Thank you for your review, we are glad you enjoyed the house and that you had a great family holiday, we would welcome you back anytime 😊
I had a great stay there with my girls.
The house is really warm with the fire and heat transfer system.
It was safe for the girls to play around inside and out.
Definitely will stay there again.
We loved staying at the Barracks, it had everything we needed and more than we expected, and was an excellent base for the Bike Trails. The mountain view was exceptional and the place was so comfortable when the rain set in and we could lounge about reading. Thank you Janet for sharing your Bach with us, we will be back.
Very happy with this accommodation for our short family ski getaway during the school hols. Property was spacious, warm and had everything we needed. Access was easy and communication with the manager was second-to-none. Extremely good value, and highly recommended for a group/family who don't mind being a short drive out of the thick of things in Ohakune.
One star dropped for cleanliness only due to the previous tenants not quite leaving it to the requested standard, but nothing we couldn't immediately rectify ourselves.

Thanks so much for the review, cleanliness is always hard as we dont live locally it's hard to check property after every guest, we rely on them complying with booking guidelines. Your communication was great too and were hoping we will be able to accommodate you in the future.
Beautiful little place with such a comforting home feel. The lounge was a cozy hangout spot for us, and the rooms gave nice privacy when we just wanted to chill out alone. A lot of what we needed was provided, including duvets, cleaning supplies and basic kitchen equipment, so this saved us having to bring it which is great.
The host was so gracious when we had a last minute change of dates and her communication was amazing.
We loved how quiet the area was if anyone is looking to get away from the noise of their own city.
We’d love to stay longer next time and explore the area more!
Ps. The DVD collection is on the shelf behind the TV. Which we didn’t discover until we were leaving 😅
The view from this property is absolutely stunning – waking up to the mountain scenery was a real treat. The location is also good, offering a peaceful and scenic setting. The fireplace added a cozy touch, and there were plenty of warm blankets to keep us comfortable during the colder nights. We also appreciated the generous supply of firewood and kindling. However, the property does need attention in several areas. The outdoor space was overgrown, with long grass around the driveway and untrimmed shrubs. Inside, we were disappointed by the overall cleanliness. Most of the kitchenware was sticky which is usually the case when dishes haven't been washed for a while. We had to wash them before use, and we found expired pantry items – including soy sauce from 2022. The tea bags provided had a foul taste, possibly from being stored in the pantry for too long. The bathroom vanity was dirty as well. Dust was thick around certain areas (especially near the DVD player), and cobwebs were visible in multiple places. There was also no light in the washhouse, and the bedside lamp in one of the bedrooms didn’t work. While guests are expected to tidy up, it seems the property isn’t being thoroughly inspected or cleaned between stays. The beds are quite basic but serviceable. With better maintenance and more consistent cleaning, this could be a lovely place to stay.
