About this property

Classic charm at Denee family bach

Relax and enjoy our traditional family bach. Located in the middle of Leigh but tucked away in a secluded spot, away from the road and surrounded by bush on two sides. The bach has open-plan kitchen and lounge with sliding doors opening to the deck and views of the bush-clad valley and the sea. Within walking distance of Sawmill Cafe, local shops, Mathesons Bay and Leigh Harbour. A short car trip to the many local attractions including Goat Island Marine Reserve, Pakiri surf beach, Omaha, Tawharanui Regional Park, the Matakana Markets, winetasting at the many local vineyards, and many others.

This loved family bach is ideal for families or couples and unfortunately can not be let for the intention of parties as we do respect our neighbours and would not tolerate excessive noise or behaviour.

I could not have wished for a lovelier place to spend my birthday weekend getaway!The Denee Family Bach truly felt like a cozy sanctuary equipped with everything you might need for a relaxed holiday. The location was perfect, being close enough to shops and larger towns while still offering a welcome remoteness. My parents built this bach in the early 1960's and I have been coming here for holidays all my life. I recently inherited this bach, and my own family of 4 children and increasing grandchildren are continuing to enjoy it regularly. It is a meeting point for the wider family as we gather from all over NZ.
My husband and I live in Auckland where we are teachers.
We plan to retire here one day.

What makes this property unique

Very little has changed about the bach since it was built so you will get a traditional kiwi bach experience. It feels simple but homely. The Lockwood Home type construction has a warm welcoming feel. The kids love the bunk room! The view is amazing - you can sit on the deck and wonder at the sea, sky and bush before you. Listen to and watch the plentiful bird life - tūī, kererū, kaka, pīwakawaka. There are so many beautiful and varied beaches in close proximity - choose according to what you want to do (swim, surf, walk) or according to the wind direction. Then come back into a beautiful cool house after a hot day in the sun. Or take a drive back towards Matakana and visit many craft shops, vineyards and cafés. Matakana Markets are a treat! In the winter, walk along a beach in the cool sea wind then come back to a warm fire.
