Absolute Waterfront Serenity- with small kitchen - only 1 hour from Auckland
Minutes from the city; miles from anywhere!
If you're looking for a peaceful waterside retreat for a few days from the hustle and bustle, you’ve found it!
This location is Auckland’s best-kept secret - the tranquil beachside area of Clarks Beach/ Waiau Pa, only one hour south of Auckland’s CBD, with the Waiuku River estuary lapping at your door. The serenity is amazing - you'll not want to leave!
• You want to get away from Auckland for the weekend but not drive for hours in crazy traffic?. • Or you need a ‘chill-out’ spot – a ‘do-nothing’ weekend (or week) all by yourself or with your loved one • Maybe you’re like me, a writer, and you hanker for calm and serenity.
Amazing sunsets, wader birds (even rare Royal Spoonbills occasionally), fishing boats heading down the Waiuku River channel, and hardly any people!
The apartment is all set up for you to be either creative or just to blob out and read, snooze, play – or enjoy the delights of the region.
You've got exclusive use of a two-room suite. It comprises a bedroom, a living room (which can double as a bedroom using the comfortable sofa bed), a bathroom (shower over the bath), a separate toilet, and a separate small kitchen/laundry.
Your cooking facilities include a microwave, a bench-top oven, an electric frypan and a small fridge. You've got an excellent range of crockery, cutlery and glassware. And outside is a small BBQ, shared between the two units. It's easy to carry out to the deck if you want to eat out there on a fine evening.
You've got a table in the sitting room for dining or working on your computer, and outside seating on the deck.
There's on-site parking and your own separate access at the back of the main house.
If you're a bigger group, also book my other apartment and I can open the connecting door. That gives you beds for up to six people - 2 couples in the beds and one adult per fold-out sofa bed.
If you want activity, explore Clevedon’s country market, the hikes in the Hunua Ranges, play golf at the popular Clarks Beach course a few minutes away, discover the Awhitu Peninsula & the lighthouse, the black-sand western ocean beach at Kariotahi, get out on the Manukau Harbour & the Waiuku River if you’ve got your own boat …. the choices are many.
Bring your fishing boat and lines. Launch your boat from the ramp beside our driveway or a 24-hour ramp is 2 minutes’ drive away.
Apart from the two accommodation units, the rest of the house is my private home. I'm a writer, travel a lot, and you'll find me a very quiet neighbour. If I'm home. I'm really happy to help with any queries, but I don't interfere with your privacy.
Special conditions: A portable cot and linen, high chair, potty and toys are available if you're travelling with a little one. Just let me know in advance. You'll have to watch a child at high tide - there is no fence by the sea wall.
You'll find books for use while you're here. I just respectfully request that you leave them when you depart.
Quiet time from 10pm, and no parties or events. No smoking inside or in such a way that the smell enters the house. There is a shell ashtray on the deck.

Fantastic stop close enough to Auckland and airport to be convenient but far enough away to be peaceful. Fantastic, peaceful view. Will definitely keep this location on my radar for future trips to New Zealand!
Beautiful and carefully appointed unit. We Loved being right on the waters edge. Quiet location. Robyn has very thoughtfully created this wee haven. Can’t wait to go back and have a little longer there!

Thanks Alex and Jo - it was a real pleasure to have you stay. So many topics we had in common! And thanks for leaving the place so immaculate.
Tranquil view of the water with everything we needed. Robyn provided nice starter items for breakfast-coffee, cereal, milk, sugar-which was so nice coming in after a long travel day.
Very comfortable bed and nice to have laundry facilities. Highly recommend.
Stunning location. 6 steps from the water. . Robyn was so helpful and went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed. The accommodation was the best and most stylishly kitted out we have ever been in.

I chose this property for my final days' stay after a month long first road trip through New Zealand. After having stayed I cannot imagine a better place for the trip's ending.
The host Robyn lives on site but your space feels very private. Her hospitality and thoughtfulness were exceptional.
I tend to prefer to mix in a fair amount of cooking and dining in when traveling. While there is not a full kitchen, it's set up well so that I had everything I required.
Robyn provides a nice selection of cereal, bread, jam, teas, etc.
The feel of staying here is as though you're almost at the end of the world, no cares, no worries!
Direct views from the living area and bedroom are peaceful, spectacular and ever changing. Tide comes in and then recedes daily, revealing the intertidal flats where local birds like the oyster catchers forage. Amazing Sunsets.
There are great places to explore by car from here and the Auckland International airport is an easy drive, perhaps 35 minutes.
Next time I return to New Zealand I'll plan to stay a bit longer.
Thank you Robyn!

About the host
Hosted by Robyn Pearce
This property is my home, but I don't need all the space, so delight in sharing the beautiful serene location with visitors. I'm a full-time writer of both business books and historical fiction. Other interests include classic yacht sailing, walking, travel for research, reading and regular visits to my large family, spread around New Zealand.
Why they chose this property
This area is very special to me. Ancestors on both sides of my family were early settlers in Pukekohe, Tuakau and the Awhitu Peninsula. Many of my holidays as a child were at Grahams Beach, down the Peninsula, so when the chance to buy land almost on the Manukau Harbour came up, it was an easy decision.
The house has been purpose-built for easy beach-side living. I can't imagine living anywhere else!
What makes this property unique
Beat the traffic - be at the beach in about an hour from Auckland's CBD (outside of peak hours!)
