We loved the location of the house. Beautiful views, nice deck. It was raining during our stay so we weren't able to enjoy grill or the deck. The location was good for our planned activities, leaf peeping. The host provided so much useful information which we really appreciated. We do not ski and were not there during that season, so we can't speak to that question. The cabin was clean enough. We would stay there again and we recommend the cabin.

Glad you had a good time, despite the rain! I replied to the note you left for my housekeeper on this site. Hopefully next time the French door lock will not be mysterious! And please do come again!
I was a solo traveler because my companion had to change plans, so I had the benefit of complete piece of mind at this place, and more room than I needed. It really is a beautiful place with a nice view. Very quiet and peaceful, it was a nice location to get away from the city. Only 4 minutes from Rock River, so that was a nice bonus. I'm looking forward to returning here in the future for sure
If you're looking to get away from it all then this is the place for you! Picturesque scenery. The nearby shops and markets were great, especially the farmers market. We would love to stay here again.

Quiet and comfortable
Stayed there with my wife and kids. We loved the view, the yard in front for the kids, the close proximity to rte 30 and the woodburing stove.
Would love to return any time of the year.

Great place for family vacation. We went swimming in the river, Bromley summer park, bike riding and BBQ at the home. WiFi and cell service worked well.

Thanks, Mathew! Always happy to have you and your family come for a visit!
While we only stayed for two nights and were out skiing for the day, it was a cozy place to come back to, get the wood stoves going, and relax. Nice secluded picturesque woodsy surroundings.
I also left a jacket there and it was promptly mailed to me once I let the host know.

Glad it worked for you, Mike, and glad we got the jacket straightened out. I hope you'll come again in some other season and see what else the area offers!
As usual, a lovely, peaceful stay in this delightful cottage. Rain drumming on the roof, woodfires, wild turkeys in the meadow dawn and dusk. Perfect.

Lovely to have you back once more, Michaela! As much as you enjoyed the rain drumming on the roof, I hope you'll come again with better weather! Glad to hear the turkeys are back!
Best to you!
Fine long weekend in Vermont. The only downside was the bedding. The master bedroom bed was very saggy and the loft bed was saggy with poor sheets. Otherwise very comfortable.

Hi Marshall,
Thanks for the feedback. It's hard to please everyone with mattresses. The primary bedroom has a very recently purchased Caspar memory foam mattress. It may be softer than you prefer and I'm sorry. The previous mattress pleased many, but some found it too hard. Go figure!
The loft mattress is similarly recent, but it is an innerspring. I'm sorry if you didn't find it to your liking. If you would, tell me what was the issue with the sheets. PM me if you like.
Glad you enjoyed everything else!
Jim
My second stay at this property, and just as magical as the first. Beautiful, well appointed house. We enjoyed the woodstoves, views, and glimpses of wild turkeys, deer, songbirds, and even a woodcock(!) that visited the meadow beyond the porch. Lovely, peaceful experience.

Beautiful cozy home in Newfane, VT
Our family had a wonderful time at this cozy VT home. We enjoyed the 2 wood burning fireplaces very much. The deck was terrific for watching the stars at night and just gazing over the ridge during the day. The kitchen was supplied with everything you need to prepare a meal. Nice quiet property. Jim, I think you need a new inflater for the air mattress. We were not able to blow that up, but we made do. The town of Newfane itself was small, but friendly. Brattleboro a short drive away was really cool. We loved our stay and plan on coming back!
Thank you, Jim

Extra costs (cleaning and required insurance) made it more expensive than it was worth
We rented the house as we were visiting family and the location was perfect. It's a nice house, but very plain with no real amenities (no tv in the living space, only one small tv in the downstairs bedroom but no cable or other service, only tiny soaps provided). All we did was sleep there so not a huge issue for us but others should be aware. We also rented the house because it seemed affordable, however there were several extra fees (cleaning, property damage and service) that added over $150. The mattresses were very soft so beware if you need one that's firm. It's VT so I know there are cobwebs, but after paying a cleaning fee I was surprised by how many there were inside. The yard and upper deck are gorgeous, and it is very peaceful and quiet just would've liked a few more creature comforts.

Hi Elizabeth.
Glad you loved the deck, the view, and the peace and quiet. I'm sorry that not everything was to your satisfaction.
First off, there is cable, provided by Southern Vermont Cable, and I've never had anyone have trouble with that. If it wasn't working properly, I wish you had contacted me to let me know. I can usually address problems of that sort very quickly.
The mattress in the master bedroom has a foam topper on it, placed there to make the bed softer. Not everyone likes a soft mattress, and I suppose you could have removed the topper for greater comfort. I'm sorry it wasn't to your liking.
Many guests have commented that they like the spare decor, without knick-knacks everywhere. I believe the amenities are suited to a Vermont country cottage. But those things are a matter of taste, I realize.
Thanks for the note about the cobwebs. It is Vermont, and the ceilings are 17 feet high in places. It can be difficult for my housekeeper to reach them. I'll tell her to be on the lookout.
Finally, the property damage and service fees are through VRBO, not me. Tax is required by the state, and again, I collect it, but I don't keep it. All of those would have applied to any Vermont property you'd rented through their system. I never see any of those funds. The cleaning fee of $50 is modest, I think, given the 3-story property. I understand that in combination with the VRBO and state fees, you were unhappy.
I hope your visit to the state was, by and large, a happy one.

Paradise in Vermont!
We just returned from our stay and I cannot wait to go back! Spent 2 nights with my husband and two kids (not long enough)! A true gem - which I’m reluctant to say because I’d like to selfishly keep this place a secret but after seeing the previous review (baffling!) I felt inclined to reveal the truth about this place. Away from it all & most relaxed I’ve been on a vacation probably ever! Clean, uncluttered, beautiful pine floors, large windows that boast the mountain view, very comfortable beds, fresh sheets and towels, no leaky showers (as mentioned in previous review..???....in fact water pressure and hot water was plentiful). Kitchen had everything we needed! Small fridge in kitchen with large fridge with freezer steps away on main floor. Loved the foyer when you walk in to store our 4 ski bags and wet boots! Open floor plan with views from every seat - also a wood stove in main living area which was awesome. There was an abundance of firewood just outside the door (which we were surprised we didn’t have to supply our own!) Enormous master bedroom with bathroom/wood stove downstairs. Upstairs loft also large enough it had a sitting area and plenty of room for our overnight bags. I am very picky about beds/pillows and these beds are so comfortable and clean! Our kids had a great time playing the board games and running around outside (huge backyard!). Absolutely beautiful location, away from it all, yet has the luxury of WiFi which kept us connected for work/etc. Jim (the owner) was so accommodating and responsive. We’ve rented for over 10 years in VT, NH and Cape Cod and this property is one of our favorites! Wish it was ours and we will be back! Thank you Jim for the lovely stay & hospitality! We love your VT home!

Thank you, Stacie! I'm so glad you were happy. And knowing you're already booked to return, I'm especially happy. I so appreciate your review!
This cabin was a very good choice for our 20-day visit to Vermont and the surrounding New England states. The location made visiting sites in New Hampshire, Massachusetts, New York, and of course Vermont so easy and convenient. We did them all. The host, Jim was very helpful, accommodating, and provided good information on local points of interest, despite living across the country (there is a local property manager just in case).
The cabin itself was very nice. It is quiet, safe, and remote (in a good way). We enjoyed the outdoor space nearly every night with beautiful views of the trees and mountains. Inside, the layout worked well for us. Although the kitchen is small, it is functional. The stove seemed underpowered but served the purpose. A mini fridge in the kitchen with a full sized fridge one floor down took some getting used to but worked. The living room was adequate although the sofa has seen some better days (hard, lumpy, and a bit uncomfortable). Note that there is no TV in the living area. The loft has comfortable seating which we enjoyed when we could not go outside. The bedroom was large and the bed more-or-less comfortable.
On the negative side, the cabin was among the dirtiest rentals we’ve come across in our 20 long-term rentals over the past 18 months. Fortunately, we were able to check in early because we needed that time (and most of the next day) for general cleaning and in particular, mold in the master bathroom shower and scrubbing cabinets, cookware, plates, and utensils in the kitchen. There was also mold in the washing machine rubber gasket seal that we tried and failed to get clean. In general, the place really needs a good “going over” to clean out the clutter, old kitchen pantry items, stuff in any and every drawer, and unexpected bathroom cabinet items such as partial containers of enemas and hemorrhoid cream (why would anyone leave these behind and why wouldn’t they be cleaned out before the next rental?). Fortunately for us, we come with cleaning supplies and the expectation that some cleaning will need to be done but in this instance it was simply too much not to mention.
In conclusion, the good aspects of this rental outweighed the cleanliness shortcomings. The location was simply perfect, and the cabin very nice once we cleaned it up. We would likely stay here again if we wanted to re-visit this area.

Thanks for your feedback. I'm glad your experience was positive and that you were able to overcome or overlook some of the things that didn't meet your expectations. No one has previously mentioned the gasket seal in the washer, for example, but I'll make a note to have it checked. The mattress in the master is a Casper queen that is only a year or so old. But I know that mattresses both harder or softer are a matter of personal preference, I'm glad you were comfortable enough.
The shower stall has copper seams rather than the grout you might expect. Over time, the little bit of water that may collect in corners turns the product a verdigris color that you may have seen as mold.
I agree that some items such as you describe might well be discarded by the previous guest who purchased them. And what is one guest's necessity may be another's "clutter," and it's hard to please everyone.
In general, if something isn't right, I'm always happy to hear about it from a guest in time to act. Whether an interim cleaning or some other remedy might be the case, I want to do what I can to make anyone's stay memorable in the best way.
So I'm glad your experience was positive. I will mention your concerns to my housekeeper, and I will happily welcome you back for another visit anytime!
Lovely, peaceful cabin; perfect for a rural retreat. Clean and charming, with a well appointed kitchen, cozy furnishings, and a magical view from the deck. Owner was awesome; gave tons of good tips on the area. Highly recommend!

Thanks, Michaela. We'd had a few "challenges" right before your arrival—a broken skylight crank 16 feet above the floor on the main level, for instance. And your positive experience was a welcome affirmation that all is once again well. I'm so glad you enjoyed your stay! Thanks again for choosing Ridgeview. I hope we'll see you again!
Perfect for our family looking for a place near the slopes yet close to the conveniences of Brattleboro. Communication is great and instructions are thorough. The heat was more than adequate even on the coldest of nights. Morning views are fantastic.
Wonderful views of fall leaves from deck and through windows! No doubt great in other seasons, but perfect in autumn! Well equipped and easy to get to.
Beautiful place surrounded by a beautiful location
Jim's place was perfect for 3 couples to stay while we attended a nearby wedding of our close friends. Beautiful house and everything we needed to feel comfortable and cozy. We all enjoyed coffee on the lovely deck each morning before each day's events nearby. Thank you!
