FIVE STAR EXPERIENCE NOW BOOKING FOR 2027!
Retreat to this lovely, spacious, unique stone cottage set in 5 quiet acres of woods, its dock on 2.5 km-long, spring-fed lake with herons, beavers, muskrats, otters, loons, elk and a lively group of vultures! The lodging is on the Monarch route, and is an amphibian haven, where other wildlife frequent.
This beautiful four-season chalet has all the modern considerations: dehumidifier, central air/heat pump, central vac, food fridge, beverage fridge, 2 double kitchen sinks, washer/dryer, wall oven (includes convection option), microwave, bread machine, waffle maker, stand mixer, air fryer. Indoors, there is both a handy wood stove and a beautiful fireplace with an insert and fan to circulate heat or cooling. Outdoors, there's a sunken potash kettle fire pit. Substantial outdoor seating is provided for the various areas, and on the covered porch there's a bbq (and, additionally, a smoker for aficionados!)
For anglers, the lake has rock and largemouth bass, perch, brown bullhead, pumpkinseed.
For indoor bonding, a plethora of games, dvds and puzzles will suit most tastes. Fairly extensive, eclectic library. Netflix.
Adventurous, determined sorts (with kayaks or canoes!) may venture up the beaver dam terraces at one end of the lake which leads to a small sister lake. Others may choose to swim Wadsworth's breadth to a lovely rock point (we recommend taking a spotter along in the pedal boat for safety).
2400 square feet. Sleeps 8. 3+1 bdm, as the main floor den has twin bed accommodation. The ground floor bedroom (queen-sized bed) combined with main floor bathroom makes this listing comfortable for those with minor mobility issues. The den is quite soundproof from the main house, suitable for isolating later/earlier activities, or light/late sleepers. Upstairs, one bedroom has a king-sized bed, the other has a queen-sized bed. In addition to air conditioning, all bedrooms and common areas have ceiling fans.
Wonderful, drinkable well water gushes from every tap, so the property is completely safe for children; this water is tested regularly, and has never failed. Please protect our environment; we encourage our guests to avoid using plastic water bottles.
Wadsworth Lake is a limestone-based lake, resulting in excellent water quality. A public boat launch is located on the south end of the lake just off Weslemkoon Lake Road.
Internet connection is via Starlink.
Absolutely NO PETS.
In these uncertain times, we are committed to the safety of our guests. Paul's Folly will be thoroughly cleaned and unoccupied for 24+ hours between bookings.

Total relaxation in a little slice of Ontario heaven. We had a wonderful family vacation at Paul's Folly. The cottage was incredibly spacious with all of the comforts of home in the most peaceful surrounding. Alyson and Paul are fabulous hosts who were quick to respond to any questions before and during our stay. If you're looking for a quiet getaway where the only thing on your schedule is to read, swim, nap, and maybe bake a loaf of bread, then this is the place for you :)
It was perfect. Lake was quiet and warm. Property is homely and well taken care of. We had a great relaxing time.
Thanks again for lending us your home.
The house was beautiful and clean. The kitchen had everything you need and pots and pans were in excellent shape.
The lake was a short walk down the driveway and down a very well maintained set of stairs and a very well maintained dock, where we swam and fished and used the peddle boat.
There is a big fire pit and lots of chairs.
Everyone had a great time.
We had a marvellous time at this cottage. Alyson couldn’t have been nicer. The cottage was epically stocked, comfortable and spotless. The only thing you may want to keep in mind is that is a less than 2 minute walk to the dock( we timed it), and it is not for those with mobility issues. It’s not treacherous or anything but someone unsure on their feet may find it difficult. The water is magnificent!!! So clean. Enjoy your stay!
Paul's folly is a beautiful property that is spotless and charming. The kitchen is designed for many cooks and has everything you could imagine needing including a bread maker!
The lake is across the road and is quiet and peaceful...with plenty of dock space for our boat and it stayed safely for the entire week.
Alyson was quick to respond to our questions and really helpful in planning for our time.
The beds are comfy and the cottage has space for busy, noisy games and quiet reading spaces.
The outdoor spaces (decks and fire pit) are well cared for.
This is a great space and we'd love to come back!
We enjoyed the spacious modern home. It slept all 6 of us comfortably and there was a lot of space inside and outside to chill out. We appreciated the many modern appliances. The access to the dock at the lake was close even with a steep walk. Lake water very refreshing. We had a few nights outside roasting sausages, hot dogs and s’mores with the nice sized fire pit with firewood provided. We took advantage of the St Ola store close by and going to Bancroft 25 mins away. Enjoyed the Bancroft shops, galleries and brewery. Eagles Roost was a nice hike in woods. Decent golfing at Marvel Rapids and West Highlands. Loved the Kiwartha Dairy even with half hour drive. Eagles roost was a nice stroll to various lookouts. We really enjoyed every minute of our time there.
We really enjoyed the beautiful surrounding trees and small animals. It was a beautiful natural setting with a very nicely equipped cottage. Very unique as it was more elegant than a cottage and having stone accents gave it that rustic Victorian touch. Very private and comfortable. Enjoyed the beautiful water and dock area. Traffic was not too busy but did have some drivers going to fast for cottage Country. Maybe have signs to slow down the traffic. Lots of great sitting areas to enjoy the surrounding ding nature. A very good spot! ❤️
Paul’s Folly was the perfect getaway we needed. The house was clean, comfortable, with plenty of space for everyone. The sound proof den was perfect for our kids, and the games, books, and puzzles on-hand were an added bonus. The kitchen was more than fully stocked - we didn’t need anything! We especially appreciated the stocked spice rack and staples cupboard (salt, sugar, flour, etc.) which meant we didn’t need to bring all of that with us.
The location is beautiful - nestled in the woods with a beautiful clearing, and the lake was beautiful.
Alyson and Paul were extremely communicative and helpful with the few questions we had. We definitely recommend Paul’s Folly if you’re looking to get out of the city and away from it all.
The cottage is very well equipped and had everything we needed. The two full washrooms, dishwasher and sound proof room were definite bonuses. The cottage is very private, quiet and spacious. Alyson, the host was great. She answered all our questions promptly. and added special touches like the cute stuffies arranged on the bed for our little ones The waterfront was very quiet and private. The swimming off the end of the dock was great with very few weeds. The kids enjoyed making sand castles on the small beach area. The only concern that I feel I should mention is the fence that runs along the side of the road on the way to the water. There is a guard rail fence with metal cords strung between posts that we had to step over. It is two feet high and would be challenging for people who have mobility issues or people who are short. I am 5 feet four inches tall and I was able to manage it. The children who are 3 and 4 years old were able to go under it. But all in all I highly recommend this cottage. We had a great holiday.
My partner and I stayed at Paul's Folly with our kid's (ages 9, 11, 16). I am so incredibly happy that I found this place. The house was spacious, clean, and fully stocked with everything we could need to enjoy our week. I enjoyed sitting out on the deck in the morning, looking out at the lake and watching the hummingbirds eat breakfast. We spent most of our time fishing of the dock, swimming, and paddling around on the lake. Getting to the lake is just a short walk down the driveway, across the street and down some wooden steps. Even though there's other house and docks around the lake it still felt private and secluded enough. Only the occasional boat passing by. Allison communicated with us the week before our trip, offering helpful tips of what to bring and things to do in the area. She welcomed us when we got in with a phone call and was quick to respond to any questions. It's clear that her and Paul put a lot of attention and care into this place and want people to find as much joy and peace there as their own family does. We even got to try the infamous Paul's Folly waffle maker and it did not disappoint!! *Pro tip* crush up some Oreos and put them into the waffle batter! The area is remote, not a ton in the immediate vicinity we did drive about an hour to enjoy a day at Bon Echo Park which was stunning. The only complaint I had was the mosquitos, which was expected, but if you are prone to bites COME PREPARED! Amazing stay. 12/10 would recommend!!
It would have been nice to be there in the summer so we could have made use of the lake but for the most part we were a bunch of oldies so might not have used it too much. We had so much rain. It was awful but we did have decent weather on the weekend and were able to have a fire and play guitars and sing so that was great - maybe not for the neighbors. The place was definitely well equipped and it was great that there were two bedrooms downstairs since we had some people who would have had a hard time climbing the stairs. Several people had some eyesight problems and found that the lighting , especially in the bathrooms could have been brighter.
We have not seen most of our family for a couple of years and I had lost a sister during that period so it was very nice to get together with everyone.
The property is very clearly well loved and maintained. Everything was clean and organized and labelled 🙂
Swimming at the dock was wonderful and we really enjoyed kayaking on the lake.
Back yard fire under the stars was exactly the thing we needed.
Owners were very quick to respond.
Would definitely recommend staying here.
Beautiful, spacious cottage with everything you need for a break. We loved the various outdoor seating areas which caught the sun at different times of the day. The dock was very well-maintained and we spent many days swimming in the clear lake. In short, a fantastic cottage that we would strongly recommend.
If you are looking for a very quiet, out of the way retreat to relax and enjoy games and cooking with your family, this place is perfect. Wonderful deck furniture, fireplace and fire pit in the back yard. A little piece of heaven! ... very, very quiet. Not too convenient for water sports or swimming but facilities are awesome.
We totally enjoyed our weeks stay. The most well stocked place we have rented so far! Nicely furnished, beds very comfortable, quiet lake, great for swimming. The cottage & weather was great, would highly recommend.
Location is great...on quiet little lake Wadsworth. Very nice cottage...excellent hosts. Extremely private and great spot for private fires. Only half hour to bancroft. We launched a 14 foot aluminum boat which was perfect for that lake...caught smallmouth 500 yards from dock plus small panfish from dock. We had a great time. Thank you Alyssa and Paul!
This stone cottage was very well appointed with virtually everything you need for a week away.
The owners pay very close attention to every detail. We were all very impressed.
Quality and quantity were top notch from bedding and towels supplied to furniture and appliances.
This would be an excellent location for a fall/winter getaway as well.
Thanks to Alyson and Paul for sharing their stone cottage with us.

This beautiful cottage on Lake Wadsworth had everything we needed for a fall getaway. The location is perfect; private, accessible and picturesque. Alyson and Paul provide all the small touches that will make your stay comfortable and memorable.
We truly felt like it was home. The space allows for entertaining both inside and out. We truly enjoyed our time there, the beauty of the area only enhanced our experience. We felt very cared for by the owners. The booking experience from start to finish was excellent. Would definitely do this again. Thanks for everything. Wayne and Brenda.
Completely pleasurable experience from beginning to end. Owners were fantastic to deal with and, if anything, the descriptions didn’t do the property justice.
Cottage was clean, well-equipped and extremely comfortable with lots of space for socializing. The property is quiet an private and well maintained. The dock is perfect for swimming and launching with the lake is clear and clean.
In hindsight, we should have stayed for longer. Would definitely go back again (and probably will!).
Wouldn’t change a thing. This cottage is a real gem.
Upon booking Alyson was prompt with communication. She was very polite and helpful with information. We stayed for 4 nights from August 12-16. We went with 6 adults and 2 children 3 & 5.
When we arrived it was obvious the property is very well kept and cared for. The view from the top was a perfect view of the lake. When we walked through the property we noticed the attention to detail. There was soap, after bite, bug spray, towels all the beds were freshly made... It was so nice to simply unpack and go relax. Everything we needed and more was there. The kitchen was stocked with anything you needed to make a good meal (minus the food itself).
The lake was across a road and did have a rather big hill. It took about 1 minute to get to the lake from the cottage. We enjoyed the little bit of work as we ate and drank more then we normally would. We had parents with us and they did not complain once about the walk. The road itself was not busy at all. We may have seen 5 - 10 vehicles a day go by. The lake offers a small beach front which my kids loved and the dock looked new with a nice swim up ladder. The water was clean and deep enough to do what ever you wanted off the front end of the dock. We brought our own 19 ft boat and tied it off to the doc every night. The lake was big enough to tube and water ski. * I would recommend talking to a local about hazards as the boat launch area is extremely shallow and full of big rocks.* But if you are careful it is doable.
We fished and caught some large mouth bass, pickerel and rock bass.
Overall the cottage is fantastic! The owners were lovely and very prompt with communication. We would recommend this cottage and stay here again without a doubt.
Thanks for the memories Alyson!
Allison made everything easy from the moment we booked. Paul's Folly is a perfect family get away and it had all the amenities we could think of. Everything was clearly labeled and accessable for use. The bedroom situation was excellent, and could have slept many more than the 7 we had. No complaints here, if you want to stay in a beautiful house with a lot of amenities, this is the place to come! Excellent large kitchen was perfect for our group that loves to cook.
Paul and Alyson are attentive and caring hosts. They responded very quickly to any questions before and during the stay.
The cottage itself is great. Spacious with 3 full bedrooms plus a den/Muskoka room with two twin beds, big deck and nice seating area and fire pit on the side of the house. Two full bathrooms. AC came in very handy with the heat.
Note the cottage does NOT have Internet available for guests to use (despite being listed as an amenity at the time of our booking). The cell service was reliable thankfully.
The lake is very pretty, warm and great for swimming. Note that the cottage is not directly on the water - you need to walk about 100m down the driveway and across a road (some traffic) to access the private dock/small beach.
We really enjoyed our week there and would consider staying again.
