitchen and deck at the cabin with barbecue grill and also found a great dinner spot in Fairplay within 10 minutes from the cabin Millonzi"s . We enjoyed our short stay and hope to return in the near future .

Confirmed: Amazing

Great early June stress-free weekend. Owners thought of everything. The house and property are magnificent. Communication was great and the labeling placed around the clean and modern interior was very thoughtful. Very secluded and quiet but close to town. Also I really liked that there weren’t hummingbird feeders hung everywhere, because hummingbirds are mostly jerks.

Overall stay was amazing! If you’re looking to getaway from your Monday through Friday routine this is definitely the place you want to be. Or any occasion is suitable for this beautiful rental vacation hime. Kid friendly, slopes for the kids to snowboard, tubing, sledding , etc. Definitely wouldn’t go to the city vs been in your own place. We would definitely be rebooking for this year!

About the host

Hosted by Bethany and Jon Lefor

Host profile image

Bethany grew up in Colorado and after living in 4 different states moved back (hopefully for good) in 2010. Jon grew up in neighboring South Dakota but has called Colorado home for over 15 years. A most loved part of both of their childhoods was running around in the woods with their siblings and now their 4 kids get to have that same experience here when they visit.

Why they chose this property

This land and eventual cabin was a completion of their dream to be able to regularly bring the children who came into their lives through foster care into nature and to be refuge where they could recharge. They have since grown to a family of 6 and are grateful to be able to spend time here with the kids whom they are privileged to now call family.

What makes this property unique

Parcels of land this large, private, and densely wooded are so very rare in this area and they fell in love with it immediately. It's hard to believe it's less than 15 minutes from town because it feels worlds away. While they have seen moose, elk, and deer on the property, they are baffled that their guests always seem to have far better wildlife sightings then they ever have and usually right from the dining room window during breakfast.
