About this property

3 Lower Farm, 2 bedroom Country cottage.

Described as ‘absolute bliss’ and ‘wonderfully peaceful’ by previous guests, our Character Farm Cottages offer true tranquillity near the village of Abbotsbury, a short drive from the seaside town of Weymouth and within walking distance of the stunning Jurassic Coast. We have seven self-catering cottages in total situated on our beautiful and extensive working dairy farm where we provide a wholesome family holiday experience rare in modern times. Our cottages are affordable but well-maintained and our service and hospitality are exceptional, described as ‘friendly and helpful’ with a ‘warm welcome’.

Our cottages are available for weekly holidays all year and for off-season short breaks. The properties are near some of Dorset’s most spectacular attractions and only a mile from Chesil Beach (Broadchurch territory!) which can be seen from most of the farm.

3 Lower Farm is a traditional 2 bedroom cottage with a large enclosed garden at the front and back. The bedrooms are arranged as a double in the master room and 3 singles in the second bedroom which also has a ensuite toilet and basin. 2 singles can be made into a double on request. The kitchen is very well equipped if you wish to eat in. In includes a dishwasher and a decent size farmhouse table which comfortably sits 5. The sitting room features a log fire and comfortable sofa and arm chairs to relax and enjoy a drink infront of the fire or enjoying a good movie on the TV/DVD. There is a downstairs bathroom with a bath and overhead shower, toilet and basin plus a heated towel rail.

The cottage is full of character features including wooded beams and inglenooks. There is a patio with table and chairs in the large south facing rear garden if you wish to enjoy outside dining or evening drinks. The garden is fenced off and enclosed if you have children or animals and there is plenty of parking space to the rear of the cottage. Wifi is included in the price and nearby there is a games room with table tennis and table football.
We try to stick to weekly breaks running Friday to Friday and short breaks out of season - a 3 night break running Friday to Monday and a 4 night break running Monday to Friday. However we can be flexible if you have different requirements.

Gorgeous

This was a very short notice few days away so we booked anything! But it turned out we booked a very special cottage in a beautiful location. I couldn't fault the cottage, clean, pretty inside and welcoming. We are going to come back sometime.

Character Farm Cottages is owned by my wife Jane and her parents Rob and Ann Mayo and have been in the self catering business for over 30 years. Many of our guests come several times a year and we now have 3rd generations of families enjoying our cottages! In addition Jane and Rob run the family farm which is mixed and consists of dairy, arable and beef. Many of our guests enjoy wandering the many footpaths on the farm, visiting the dairy and helping feed the young calves. I am a long haul pilot for British Airways and when at home, help out with the farm and keeping the cottages up together. I also keep our own website up and running and do all the bookings and correspondence.
We do hope you choose to visit and enjoy our wonderful part of West Dorset!

What makes this property unique

3 Lower Farm Cottage is situated on our working dairy farm on the outskirts of Langton Herring, a short distance away from the stunning Chesil Beach and Fleet Lagoon. The cottage is surrounded by open fields in which you are free to walk and join many public foot paths and indeed the Coastal Footpath runs very close to the cottage. 5 miles to the east is the seaside town of Weymouth which has a beautiful sandy beach and lovely safe and shallow water. 3 miles to the west is the village of Abbotsbury famous for its Swannery and Sub-tropical gardens. A little bit further on is the village of WestBay which was the location for the popular ITV series Broadchurch. Here you will find the stunning beach and cliffs which often formed the backdrop to the program.

The market town of Dorchester is a 15 minute drive away and is worth a visit, particularly to Brewery Square wucih is a new developement featuring an Odeon Cinema and many eating places such as Nandos, Pizza Express, Cotes, Zizzis and Waggamamas. Dorset is a fantastic place to explore and there are many country houses and gardens to visit. Also Monkey World, the Tank Museum at Bovingdon, Go Ape, Brenscombe Outdoor Center with its exhilarating high ropes and numerous beaches should keep all busy.
