It's a wonderful cottage - stylish and comfortable - with a convenient location for exploring beautiful Lassen Park and other natural wonders nearby. The peaceful neighborhood and gorgeous forest right near the porch add to the charm. It's perfect in every way, and we keep coming back here!
We really enjoyed our stay at this house. We watched several deer and wild turkeys wander thru the back yard while relaxing on the cover patio. The kitchen is compact but well stocked. The owner was very responsive to questions. Would definitely stay here again!
Sweet little cottage with a huge wonderful view! The kitchen was perfect for our long weekend. The bed comfy, and the bathroom - heated floors! The carport kept the car from turning into an oven, and would be an asset in the snow season. Check-in instructions are clear., and the information binder helpful.
So enjoyed staying here. The wild turkeys and deer were wonderful to see. They came to visit every day. The cottage is small but has everything you need. Neighborhood very quiet and peaceful.
We especially enjoyed the quiet neighborhood. The porch has a wonderful view with lots of wildlife walking by. Beautiful bird song too. The room was perfect! Comfy bed well supplied and just a great place to relax.
We had a great time. The house was very clean, new and had everything we needed. It is bigger than it looks in pictures. The backyard was beautiful, deer walked by every day. Would definitely recommend!
We had a great 3 nights stay. Enjoyed a bon fire in the backyard and exploring the local beauty/sites. Very modern but cozy place, perfect for 2. Appreciated the immaculate cleanliness. Owners live across the street and were very friendly and accommodating when needed.

Mandy and her family were great guests! Welcome back any time!
This house is very clean and modern and in a quiet neighborhood. It is just a few minutes away from a fairly well stocked grocery store and gas station.
The owner is close and helpful and responded quickly when I had a question.
For just two or three people it is an ideal place to stay if you want to visit Lassen Park.
Absolutely lovely private cabin, very upscale, even larger and airier than expected, and well/equipped with everything you need.
Nestled in the forest with a stunning view of Mount Shasta, we loved our stay at this bright and beautiful cabin.
Covered parking, responsive host, gorgeous home, and oh that view.
Beautiful view of mountains. trees, and deer who were a constant presence. Comfortable lodging with many amenities. Informative notebook. Well-equipped and loved the heated bathroom floor. A most desirable cabin to enjoy.
Host was kind the cabin perfect!! Location was beautiful!! The pine needles around the cabin were very slippery we all fell several times. Be careful.

Sorry you had problems with the pine needles! We do try to keep them cleared away in the open area surrounding the cottage, but beyond that, in the wooded areas, there are definitely pine needles on the ground! Good to remind people to be aware of them. Thanks!
Beautiful little cottage with great views out the back. My son and I enjoyed our stay and did some photography including night star pictures. Highly recommend if you want a quiet stay. No television was a plus and a good reason to sit on the deck or by the fire pit.

I'm not sure why VRBO is telling me this host left me a review, and I also need to leave one. I cancelled this booking due to personal reasons, it had nothing to do with the home or owners. The owner communicated with me just fine.
We wanted to rent something small so it would be easier to "sanitize" due to the current pandemic- it was super clean, so we likely did not need to wipe everything with disinfectant wipes! It was perfect for my husband and 2 boys. It has a queen bed and futon and both were extremely comfortable. It is a beautiful modern cabin, in a very nice neighborhood, with high ceilings that make it feel very spacious. Loved the smell of pines and cedar! We enjoyed the fire pit in the backyard and it is only about a 20 minute drive to the entrance of Lassen Volcanic National Park. Nancy was a very gracious and friendly owner. Thank you!

Claudia and her family were a delight to have at the cottage. They were clean, quiet, and respected all our house rules. Claudia is welcome back any time!
This little house is a gem! My absolute favorite part was the back porch/patio. It was like a trip to the zoo watching the deer, turkeys, and other furry friends go about their evening explorations. What a great way to unwind at the end of the day!
The inside of the little cabin was just as nice! No TV was a little of a surprise, but certainly not a problem. Who needs TV with a view like that!? Everything we needed was provided in the kitchen and the beds were comfortable - even the futon.
The only issue was the extra cost of a mandatory insurance policy for $79 (for our two night stay) that was not mentioned until after the booking process. I would recommend putting this in the description so it doesn’t come as a surprise.
Thanks for allowing us to stay in your beautiful cabin! I will definitely recommend it to others! :)

Hi Heidi,
I am so glad you enjoyed the cottage and all our animal neighbors!
I am sorry that the insurance fee surprised you, as I understand that it is standard with VRBO I hadn't thought to let people know in advance. I can see that it would be an unwelcome surprise when you are booking if you aren't expecting it.
It was a pleasure to host you. I hope we'll see you back here again some day!
take care,
Nancy
The cottage has French Doors!! which brings an elegance that is merged with an open forest aesthetic, creating a balance between beauty and comfort. It feels lived-in and welcoming, but still impeccable. My husband and I were allowed to stay during the Quarantine having to check up on family in the area. Nancy is an incredible host that made herself available for recommendations on trails. Our privacy was respected and all in all the whole experience was much appreciated for having us. Their is no TV, so luckily I had my IPAD. For a minute I was worried, but to my surprise when I put on a movie we both felt their was no need to watch anything and left it off the remainder of the trip. The peaceful setting is what we needed. **No washer/dryer but Nancy does was loads for a little fee.

Thank you Natalie for your very kind words! Much appreciated!!!!!!!!
I LOVE this property! One bedroom cottage was perfect for our family of three. We have family in the area that we were visiting for the holiday. The home is clean, updated and beautifully decorated. The views are incredible. My son was over the moon to see the deer and turkeys wandering the property. Nancy was a kind and responsive host. We cannot wait until our next visit. Highly recommend a stay here!
The house is as described in the listing, new and luxurious. The owner communicates very well, friendly, and helpful. It is one of the best VRBO places we have stayed at.
The accommodation is very comfortable like staying in a luxury hotel plus more benefits such as your own kitchen with complete tools and equipments, a beautiful porch and a stunning view, a campfire site that we used almost every night (having a camp fire and star gazing), a visit from wild animals such as deers and turkeys every day, and a stay in a quiet forest. The bed is very comfortable. There is a futon bed that we didn’t use but is adequate for 2 more persons. It is not a big place but would be comfortable for a couple or a young family with 2 kids or 2 friends/family members traveling together.
We visited surrounding Lassen Volcano National Park(only 19 miles away) and Burney Falls(1 hour away). We came back to a serene and beautiful environment every day. It is a well worth every penny you will spend,
Amazing cottage with great design, views and privacy.
This cabin is beautiful in the inside and outside. The kitchen is very well-equipped for preparing meals. The view from the deck is lovely and private. It is a wonderful option for staying in the Lassen/Redding area.
We spent 3 days in the cabIn. It is not super big but it is just right for a couple. We loved having breakfast each morning on the porch. The view was amazing. And we saw lots of wildlife come through the property which was very cool. Nancy is a great host and really took care of us during our visit. We had a great relaxing time!

About the host
Hosted by Nancy Scott
Both natives to California, but having lived across the US and overseas, we discovered this beautiful corner of creation over 40 years ago while on a camping trip in Lassen Park and told ourselves "we want to live here some day"! We moved here 10 years ago. We enjoy mountain living ourselves and are eager to share this beautiful little-known area - so we bought a house right in our neighborhood to allow us to share it with you! We love to walk and ride bikes in the woods adjacent to our quiet little neighborhood, and enjoy Lassen Volcanic National Park and surrounding National Forest all year round for hiking, cross-country skiing, kayaking, bird-watching, wild-flower gazing, and more! We also love gathering with family and friends to fill our hearts and feed our souls.
Why they chose this property
Shasta Forest Cottage is a new little house in a quiet scenic neighborhood, just 2 miles from the little town of Shingletown, which provides all needed amenities, 25 miles from Redding, which provides even more amenities, restaurants, and outdoor activities, and best of all, we are 25 miles west of Lassen Volcanic National Park - a natural wonderland of volcanic geological features, lakes, mountains, streams, vistas, hiking - a beautiful wild world to explore!
