About this property
Architecturally designed bach in a quiet cul de sac overlooking a bush reserve
Onemana is a small beach resort with lots of bush, birds and secluded spots. Our Nahoon Bach (sleeps 7) was designed by owner Paul (wannabe architect) with a vision of it being a unique beach abode rather than a suburban home. The living area is a two story void surrounded by double story windows making it light and airy with beautiful bush and sea views. All windows can slide open on hot summer days giving it a "tent-like" feel. Its curved corrugated iron roof (inside and out - insulated) and structure is reminiscent of the iconic Kiwi barn. Oneama has a beautiful white sand surf beach - although sometimes the sea is more is like a peaceful lake. There are lots of great bush walks to remote neighbouring beaches. If you want a bit more action, Whangamata is only 10 minutes drive away. Other Coromandel attractions like Hot Water Beach and Cathedral Cove are an hour's drive away. Onemana has free tennis courts if you can drag yourself away from the deck where you could sit for hours watching the Tuis and enjoying their songs from the bottle brush and Kauri or admire the Kingfisher sitting in the Punga. At night you can hear the Morepork calling and the crashing of the surf (when it's up). It's an idyllic retreat from city life. In winter there's a roaring log fire to add to the ambience and comfort. The house has all the mod cons and is furnished in an eclectic mix of Kiwi and African design and art. Smoking outside only. Downstairs suitable for toddlers and wheelchairs. Enclosed/gated deck safe for toddlers and young children.
Extras: Cleaning (Required, NZ$100 per stay)

About the host
Hosted by jiller832
Paul (owner) always dreamed of designing his own bach. He wanted it to be very different from his city home and reminiscent of a barn that opens up to the elements. The materials of plywood and corrugated iron and cedar lend itself to this vision. The double story glass windows invite the outside in and the ability to open all the windows and doors in summer creates a tent like experience. Paul's love of art and design and his love of Africa and NZ is reflected in the eclectic decor. This is not a bach for those who love beige or wall to wall carpets. This is for those who want a Kiwi bach experience - a retreat from all that is city (with a few mod cons thrown in!) The main bedroom upstairs has a void to give it views across the lounge to the sea. The second upstairs bedroom also is open to the stairwell. So if private and secluded sleeping accommodation is important to you, choose the downstairs room or find a different bach (see photos of bedrooms).
Why they chose this property
We chose Onemana as the place to build our holiday home because we both lived near and loved a surf beach called Nahoon in East London, South Africa. Our bach is named after this beach and offers us a similar experience of a white sand surf beach, long summer days, lots of bush and birds and walks and family and friends - all the good things in life!
What makes this property unique
Onemana cafe is great for breakfasts and more, Whangamata is 10 mins drive away for all your needs.
