Peaceful, comfortable, homely, quirky. Great host very knowledgeable about the history and area. Lovely walks, local eateries. Mabel’s Cottage was a delight.
A special little cottage in an amazing part of Northland.
We're chuffed that we chose this place to spend our holiday. We enjoyed the peaceful harbour location, being so close to the water and the history and cuteness of Mabel's.
A lovely cottage with real character and all the facilities to ensure a comfortable stay. A perfect spot and great to walk out the door for a swim at high tide.
Mabels was the perfect place to spend a long weekend and celebrate my birthday. The cottage was clean and full of everything we could have needed. As Mabel is part of my extend whanau we enjoyed all the little touches to the history of the area and Mabels family. Will definitely be back.
Beautuful bach in a stunning peaceful location. Had everything we needed for our family holiday. Close to shops, pubs, take aways and numerous beaches. Would love to go back.
Loved the cottage. Very cute and everything inside well thought out and we didn't want for anything. Beds really comfortable and the view amazing. Loved every minute of it.
We had such a lovely time in Mangonui and Mabel’s was the best part. The sweetest little cottage with everything we needed and more. The wine and homemade bread were unexpected touches. The history of the home, the location, and the lovely decor all made for our best stay ever.
Mabel's in Mangonui is a delightful waterfront setting and impressive views. Richard is a welcoming host. The cosy cottage is in a prime location near shops and the bay and made for an incredibly enjoyable experience. Overall, it was a highly recommended and enjoyable experience.
Gorgeous little cottage with amazing views! Despite the weather not being the best, we loved Mabel’s. Super cozy with the fire place going. An amazing location to have as your base for the Far North. Great hospitality and communication from Richard. Highly recommend!
A beautiful cottage with such an interesting history. Perfect location for exploring the local area and beyond.
Loved having the cozy fire to come back to after our daytime travels and a comfy bed to rest up.
The fresh bread and wine as a lovely touch. The house really had everything you could need.
We really need to come back as our two nights was just not enough time :)
Richard found us this property as our original booking changed due to unforeseen events. The property was perfect for us and our pooch. We had a fabulous view of the beach to Karikari peninsula. The beach was an easy 3 minute walk. Lots to do in the area. Mangonui was also an easy walk. We had a fabulous stay and loved hearing the waves day and night.
We have admired Mabel's on our visits to Coopers Beach/Mangonui over the years and the cottage is a step back in time with a modern twist. Richard is the perfect host and had made a fresh loaf of bread, brought some wine and then dropped off some fresh fish caught that day with some delicious homegrown potatoes from his garden. We couldn't have asked for a more urbane host.
The cottage is a delight and is decorated in a gorgeous eclectic style of tasteful kiwiana and bright colours. The bed is very comfortable and Richard welcomed our spoodle with a bowl of fresh water.
We both loved reading the history of the cottage and there are some very special figures in NZ history who are associated with its original family owners.
The only tiny thing I'd comment on is the tiny bathroom. The shower is over the bath and if you are taller than 175cm then it can be just a little bit uncomfortable. However, the space is compact and all amenities are there. The kitchen and laundry are well fitted out too. We really wanted for nothing. Thank you Richard for a most pleasurable holiday experience.
