★ Church House ★UNIQUE 2bd converted historic Wallace chapel, walk to everything
HISTORY & ARCHITECTURE: The Church House is a 2-bedroom vacation rental listed on the National Register of Historic Places in Wallace, Idaho. The building was originally a tiny chapel, built around 1905 to serve the local mining population. The main room features stained glass arched windows and vaulted barrel ceiling with a living area, long dining table, open kitchen, daybed reading nook, and old-time upright piano. Gorgeous!
SLEEPING ARRANGEMENTS: Two bedrooms flank the main room. The queen bedroom features French doors to the brick patio; the king bedroom features stained glass windows. Both rooms are cozy with comfy beds. There is a twin daybed in the living room. Additionally, there is a fold-out loveseat in the entry/vestibule area and a rollaway bed that can be placed anywhere (niether is great for Grandma or Grandpa, but ok for the kiddos!).
BATHROOM: One small but cute bathroom, located next to the Queen room, has a shower, no tub. Towels and toiletries provided.
LOCATION: Conveniently located across from the historic library right on the edge of the business core, it's a very easy walk to all the shops, restaurants, museums, tours, and pubs. It's also right across the way from the Couer D'Alene bike trail/river, and has easy highway access for the nearby Route of the Hiawatha bike trail, Lookout Pass Ski Resort, and Silver Mountain Ski Resort. It's super easy to find when you arrive, right on the main road into town. There's tons to do in Wallace, and staying at the Church House will put you in easy proximity to all of it.
AMENITIES: The full kitchen is quirky since it used to be a coffee shop, but it has all you'll need to cook a meal, including a full sized fridge and stove/oven, microwave, toaster oven, coffee maker and coffee, pots/pans, dishes, utensils, cooking oil and some spices, etc. It does only have one very small sink currently, and no dishwasher, so you might find it more convenient to eat out with lots of great options a very short walk away. There is also a washer and dryer that guests can use, and a cabinet full of board games -- plus a nice big table to play them on. The TV is on a rolling cart and can be moved to wherever you'd like to watch TV; it has an Amazon firestick for movies, shows, and music, plus a DVD player and a collection of DVDs. NEW in 2022: added a brand new furnace with central air conditioning! NEW in 2023: a gorgeous new shower!
EXTERIOR SPACES: There is no backyard but there is a nice large brick patio on the front/side, with table and chairs to enjoy a glass of wine or morning coffee with mountain/forest views and the sound of the river (and yes, the occasional semi passing by on the highway -- unfortunately). PARKING is available on the street just steps from the door. Bikers may bring expensive bikes into the house if they'd like; there's room in the entry area to park them.
SMOKING allowed outside away from all open doors and windows.
PETS allowed with a $15/nt. fee per pet. No pets allowed on furniture. No grass in yard for pets to do their business but across Fifth street theres a pet area that can be used.

Such a cute property! A great location as well-close to downtown. We were able to walk to dinner (70 year olds) with no problem. It was just as described and enough room for 4 adults and 2 children. We really enjoyed our stay!
This property was one of our favorites! Beautiful rooms with comfortable beds, clean well equipped bathroom. Kitchen had everything you could want to stay awhile! The history of the building has been maintained nicely! The courtyard was lovely for evening glass of wine and early morning coffee! We will definitely stay here again!
It is a great town and a great location. Walking distance to everything
Great location with night access to everything; stay there again for sure. Granted, there's a little road noise, but that's the same for the whole town if you know the towns history.
This was a great place for stay for families. It's located right in the center of town so made it easy to walk everywhere. It has a lovely little courtyard also.
We really enjoyed the unique Church House as we biked and did other activities in the area. Beds were comfortable and location was great for easy access to bike trails and seeing Wallace.
My family and I had a wonderful time staying at the Church House and the adorable town of Wallace, ID. The house was clean and met all of our needs. We received a discount at one of the local pubs and all the people we spoke to were very friendly. It was super close to Lookout pass where we went skiing as well. We truly hope to stay there again!
A friend from grad school and I met in Wallace as it was the halfway town between us. We had a fabulous time connecting and the Church House was just the perfect place! We loved Wallace!
We absolutely loved our short stay at the Church House! The space is full of character and charm—you can really feel the history in the architecture and design details throughout. It was such a unique and memorable place to stay.Good location —within walking distance of everything we wanted to see or do in Wallace. Really convenient for exploring the area! And can we talk about the shower? The water pressure was amazing—a small detail, but it made a big difference and was a nice surprise.Everything was clean and comfortable. We’d stay here again in a heartbeat and highly recommend it to anyone looking for something special!
We've always wanted to stay in Wallace and we've always wanted to own a church! This place was amazing. So well done (your collection of iconography is awesome!) and comfortable. The perfect reprieve from our soggy skiing.
Fun and eclectic property. We’ll stocked. Easy and convenient location for walking around Wallace. Had a great time. The kids loved the place.

About the host
Hosted by Barbara
We discovered Wallace on a ski trip and immediately fell in love with the town, the community, and the mountains. So much so that we decided to take early semi-retirement from our positions as business professors, sell our vacation rentals in Wrightwood, CA, and reinvest in Idaho. We currently have the Church House vacation rental, Cogs Pub, Spokehouse e-bike rentals, and Haberdashery antique shop, all in Wallace. We love it here!
Why they chose this property
I found this old converted church listed for sale on Facebook marketplace and bought it sight unseen! With its unique architecture, history, location, and charm, we're delighted we found it for sale. I always wanted to convert a church to living quarters, so this little chapel-turned-house was a dream come true.
What makes this property unique
The best "unique benefit" of the Wallace Church House rental is just that -- how unique it is! Italianate exterior architecture, vaulted barrel ceiling inside, arched stained glass windows that the sun streams in for your morning coffee, brick courtyard for enjoying a summer evening with a glass of wine and the sounds of the nearby river. It's a quaint little piece of history in a town that's known for its rich history.
Secondarily, it's location is super convenient. Very easy to find, and you can walk to everything! Also Wallace is a heavy partying town and you'll be just blocks away from Metals bar (live music, karaoke, pool table, always busy with locals), Silver Corner (award-winning cocktails), Wallace Corner (coffee shop by day, bar by night on the weekends), and others -- no need to risk a DUI when you're staying so close by. Party on!
Other benefits include amenities like the washer/dryer, moveable TV, place to park bikes inside, full kitchen, tons of games, comfy beds, and more! And you can even bring your fur baby on your getaway. :)
