Welcome to ‘Tirohanga’ – Beach house @ Cable Bay. Translated as ‘amazing/panoramic views’, Tirohanga offers a unique holiday experience, in a private location, in one of New Zealand’s most special destinations.

The space
This contemporary beach house cleverly splits its main living area and bedrooms into separate wings, linking them with an artfully-crafted, covered outdoor living space, ideal for relaxing and providing relief from the direct summer sun or sheltered Al Fresco dining, gas BBQ new in 2020. This central deck can also be closed off from the entrance courtyard with a one-of-a-kind sliding screen.

The main living area is open plan with rich timber features and fittings and includes a spacious bathroom with bath, toilet, vanity and free-form wet area shower. Extensive north facing windows open onto a large front deck offering elevated vistas of Doubtless Bay and the surrounding coastline. Books, games, puzzles, sports equipment and children’s toys will also provide a break from the view! Bring your own Nespresso pods and portable speaker and settle in to enjoy the relaxing holiday you deserve.

The bedroom wing offers two generous bedrooms. The master (with en suite) has sea views and access to the deck. The second bedroom has 2 single beds, berths for 2. Freshly laundered bedroom and bathroom fine linen is included in your tariff. For those with an infant, there is a Porticot and a high-chair in the cupboard. (Please bring suitable bedding for the cot.)

Situated between Coopers Beach and Cable Bay at the end of a quiet no exit lane, you are ideally located only a pleasant walk away from Coopers Beach, Cable Bay, Chuck’s Cove and Taumarumaru Reserve. A large number of the Far North’s finest white sand beaches are nearby and Mangonui village and Taipa are only a 5-minute drive away.

Dave was really good with communication, slowed us around the whole property, everything was clear and easy. Yes, very close and accessible to shops if need. All the necessary ones anyway. There is a little park down the road, if you have got small children.

We loved our stay in Cable Bay. David was really welcoming and the whole experience was seamless. The home was well set out for our family and was clean and comfortable. We were a short distance from the local 4 Square and beaches. Highly recommend.

Great location with lovely views. Was a wet weekend so spent a lot of time indoors. Not sure if it was because of the humidity or not but the lovely island in the living space was very tacky to touch. Think it needs a thorough cleaning or possibly re varnishing

Excellent option in the area

The only thing I would make clear on the listing is that the bedrooms and one bathroom are in one house, and the other bathroom is in the living room/kitchen house. It means whomever is sleeping in the en-suite bedroom should be prepared for people from the other room to use the bathroom in the middle of the night, or people should know they have to walk over to the other building. Otherwise it was fantastic and better than advertised.

Beautiful Spot, Great house

We were so delighted when we got to the accommodation, as it was everything and more than we had been expecting. The house is so well designed with the separate areas for living, sleeping and outside entertainment/BBQ. The views are to die for and the location was great. Cable Bay had everything we needed, supermarket, takeaway, petrol etc and even though we were there in the middle of a cyclone we were comfortable and well supplied. The only issues we had were that the TV wasn't working and the bedsheets were too small for the bed. Neither of which made our stay any less enjoyable. Would definitely recommend Tirohanga - Beach House.

Everything ok but not the security camera

Hello, everything was really good, well described, easy to find, good amnesties - we loved the place a lot. We we did not like at all was the security camera in the kitchen, dining and lounge. The camera lights were sometimes on - that’s how we spotted it. That is not compliant with NZ laws - the owner did not inform about it. There is no written hint, not on bookabatch, not in the description in the house, not mentioned by the owner verbally. Please be aware of it. Cheers, Volker

I wish my guests had drawn their concerns to my attention long before now. There is a camera built into one alarm sensor. It can only function when the alarm is activated and is triggered to record when the alarm is activated. It can not record and does not record at any other time. Guests are never, nor will they ever be filmed. It's not possible to capture video without the alarm siren also wailing. The winking light they noticed is the same micro-light that is on most alarm sensors, it indicates movement in the room, not filming. My paranoid guests' fears were completely unfounded.

Great house!

We loved the house. The views are amazing, we even spotted dolphins from the window. The separation between bedrooms and living area was great and meant no-one had to be quiet while others were in bed. We didn't have any issues but David was easy to get in touch with if we did.
