We had a wonderful stay at Fig Tree Cottage and appreciated the privacy. It was a perfect base to kayak in the Kaipara Harbour and Lake Rototoa. It was very dark and quiet. We could see the stars!! Our hosts are lovely people and we learned about the local area. One day we will return and stay longer.
Had the absolute best stay here. Highly recommend to anyone wanting a break from the business of life. A massive property with lots of exploring and the place was really comfortable with everything needed.
Very well-presented and surprisingly spacious cute cottage, great place to forget the rest of the world and read books. Utterly relaxing and the views on the walks, right across the harbour, are impressive.
We loved our stay at Fig Tree cottage. Stunning views, lovely hosts, great walks, fun relaxing by the fire. Everything we needed. Thoroughly recommend!
The cottage was very comfortable with excellent beds everything you required for cooking. Wild walks with plenty of bird life. Lovely views . We all enjoyed the stay and would return again . Hilary Peter Archie shropshire England.
Really enjoyed our break there, cosy and warm with the fire going (bit smoky to start with but worth it once it's roaring), and the walk along the South Head beach is superb. Not another soul for kilometers.
A stunning, isolated location in a heavenly part of the Kaipara, very unique. The historic cottage was set up with all amenities, fresh with flowers, warm, comfortable a perfect place to escape the 24/7 hum .....& reset!Sharon and Neil were warm and helpful, salt of the earth.Just lovely, thank you for letting us share your piece of paradise.
No higher praise than to say that we'd love to go back some time. Even though it rained (almost) all the time, we got in a couple of secluded walks and enjoyed the quintessential Kiwi bach, delightfully decorated. Then there was the smoked fish passed across the fence for dinner...!

A perfect weekend getaway from Auckland, remote yet not far. Located at the extreme tip of the headland makes for a dramatic setting and views, with the sea below excellent for swimming and the surreal sandy landscape is very memorable. The cottage is clean, cosy and full of character and situated in an idyllic garden. Sharon were friendly, showed us the ropes and left us alone.
The cottage is well equipped and comfortable, and we were made to feel very welcome. Fantastic to be able to walk down the inlet to Papakanui Spit - this isolated place is well worth a visit.
Cute little cottage placed at the end of South Head on a working farm. Amazing views from the walks along the ridge. Family friendly and with great hosts. Cottage is well appointed and has a nice nostalgic charm to it.
We wanted to get away from the busy Auckland life, and this was perfect! Great views, nice walks, decent size cottage and good outdoor area. The little things like fresh flowers on the bedside tables and fresh herbs in the kitchen made it an ideal relaxing weekend that we were hoping for. Highly recommend for people who want to get away from it all and be 'in the middle of nowhere' for a while!
