Set on a knoll over looking the wide ocean where the ranges of Mount Taranaki meet the Tasman sea are the Ahu Ahu Beach Villas.
Recycled materials were collected from a number sources including Port Taranaki, Port of Nelson, the old Stratford Hospital and the Koru Hall. Timber was also milled on site and from these treasures the Villas were created. They have an old European feel and have a character all of their own. North facing to make the most of the winter sun, the Villa sits strong and blends into the landscape. The lattice windows break up the expansive view and create a cosy inside space. Alternatively having the windows open creates a fabulous view of the Tasman Sea.
This is one of three family villas. We also have a studio villa with a queen size bed. The four Villas are housed in two unique self contained dwellings.
Oraukawa Lodge is nestled into the hillside with two queen bedrooms. Please enquire for any further booking information.
Despite being built almost entirely of reused materials the modern amenities are all there; free wifi, stereo, TV and DVD. The Villa is fully self contained and comfortable.
The local beach is safe for swimming and a favourite place for many to surf, paddle board, kite surf and wind surf. Beach combing is fruitful, as is the fishing off the coast. Many of the significant gardens in the region are located nearby and we are close to the National Park. The Kaitake Ranges are at the end of Ahu Ahu Road and the North Egmont visitors centre which leads to the summit track is 45 minutes drive.
The local Butler's Reef Pub, Cafes and Village amenities are 5 minutes drive or 30 minute walk. New Plymouth is famous for many attractions, e.g., Womad, Pukekura Park, Govett Brewster Art Gallery, Coastal Walkway, etc., is only 15-20 minutes drive. David and Nuala your hosts love the area they live in and are always keen to share local knowledge to make you trip to Taranaki one to remember. Special conditions: Breakfast provisions can be arranged to be in your Villa on arrival for you to prepare at your leisure. Please discuss with us on booking. Pets are allowed with prior approval.

Enjoyable stay at a lovely property, we experienced some dramatic taranaki weather but was warm and snug in the villa. Our hosts were friendly and accommodation clean with the heating turned on prior to our arrival.

We loved the architecture and the salvage backstory to the place; we and the pup loved the expanse as well. Interior design was perfect. Genial informative hosting - thanks Seth!

Stoked you loved it, an absolute pleasure to host Gloria, Hu & you!
Stayed at the Ahu Ahu Villas 20 + years ago so this was our second trip back. Hasn't really changed at all except for the native plantings being more established and the villas settling into the landscape even more. Love this place. A really great vibe.

Thanks Rachel, it was pleasure to have you back here after so long! Maybe don't leave the next visit for so long :)
The property was as beautiful as it was 20 years ago when we first stayed there. Just enough distance away from the New Plymouth.
Peaceful, healing and a place to slow down.

Thank you for your kind review, it was a pleasure to host the five of you :)
Take care
Such a beautiful location, with a beach out the front that was quite secluded. A very beautiful part of the world!
Seth was great to communicate and made it an enjoyable experience for our family. Thanks Seth! It was also very clean!
We had Christmas here as a family which was great.
We did expect it to be more private than it was, so we had to make sure we kept the kids noise down as there are villas right beside you sharing the outside area/home and the view. So if coming as a family for a longer stay like us, be mindful of this.
The sharing of the bbq with the next door villa made it a bit uncomfortable when organising meal times so if I had any suggestion it would be to have your own bbq.
Thanks again for a special stay.
My husband and our two labradoodles had a very enjoyable stay at the villa. The beach was awesome and Ahu Ahu villas is a must return destination ! Loved it.
Fantastic location, great building, crazy deep grass that felt fab on bare feet, fab hosts what more can we say very highly recommended and will be back for another visit Thanks for having us Steve and Kay

What an amazing place to stay. Gorgeous villas set in a perfect environment. Very well appointed & in a beautiful location.
We took our bikes & cycled around the area as well as exploring the local beaches & shipwrecks on foot.
The villas are superbly spacious & well equipped & the outdoor area is just perfect for a lazy afternoon gin & tonic & bbq.
Pleasantly surprised with a little gift on arrival & felt well looked after.
Thank you xx

Loved the location but the lack of basics like washing machine, dishwasher etc reduced enjoyment. No attempt was made to text us about an afternoon/evening power outage.

Kia ora Pauline, thank you for your feedback. Glad you loved the location, though sorry to hear about your dissatisfaction with the simple lay out of our seaside villas. As noted in the compendium, we are happy to put loads of washing through our laundry facilities onsite.. apologies if this was not clear for you. A dish washing machine we have never deemed necessary but I can understand when you're staying for multiple days how this could become a burden. It was my understanding that David touched base about the power outage in the morning and Nuala followed up with a note left at your door later in the day, as you were out we she came to pass on the information.. in hindsight, we should have text to let you know so you could have dined out in New Plymouth.. the wind that day was some of the most severe I have witnessed! All-in-all I hope you had a lovely time in Taranaki. We enjoyed hosting you all & your beautiful dogs.
Take care & maybe we'll meet again in the future.
Kindly,
Seth
We needed an escape from the hustle of life and we got it! Stunning views, comfy villa with everything we needed, gorgeous grounds, Nuala and David were super friendly and a short walk to the beach 😊. Thanks so much for letting us bring our pups too! We can't wait to come back.
